In Other News, Carrot Top Wishes Today’s Stand-Up Comedy Was Smarter

George Clooney says today’s Hollywood is crap:

In a thinly-disguised attack on the modern-day values of Hollywood, the 46-year-old makes clear his belief that computer-generated imagery and visual pyrotechnics are no substitute for a good story.

Clooney places the glory years of cinema firmly between 1964 and 1976 when he says studios produced almost a masterpiece a month and directors like Stanley Kubrick, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Alan J. Pakula and Sidney Lumet pushed new boundaries.

“It’s 12 years and you could find ten films a year that are masterpieces,” the actor told the Radio Times. “They don’t make those films anymore. You couldn’t come near making those films.”

He should know! No word yet on when he plans to give back all the money he made for acting in Ocean’s 11, 12, & 13, Intolerable Cruelty, Spy Kids, Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, The Peacemaker, Batman & Robin, One Fine Day, and of course, Return of the Killer Tomatoes. Not to mention the bucks he got for producing A Scanner Darkly, Rumor Has It…, The Big Empty, The Jacket, and Rock Star. I should probably throw From Dusk Till Dawn in there somewhere, but I’ve always had a soft spot for that entertaining piece of garbage. Point is, George Clooney should just shut up and enjoy his millions.

George Clooneys statement of hollywood movies is the first honest and true thing to come out of a celebrities mouth in years!!! Everytime a celebrity opens his mouth about politics or world events I cringe. It is pretty obvious that most of them are pompous uneducated nitwits who know nothing about the real world. For Mr. Clooney to make this statement is refreshing. Most movies made today are just CGI action with a few talking heads thrown in..The movies of the late 60’s and early 70’s ARE superior over the mindless drivel the studios are producing these days. I realize that Mr Clooney has made alot of commercial movies however he is a great actor even in those roles. Any actor would take the roles offered to him. I think it took alot of courage to make the statement that he did..At least he is not adopting kids from third world countries….

I don’t remember George Clooney being in Spy Kids, wasn’t that Antonio Banderas?

Clooney was their boss or spymaster or whatever.

George is right boy! Superfly, Mother, Jugs, and Speed. Classics! Man Only in the 70’s. It truly was a golden age. Keep speechifyin’ Mr. Clooney! Maybe we can get back to those halcyon days.

Deathrace 2000 or basically anything with David Carradine in it… wow!

Seriously, I agree with Clooney and just because he’s made a fortune out of some crappy movies doesn’t make his opinion invalid. I’ve watched some crappy movies, but I can still identify a good one when I see it.

I was kidding. Death Race 2000 was awesome though. But movies from the 70’s? I would have to say the 40’s or 50’s were much better.

“Point is, George Clooney should just shut up and enjoy his millions.”

    That deserves to be repeated.

Plenty of good movies are being made today, the classics are classics for a reason, they’re old. Some movies get better with time, some don’t, the only way to tell that is … thats right … with time.

“…just because he’s made a fortune out of some crappy movies doesn’t make his opinion invalid.”

Yeah, it’s not like he’s in a position to do something about it.
