The Black Crowes are livid over a negative review of their new album in Maxim magazine.
The band says advance copies of War Paint — which comes out next week — were not sent to the press, so there was no way Maxim could have listened to it before writing that the release “hasn’t left Chris Robinson and the gang much room for growth.” The magazine gave the album two and a half stars.
The Crowes lashed out in a message on their website:
“Maxim’s actions seem to completely lack journalistic integrity and intentionally mislead their readership. When confronted with the fact that they never heard the album they are claiming to ‘review’ in their music section — with a star rating, no less — they attempt to explain that it was an ‘educated guess.’”
Maxim has since sorta kinda vaguely apologized in the way you’d expect from a magazine that named Lindsay Lohan the hottest woman in the world. Of all people. Talk about a lack of self-respect.

They did the same thing to Nas, too. They gave his new album 2.5 stars, and it’s not even done yet. Not sure if it was in the same issue or by the same writer.
Never fear. I’m sure the Black Crowes new album will be successful anyway. There must be a million classic rock stations just waiting to cue up a “new” song from these guys. Probably after a special “Get the Led Out”, or my new fave Pink Floyd after dark.
People ‘read’ Maxim? Next you’re going to tell me people ‘read’ Hustler.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Hustler? Never heard of it.
I’m sure you have, you just never bothered to read the title (or anything else) and just looked at the pretty pictures.
