London Limey policeman Meredydd Hughes, the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police and formerly the head of roads policing for the Association of Chief Police Officers — i.e., a seriously glorified traffic cop — has been convicted of driving 90 mph in a 60 zone. Here’s the best part:
Hughes appeared in a DVD titled “How to avoid speeding fines and points legally” in which he backed the use of cameras and firm action against speeding motorists.
In a clip made available by the DVD’s producers, Hughes says: “Speed limits in a democracy are set for a purpose and we are expected to abide by the law. You can’t pick and choose which laws you want to abide by.”
Good thing for his wife that he wasn’t on the vice squad! Now Hughes has been demoted and is banned from driving for 6 weeks. That must be pretty humiliating, going from the top traffic cop in the city to taking the bus to work. They’ve got some pretty cool buses over there, at least. And it’ll help him keep his vow to continue his campaign against speeding and dangerous driving!

How is the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police a “London policeman”?
You’re right, he’s a Seattle janitor.
What a witty comeback. Now, back to the point: shouldn’t a āLondon policemanā have something to do with, you know, London?
“What a witty comeback.”
I know!
