UPDATE: Eva Mendes Doesn’t Wear Fur, Except When She Does

Follow-up to “Eva Mendes Fakes It”:

Kudos to CelebSlam for digging into the fashion habits of PETA spokes-chica Eva “I’d rather go naked than wear fur” Mendes.

Here she is in We Own the Night — wearing fur.

And leaving a hotel — wearing fur.

And on a movie-premiere red carpet — wearing fur.

And at a benefit for the Metropolitan Museums Costume Institute — wearing fur.

And at a GQ party — wearing fur.

Quips CelebSlam:

So besides in movies; leaving hotels; at movie premieres, benefit galas, and parties; Eva Mendes would rather go naked than wear fur.

I have an uncle who used to go vegetarian for a few weeks each year, just to draw attention to himself. Nobody took him seriously either.

Yes, Yes, Yes, someone has seen the same pictures I have. I sent them an email to alert them to the pictuers. Thank you for putting this where people can see that Most stars use these organizations to make them look better in the eys of the public. I am a long time animal protector and I really would rather go naked than wear fur, I would walk down the main street naked to show my support for organizations that protect the rights of animals. I do not like “Posers” to get attention because other stars are doing it. Get some real people to pose naked, not stars, us real ordinary animal lovers. Heck I would do it, and I know there are many others who would, it could be a group picture of just plain ordinary folks who love the animal kindom so much we would bear it all for them.

Again, thank you for exposing the deceivers and giving kudos to those who are sincere.

Can you all somehow tell if that is real fur, as opposed to fake fur? If so, how? If not, don’t you think that we’re being pretty damning of someone trying to good without much evidence?

    Just saying. . .

Eva Mendez naked underneath a fur coat — is that the hottest thing?

    Hawt.

  4. 4 gigi Dec 9th, 2007 at 9:36 am

how do you know it’s not fake? i mean, LOOK at it.

  5. 5 Oh please Dec 9th, 2007 at 5:19 pm

The “fur” on the first, second and third picture look fake. Unless you have pictures of her buying a fur coat than you can say she’s a hypocrite. You can’t just post a couple of pictures and claim it’s real fur she wearing. It takes a little more than that to prove a point.

  6. 6 Farnsworth Dec 9th, 2007 at 5:31 pm

Errr……dude? She’s wearing *fake* fur to show that killing animals isn’t necessary in order to look all……furry…..n’stuff.

(Seriously, she’s a friend of a friend and goes out of her way to show y’all just how good the fakes have gotten, and yeah, they’re awesome).

  7. 7 mark Dec 9th, 2007 at 5:43 pm

As others have said, did you bother to verify that it’s real fur and not a synthetic? Come on. There’s a ton of realistic looking fake fur apparel and home goods (pillows, throws, etc.).

  8. 8 The Oversneer Dec 9th, 2007 at 9:37 pm

OK — Here’s the deal, folks. This weekend I checked with four different Hollywood stylists, two of whom have worked for Eva Mendes. (A stylist is someone who selects wardrobe, hair, and makeup for a star.) The two who worked for her both told me that they had personally dressed Mendes in fur. Real fur. The other two both said that Mendes had a reputation for being an “easy” dresser — meaning someone who had no objections to anything the stylist wanted her to wear.

The photos of Mendes were all published on major image wires, along with descriptions of “who” she was wearing (i.e., what designer’s creations). I’ll do my best to reachout to those designers’ people to see if we can get iron-clad confirmation.

I’m doing to best I can, but so far there’s some good evidence that Mendes wears fur — and no evidence that she prefers “faux.”

Wow — you mean celebrities manipulate the press (including the fashion press)? I’m shocked. SHOCKED.

  10. 10 Divina Dec 10th, 2007 at 9:14 pm

I cannot speak for the first images but: The light peach colored one is most definitely fake. Then again, the last TWO images are without the SHADOW of a doubt real. You can’t fake this..The double pelt (the top coat of hair, and the fuzzier, softer hair underneath), the shine, the shades, the fact that the hairs do not chunk together. This is real.

Oh and btw…I don’t care about the fact that she wears fur per se. What does bother me is the false activism.

  11. 11 dbizle Dec 14th, 2007 at 4:17 am

PETA is retarded, EVA is hot.. and apparently a hypocrite. I wouldn’t wear fur but sh*t it’s not the biggest f&cking problem in this world (surely our government waging an illegal war and people dying daily in Iraq can’t be more important?!). I wonder how many of the people who get all crazy over fur have at least a couple pairs of leather sneakers. Cows have feelings too =/

  12. 12 GrrrlyX Dec 14th, 2007 at 11:57 pm

God forbid that people -I don’t know- have the right to change their minds! If she WAS infact sporting “real” fur in those shots as you proclaim, this was in the past, yes? Maybe she had some sort of epiphany and altered her position on wearing fur NOW… So you might want to have all yr facts straight before launching some sort of slander campaign… If you find her wearing fur post PETA ad, then you’ll make some serious headlines!
But yeah, let’s just burn her at the stake anyway, right? Damn “flip-flopper!”

  13. 13 jimena Dec 16th, 2007 at 9:00 am

indeed, she said she wore fur in the past as their stylists put those on her and she wasn’t really aware of what that meant; PeTA sent her a letter, and she decided to not wear fur anymore, and act against that.
btw, suede is not the same than fur: “fur” animals are actually being tortured, most of them electrocuted or left totally skinned ALIVE; suede or leather is just a part of the process of cows, where everything (food, clothes, chemicals, etc.) has a use and they don’t suffer. and as omnivorous, we actually need to eat meat, else we should depend on supplements.

  14. 14 Brook Dec 16th, 2007 at 10:40 am

Ack — please don’t turn this into a do human beings need to eat meat or not debate. It is obviously a choice not a requirement. I don’t see the world’s billion vegetarians (hello India) lining up for daily supplements.

If Mendes did where fur, but changed her attitude, then fair play, although PETA should really find people who aren’t recent “converts” so they don’t have to be embarrassed by people changing their minds or being idiots (a la the “vegan” Andre 3000 and his need to use the fur from endangered species). Real people is a great idea.

  15. 15 The Oversneer Dec 16th, 2007 at 12:01 pm

Fair enough. But for me, the larger point isn’t about whether or not Eva Mendes is through wearing fur for good. It’s about whether or not she’s willing to endorse the stated views of the group she’s, well, endorsing right now.

PETA is against leather. Eva wears it. PETA is against meat. Eva eats it. Lather, rinse, repeat.

It’s not like she chose to endorse a single-issue (anti-fur-only) group. She’s on a PETA poster. In my view, we ought to require some sort of intellectually rigorous standards from stars who make such endorsements. PETA is also against medical research using lab rats. Next time Eva Mendes wears an AIDS ribbon on a red carpet, someone ought to call her on it.

  16. 16 mirage Dec 17th, 2007 at 2:04 pm

Who cares what Mendes eats, wears and endorses for? Why are you people so keen about pinning Mendes regarding the fur issue?

Assuming that she indeed wears fur and endorses for PETA, did anybody check if she is indeed wearing the real thing? Assuming further that her stylists “claimed” that she is wearing the real thing, have anybody have proof to substatiate their claims? To me, its merely hearsay, nothing more, nothing less. Not enough to say for sure that she is wearing real fur. Period.

So what if PETA is against using lab rats and Mendes wears an AIDS ribbon on a red carpet? I think human beings are more important than lab rats, don’t you think so?! C’mon people, what is the world coming to? what kind of reasoning is this? Or you just simply hate Mendes?

Anyway, we have more important concerns in this world that worrying about what she wears. She can be a mascot for all I care.

  17. 17 The Oversneer Dec 17th, 2007 at 2:06 pm

    (1) PETA would disagreee with you, and claim that lab rats have the same “rights” as you or me.

    (2) Everybody needs a hobby.

  18. 18 Kary Dec 17th, 2007 at 7:06 pm

Even if it is fake, which is doesnt look it at all, she is still promoting wearing fur. Fake fur shoul dbe banned because it promotes fur as cool period and it isnt. Hypocrite just like Pam and Julia and soooooo many other clebs. They feel they can make rules for general public and bitch when people dont do what they say but they dont feel they have to adhere to the same rules?!

  19. 19 ali Dec 19th, 2007 at 1:12 am

    My love

  20. 20 Justin Dec 20th, 2007 at 2:23 pm

Has anyone else noticed that these pictures were from three years ago?

People change their minds, especially after they see the gnarly “Animal Processing” Tapes that PETA gives to people to watch.

I am sure there are several fur-loving, Meat-eaters out there that would gag if they watch even five minutes of a baby cow being “harvested”.

Doesn’t matter if all of them are fake or not, Although that black one from We Own the Night sure as hell is, cripes, it looks like shag!

  21. 21 Gina Dec 21st, 2007 at 3:14 am

The comment about the AIDS ribbon? Shocking, just shocking. And sad. If I had read this out of context, I would assume it was on some hate-and-homophobia spewing website. Granted, your reasons are different- but doesn’t it give you the warm fuzzies to know that you’re on the same page?

  22. 22 Gina Dec 21st, 2007 at 3:21 am

In all seriousness, though- when you take a step back and appreciate our world from the outside- it’s really all about survival. The reason you and I are here is because of the human species’ intelligence- which is our greatest tool, and only natural weapon (as opposed to all other animals, who have many other natural weapons and/or defenses). Our intelligence is why we don’t die off in winters, and our intelligence is why we won’t be wiped out by AIDS. Animals kill other animals to survive- we’re no different. Life goes on.

FINALLY!!!!!! I was….WAS a long time supporter of PETA for 15 yrs. I quit because of these bogus ads. I don’t donate my money to pay stars salaries!!

I would like to know when these photos were taken, how old are they?
