Kirstie Alley Bounces Back

Sure, Jenny Craig dropped her like a sack of chicken-wing bones and Twinkies boxes, but don’t count her out just yet. She tells People Magazine:

I had not intended to make this announcement at this time, but after an online PEOPLE magazine article ran last Friday, announcing that I had stepped down as Jenny’s spokesperson, I found myself bombarded with inquiries from the media and fans. So I guess it’s as good of a time as any to announce that I intend to develop and pilot my own weight-loss brand that I hope to launch in 2009.

The weight-loss field is wide open and not immune to new ideas and improved solutions for the fat problems that plague many of us Americans every day. I want to create something new that will help millions of people end the seemingly never ending fatty-roller coaster ride…

I need Kirstie Alley teaching me how to lose weight and keep it off like I need Lindsay Lohan teaching me how to read, write, and hold my liquor. But this should be fun to watch.

Identidad PolĂtica

Jessica Alba in Para Todos magazine last year (via Popcrunch):

“I’ve got cousins galore. Mexicans just spread all their seeds. And the women just pop them out…”

“My grandfather was the only Mexican at his college, the only Hispanic person at work and the only one at the all-white country club. He tried to forget his Mexican roots, because he never wanted his kids to be made to feel different in America. He and my grandmother didn’t speak Spanish to their children. Now, as a third-generation American, I feel as if I have finally cut loose…”

“I had a very American upbringing, I feel American, and I don’t speak Spanish. So, to say that I’m a Latin actress, OK, but it’s not fitting; it would be insincere…”

Una gran cantidad de insincerity comin’ right up! Here’s Alba in next month’s issue of Latina magazine:

On claims that she’s proud to have cut loose from her Mexican roots: “I never said that. Cut loose from what? What the hell are they talking about? Why would I want to cut loose from the only family I know?”

On not learning to speak Spanish as a child: “I wish to God that my dad spoke Spanish to my brother and me, but he didn’t grow up with it.”

On what she wants her baby to look like: “I’m excited for my baby to be brown. I just have to believe the dark gene is going to survive. Cash and I are like, please!”

Now, I could say that I was angered and disappointed by the way she turned her back on her heritage, and I’m glad she finally wised up. Or I could say that she was brave to reject identity politics, asking people to judge her based on her accomplishments (such as they are) instead of her genetics, and it’s pathetic how she’s now bowing to pressure and pandering to the forces of political correctness.

But mainly I just wanted an excuse to post a picture of Jessica Alba in a bikini. Check it out, here’s another one!

Baby’s First Handler

nicole_richie_postpreg.jpgJoel Madden and Nicole Richie aren’t ones to let parenthood get in the way of a good time.

The pair have been hitting the party circuit hard ever since Nicole Richie took all of 20 minutes to lose her baby weight (the photo at right? Taken last weekend), with one source saying:

“It’s almost as if they aren’t parents.”

Which means their newborn daughter, the one-month-old Harlow Winter Kate Madden, has been spending lots of quality time alone with the help.

That foundation they created in honor of baby Harlow should make good on its promise to provide other young parents with everything in the Madden-Richie nursery: a couple bottles of formula in the fridge and a nanny in the east wing.

He Says She Says What He Says

clinton_obama.jpgWah wah wah. Sen. Hillary Clinton is accusing her Democratic rival of plagiarism, claiming that his history of doing so casts doubt on his credibility and suitability as a presidential candidate.

At a fund-raising dinner on Saturday night, Sen. Barack Obama borrowed a few lines once used in a speech by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, one of Sen. Obama’s biggest supporters. Sen. Obama says he used them at Gov. Patrick’s urging and dismissed the allegation as not “too big of a deal.”

Sen. Clinton’s campaign disagrees:

“If you’re asking the public to judge you on your rhetoric and your promises and you’re breaking your promises and lifting your rhetoric, there’s not much else there,” argued Howard Wolfson, Clinton’s communications director.
“His candidacy is fundamentally premised on the strength of his rhetoric and the strength of his promises,” Wolfson said. “So when he is found lifting the rhetoric from another politician, it calls into question the premise of the candidacy.”

However, Sen. Obama’s campaign fired back with times when Sen. Clinton’s speeches have closely mirrored Sen. Obama’s. Example:

BARACK OBAMA (2007): “Fired up! Ready to go” is the catch phrase of Obama’s campaign and has been the close of his campaign speeches for months.
HILLARY CLINTON (January 2008): “We are fired up and we are ready to go because we know America is ready for change and the process starts right here in Iowa.”

What we need is a super slogan that covers everything. It doesn’t even need to make sense. I suggest WE ARE FIRED-UP READINESS FOR THE TIME FOR CHANGING PROGRESS IS NOW!

I Guess She’s Sick of Going Straight to Video

jessica_simpson_doh.jpgWant to have a body like Jessica Simpson’s? Too damn bad.

After getting into great shape for Dukes of Hazzard (as well as this), she starred in an exercise video for Speedfit, a fitness video company. She was paid millions to do it but later declined to give final approval, thus preventing its release.

The company sued her last year for $10-million and since she refuses to settle, they’ve now also sued her dad/manager Joe Simpson.

Says Alex Astilean, Speedfit’s owner:

“They are hurting millions of fat people in America.”

And millions of teenage boys as well, I’d bet.
