“We’re so in America’s back pocket it’s embarrassing.” — Cate Blanchett whining to the Guardian last October about the government of her home country, Australia
What is it about Australian actresses who derive most of their income from American movies that makes them say such stupid, hypocritical things? (See Toni Collette.) They make movies in Australia, right? She should just stay there, if we’re so horrible. I guess she’s infiltrated the American film industry to try to pry Australia apart from the inside. Oh wait, and also it pays lots and lots and lots of money.
On the other hand, she sure is pretty.

Lol, you guys really have to stretch on some of these.
You take a sentence that has absolutely no context, and spin it around
to fit your little hypocrisy theme.
let’s look at the whole quote
“Whoever gets in will have to deal with this climate of paranoia. We’re so in America’s back pocket it’s embarrassing. We have to claim our individualism, but also reconnect to the world in a better way.”
Do you think, just maybe, she was talking about how the US government breathes down Australia’s neck to do everything it wants them to? And maybe, this is about politics, seeing as how that is what she’s talking about. It has nothing to do with the film industry or the money she makes. It has to do with her disagreeing with some of the US government’s actions.
On the other hand, you had to post something, right?
“It has nothing to do with the film industry or the money she makes.”
Oh, of course not…
Ah, yes, another one of our homegrown actresses who suddenly becomes an expert on everything.
Most Aussies find her pretentious and annoying. She’s caused a lot of angst taking over a Sydney theatre company.
What, because she gets paid millions to make a movie, she can suddenly run a theatre company? She’s also an expert on the environment, she’s ‘greened’ her mansion by using low-energy light bulbs and water-saving devices! Isn’t that honorable? Personally, I’d refuse to move my 4-member family into a mansion if the environment meant so much to me, but anyway…
Until actresses can cure cancer, I will keep laughing at their foot-stamping insistence that because they can change their facial expressions on cue, they know how to fix the world. (Are you listening, PETA?)
She annoys the hell out of everybody as far as I can tell - whatever they’re nationality……….we’ve got something in Oz called ‘the tall poppy syndrome’ - she’ll get hers - and we can be vicious
aussies are like that… they take pains to build their own identity at someone else’s expense. after all, coming from a bunch of british convicts is something aussies want to forget about.
