From RADAR magazine’s August feature, “Green Fakers: Why eco-hypocrisy mattersâ€:

“Why should anyone bother to carpool when Barbara Streisand requires her own convoy? Or forgo A/C for a fan when John Edwards is chilling in the largest house in his county?”

And from a January Los Angeles Times feature about socially “irresponsible†investments held by the do-gooder Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation:

“[T]he Gates Foundation has holdings in many companies that have failed tests of social responsibility because of environmental lapses, employment discrimination, disregard for worker rights, or unethical practices … hundreds of Gates Foundation investments — totaling at least $8.7 billion, or 41% of its assets, not including U.S. and foreign government securities — have been in companies that countered the foundation’s charitable goals or socially concerned philosophy.”

Do As We Say, Not As We Eat

Cartoon

The New York Post reports that just a few steps from the offices of Mayor Bloomberg, who recently banned trans-fat-laden food from restaurants, New Yorkers can readily find the stuff in vending machines:

“Even the Department of Health’s building at 125 Worth St. serves up trans-fat snacks at the lobby newsstand. More fattening Grandma’s cookies — the soft oatmeal-raisin cookies have 2 grams and the peanut-butter sandwich cremes have 5 grams — were offered, along with the typical array of belt-busting goodies.”

Is this an argument for Bloomberg and his food czar Thomas Frieden to crack down on vending machines? No. It’s an argument for bureaucrats to look both ways before doing something as silly as banning foods.
