PETA Is At It Again

From the NYT City Room blog:

This week, the group is starting an advertising campaign in New York and other cities that advocates dog population control, including one commercial that likens dog breeders to the Ku Klux Klan…

YouTube Preview Image

The second ad shows a dog in a body bag being plopped on the table in front of a family that just bought a dog from a breeder. The implication is that for every purebred dog that is bought, a dog in a shelter somewhere else is euthanized.

I’m no Klan fan, but at least they’ve never operated a death camp. Like the one PETA runs in Norfolk, VA. Well, they call it a “shelter,” but the only shelter that 95% of those animals ever get is the lid of a dumpster. PETA has got a lot of nerve, blaming dog breeders for being responsible for the deaths of animals. Those bunny-huggers have put down more dogs than Howard Stern.

If you eat chicken you’re a Nazi, if you buy a purebred dog you’re a Klansman… Hey PETA, I was thinking of getting a goldfish. Does that mean I’m joining Al-Qaeda? (Probably not. That would be racist!)

    No, it wasn’t.

PETA employees are under indictment for killing, and illegally dumping, adoptable animals themselves. They don’t care about animals, only their own delusions of grandeur.

These people are over funded intelligent people that have a dangerous agenda. As a cattleman they get under my skin. I think they forgot the point of there group and have went way way overboard.

PETA is a bunch of f***ing lunatics. I live in Virginia and was at attendance as a spectator at a dog show where PETA released hundreds of show dogs from their cages while the owners were distracted by another PETA member basically calling them Nazis, slave owners, saying they were going to Hell for selective breeding, etcetera. The dogs, terrified by the strange people and encouraged out back by other PETA terrorists, ran straight into liberation… and four lanes of freeway traffic. I think the final count was something like half a dozen immediate deaths and over 30 animals injured, another half-dozen so badly they had to be put down. There is an intelligent, rational way to make a positive point about what they seem to want to say, but THIS ISN’T IT!

I used to go to fancy rat shows, and really enjoyed showing and viewing until I got wind of the news that PETA was doing the same thing there, and also at cat shows. The law basically does NOTHING to protect these terrified pet owners from these terrorists, only cleans up after the fact and passes out checks as if money were any consolation for losing a beloved pet, since PETA is such a massive entity, with legal teams trained just for these clean-ups. Most of the time, these incidents only get press as a blurb in the most local newspapers! And in the odd case that a lawsuit actually DOES go through, PETA is sitting on millions of charity from well-wishing sheeple who don’t research the lies they’re spoon-fed about “changes” and “animals are our equals”. They’re a bloody terrorist organization, they think they’re above the law, and most people think they’re f***ing saints, kiss their feet for “promoting awareness”, and pour more money into their insane schemes to shock and horrify.

    PETA kills animals.

    Bleh, PeTA.

What a bunch of retards. Eat a hamburger, get a life.

Next time I see a PeTA shirt I’m spraying you with bitter apple. When you treat dogs like humans you give me permission to treat you like a naughty dog.

Their entire campaign proves why they relate so well to animals, they aren’t fit for polite society and clearly people hate them.

I can not stand peta. BUT I think you should go to an animal shelter first too. Why buy a dog for $1500 when a perfectly loyal, happy, mutt is just waiting in some shelter. Get that one for $100. Then give the other 1400 to the shelter.

Playing devil’s advocate, that’s like saying you can’t buy that new Cadillac as long as there are a few dozen perfectly good Nissans on the used-car dealer’s lot. Shame on you for wanting a new car — there are tons of old ones just taking up space in landfills, leaching lead-based paint into the water table.

    I’m just saying …

Besides, some people breed dogs for “show” (not that I understand that world, but it’s no crazier than some of my own hobbies…)

  10. 10 Pastafarian Feb 14th, 2008 at 10:23 pm

    I know, I know. I’m not saying you can’t. I guess that’s just what I would do. I couldn’t really afford a Cadillac anyway.

I’m so glad to see that people are taking note of the fact that PeTA is a scary extremist group. I have shown dogs since I was seven years old, first in 4-H and then at AKC shows. Though I have been fortunate enough to not fall prey to their crimes, I have heard so very many horror stories. As a result, I always take extra precautions to protect myself and my dogs. My pets are my children and I would be beyond devastated if something horrible like this happened to one of them. As a previous poster noted, they have been known to turn dogs loose from shows in the middle of busy cities, which inevitably leads to dead and injured animals. They also have a history of poisoning show dogs in their crates, claiming that “a dead dog is better than a caged dog.” Well hello @$$holes, if you knew anything about dogs in their natural state, you would know that wild dogs live in dens. Thus, once a dog is accustomed to their crate, as most show dogs are, it’s like a safe haven for them. Also, dog shows are hardly “slavery” for dogs, as they claim. Most dogs love dog shows; what dog wouldn’t be thrilled to go hang out with 500-1000 of their buddies, sniff butts and chase tails all day, and be fed some of the best treats a dog could hope for (my dogs get Little Smokies sausages in the ring)? Sure, there are people in any group who will take something good and abuse it, but the vast majority of show dogs are treated BETTER than a lot of children in this country.

Their idea of not confining animals and just letting them all be free may sound great, but it’s not reasonable or realistic. Animals should be treated with dignity and respect, but they are not humans and domestic animals are not able to fed for themselves in the world of today. You wouldn’t turn a class full of pre-schoolers loose to be free and wild on their own without any supervision or external human care. Children would get hurt and/or become ill if abandoned, so how can PeTA expect domestic animals to be able to care for themselves in the city without the same tragic result? That’s just plain UNethical treatment of animals!

People need to know about the reality of these extremists so they will stop pouring money on them. Until idiots like this are gone (possibly never), I will certainly be taking extra care to protect my babies. If anything ever did happen to my dogs at the hands of these people, you can bet I’ll be going to jail for assault too! I would also take advantage of the fact that I work in the legal system and know several attorneys, as I’ll do everything I can to sue the pants off of them and draw public attention to these tragedies. Down with PeTA, up with REAL animal rights.

Despite the obvious lies posted here (those employees were cleared of charges and Branded and Mesic are completely off their rockers–a group with government-recognized non-profit status cannot and would not do things of that nature even if they were ethically capable–oh, let’s see, and wouldn’t we have heard about that on the news/be able to find it in a Google search?), I think it’s hilarious, and good for them for drawing obvious parallels. Those of you supporting dog shows and breeders are completely responsible for the overpopulation problem and have no right to complain about euthanasia. Take a little responsibility for your actions and realize that you’re just as complicit as the breeder’s themselves. And I hope none of you are against stem-cell research because it’s “playing God”…what do you think you’re doing with selective breeding? Come on people.

  13. 13 Anne Apr 8th, 2008 at 9:22 pm

Thanks for the breath of fresh air, hale… you’re the only well-informed person posting on this topic… well, at least Pastafarian shows some glimmer of awareness. the person who compared dogs to a car should have t o work in an animal shelter with high kill rate.

I find the lies that are told about PETA interesting in light of the fact that ample information that refutes the people who try to trash PETA is available. I guess the liars assume people won’t do the research — most of the time, all it takes is a simple Google ssearch to get dicument facts that show the lies for what they are.

And for those of you who have a knee-jerk reaction to PETA, then check out the Humane Society of the United States. They campaign against puppy mills and large-scale breeding. They also stand up for ethical care of farm animals and have very clear facts showing the brutal craziness of the fur industry.

It’s funny how many people resent having to think of the welfare of something other than themselves and thier own immediate whims and needs.

  14. 14 The Oversneer Apr 8th, 2008 at 9:37 pm

Anne — You’re not serious. The Humane Society of the United States is just PETA with a bigger bank account. Run by vegans. Anti-hunting, anti-medical-research, anti-meat, anti-circus, anti-leather, etc.
