“Two Americas” (One You’re Married to, and One You Knock Up)

edwards-sleeper-cover.jpgJessica Alba, Jamie Lynn Spears, and Christina Aguilera aren’t the only famous pregnant women. There’s also Rielle Hunter.

Who?

She’s not famous yet, but give her a few hours. Today’s National Enquirer is about to hit the supermarket checkout racks.

Rielle Hunter, formerly named Lisa Druck (don’t ask … I don’t know), is the alleged mistress of presidential candidate John Edwards. The Enquirer story also says Hunter is pregnant with Edwards’ child. And in hiding.

Which kinds makes me flash back to August, when Good Morning America went all gaga over how Edwards and his wife renewed their wedding vows after her breast cancer diagnosis. And how People magazine just happened to have photos of this really intimate backyard ceremony. From the August 9 GMA:

DIANE SAWYER: Let’s turn now to our ‘Picture of the Morning.” And they are new pictures and David Muir is bringing them to us. You’ve been covering the Edwards campaign.

edwards-renew-vows.jpgDAVID MUIR: Yeah. And this is an incredibly personal photograph that we’ve now gotten a chance to see. It’s the renewal of the vows in the backyard in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The former senator and his wife Elizabeth there, with their children, Kate and the two little ones, Emma Claire and Jack. And apparently, this was an idea that they decided to do while they were back at the doctor’s office in the spring when they suspected that the cancer had come back for Elizabeth. John Edwards asking her, turning to her in the doctor’s office and saying, ‘Will you marry me again?” And Elizabeth actually told him, she said, she asked back, ‘Will you take another 30 years?” And he said, ‘Absolutely.”

Awww…. That’s sweet. Except that John was apparently making a baby with someone else around the same time he renewed his “I Do.”

His campaign platform book (see page 61) says that in an Edwards presidency, the government would “Require fathers to support their children, increase child support collection, and help fathers find work.”

All three of which appear just a bit ironic now.

Bonus points: BigHeadDC reports that Hunter met Edwards after the campaign hired her to shoot a “softer side of the candidate” promotional video.

SKANK SLUT! AND UGLY TO BOOT! HE IS A SLEAZY BASTARD!

  2. 2 MJ Jan 10th, 2008 at 12:50 am

How do you even know this is TRUE??? Honestly!

  3. 3 Bill stamps Jan 10th, 2008 at 7:22 am

DNA will tell. Or is this a Karl Rove “Swift Baby” scheme?

    Bill

  4. 4 Cooltruth Jan 11th, 2008 at 7:03 am

Wonder if the baby will be born before the November election? Then they could do a DNA test to see if John Edwards is the father or not. Does Rielle say that Edwards is the father? On the bright side: At least this misbehavior didn’t happen in the Oval Office!

He is the only candidate to beat every single Republican in the race, not Hillary, not Obama in the polls so I kind of think this is a swift boating.

If you believe this Enquirer story, do you also believe the one about Bushie and Condi getting it on, and laura already not living in the white house, but instead bunking at a hotel across the street?
It is the ENQUIRER folks. I would not believe a thing they printed unless it could be vetted by a panel of independent forensic experts and a platoon of private investigators, as well as a grand jury investigation.
Let’s get real. Do not be so gullible. Speaking of infidelity, how about that Rudy, huh? The only thrice married, cross dressing, serial adulterer ever to run for president.

  7. 7 The Oversneer Jan 11th, 2008 at 9:59 am

You’re probably right. They’re all deceivers. Every last one of them. That’s why we’re here :-)

  8. 8 Simon Scowl Jan 11th, 2008 at 12:25 pm

I agree that the Enquirer isn’t the most trusted name in news, but they have broken stories before. They scooped everybody on Jamie Lynn Spears’ pregnancy, for example. Monica’s blue dress? The Enquirer. When it comes to sleaze, they know their business.

A few years back, Jack Shafer at Slate took a look at their track record (click here). You might be surprised.

What? A former malpractice attorney who made millions suing obstetricians before going to Congress, then running for President LYING and having an EXTRAMARITAL RELATIONSHIP?
No, no—it’s impossible to believe that a politican/slip ‘n fall lawyer could do such a thing. Next you’ll be telling us that Hillary is crafty and manipulative, or some such nonsense…

The people who believe trash like this are the painfully ignorant, angry-white-man hillbillys that are the mainstay of today’s republican party. They’re the people who believe the Clintons killed Vince Foster, that John Kerry shot himself to get a purple heart and that Barack Obama is a radical muslim. They are people who don’t read and get their information from Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. They are stupid and refuse to see the truth even when it’s laid in front of them.

Thank you for providing a voice of calm.

  12. 12 KNAB Jan 12th, 2008 at 6:53 am

This is immensely entertaining! Thank you for the hysterical comments lefties. Keep ‘em coming!

  13. 13 Parker Jan 12th, 2008 at 6:55 am

And when Hillary’s boy in the White House was found with the FBI files of Republican enemies - that was a Right-wing conspiracy (RWC).

And when Bill said the didn’t have sexual relations “with that woman,” that was a RWC.

And when Kerry repeatedly accuses our soldiers of being terrorists and marauding barbarians - that’s a RWC.

And when Berger steals lots of classified documents and destroys them (stealing from history the truth of Clinton’s fumbling the chase to get Bin Laden) - only to get probation, that’s a RWC.

  14. 14 Big Ed Jan 13th, 2008 at 7:47 pm

    Surefoot,
It isn’t white men (hillbillies) that reads this trash at the check out counter line. It is you fat, lazy, overfed housewives who buy those true trash tabloids during runs to the store for more junk food between soap operas and Oprah. The same ones that believed Bill didn’t have an affair because he wagged his nasty, boney ole finger in our faces and said she didn’t. Then when he was found out to be a world class liar and cheat, you all defended him by then trying to claim it was between him and his shrew of a wife. You need to read what you write before posting it. You sound like an imbecile. The liberal loonies in this country must be really desperate.

  15. 15 HUGH Jan 14th, 2008 at 10:11 am

SUREFOOT: Your mother should wash your mouth out with soap! Ever heard of “civil discourse”… I guess not! Go back to the “Huffington” site to spew your vitriol, they love it there!

  16. 16 surefoot Jan 14th, 2008 at 1:18 pm

Go ahead and defend Georgie boy and his joke of an administration. There have been more scandals and improprieties in his White House than all others combined. No WMD, no White House visitor logs, $9 billion missing in Iraq, outing a CIA agent, no-bid contracts, privatized army, veterans left without benefits or treatment in a patient dump at Walter Reed, injured vets told to return signing bonuses, innocent Iraquis killed when they were to be protected, Blackwater soldiers firing randomly on Iraq citizens and then posting the video on youtube, Abu Ghraib, firing of U.S. attorneys, warrantless wiretaps, “heck of a job, Brownie”, K Street lobbyists, Medicare drug fiasco, attempted to torpedo the 911 Commission Report, failure to implement the 911 Commission recommendations, failure of the FDA to conduct inspections on imported food, dangerous goods allowed in the U.S. from China, abuse of the Minnesota National Guard, Dubai Ports deal and recently the fabrication of an audio tape regarding the buzzing of a U.S. destroyer by “Iranian” speedboats. The list goes on and on. The only people left defending Bush are the blind loyalists who are are as illiterate as their fearless leader.

  17. 17 JOE Jan 19th, 2008 at 11:03 am

“White-man hillbillies”, is’t that Bill Clinton?

  18. 18 Lo Jan 21st, 2008 at 2:17 pm

So, let’s see if I’m understanding this correctly.

A pregnant woman is accusing a current presidential candidate of fathering her illegitimate child, something that cannot be proven or disproven until after the primary is over.

No, sorry, an anonymous source claims that said woman alleged this in confidence. Both she and the candidate deny it, and another person claims that he is the father.

And the point of this is… what? I don’t even see why this is a story, nor what Edwards’ position on child support payment has to do with it. If he already had a child that was proven his, and he refused to pay, then that would be ironic.

I already didn’t support Edwards, but this just seems desperate, random, and pointless. People are so gullible and reactionary. Anyone who finds affairs in politics to be shocking is a fool, and letting sex between two (not even gay) adults alter your choice in government is perhaps even more foolish.

  19. 19 Simon Scowl Jan 22nd, 2008 at 5:28 am

The “other person” worked for the Edwards campaign right up until the time Hunter moved from New Jersey to North Carolina. Where she’s living in a very expensive house paid for by this “other person,” in the same neighborhood with this “other person” and his family. The wife of this “other person” should be considered for sainthood.

  20. 20 Liberty Lover Jan 29th, 2008 at 1:26 am

You guys need to stop bickering and get behind the only candidate that is scandal free and will restore the constitution. The only candidate that is not a CFR or AIPAC shill. That is Ron Paul!!!!!

  21. 21 Simon Scowl Jan 29th, 2008 at 1:42 am

    Yes. Scandal free.

  22. 22 Pirate News TV Jan 30th, 2008 at 7:20 pm

Edwards quit today. This why you should vote for Ron Paul.

  23. 23 lynx Feb 2nd, 2008 at 6:19 am

1 - the sources on this are hardly credible, but even if it’s true (which I doubt) so what? how the hell is it anyone else’s business if johnny boy gets nasty on the side? besides, dude isn’t even running any more. this is retarded. [Please see the date on this post. -- SS]

2 - to all the ron paul groupies: you can support your far-right wackjob candidate who’s publically admitted he takes money from neo-nazis and other white supremacists if you want, but as far as I can see that doesn’t exactly sound like the kind of guy who’s qualified to “clean up” politics. not that it’s even possible to clean up politics.

3 - voting and elections are a puppet show intended to distract gullible people and provide a false sense of choice. the people with the real power in this country (and the world) don’t run for office, they sit in corporate boardrooms and write the checks and call the favors on the people who run for office. which is why for the last several elections the 10 biggest contributers to both the democrats and republicans have been the same 10 corporations. you’re getting played people. if voting could change anything it would be illegal.

  24. 24 Frazzled Feb 18th, 2008 at 3:55 pm

    Does it really matter anyway??

If HONESTLY were really an issue, all the politicians would be looking for a new job !!!

Even Hillary…who the heck wants to vote for a woman who was a DOORMAT for her cheating lying husband !! I want a president who can at LEAST stand up for themselves (which she never did) she sold herself out for a chance at politics (UGH WOMAN, you give us all a bad rap)
    GET A BACKBONE GIRL !!!

They all make mistakes, JUST LIKE US, half of this stuff is a lie anywway.
    WHO CARES !!!
