Material Girl Should Justify Our Love

madonna.jpgMadonna says she may go on tour again this fall but she is so over the songs that made her famous:

“I’m not sure I can sing ‘Holiday’ or ‘Like A Virgin’ ever again,” the singer tells New York’s Z100-FM in an interview scheduled to air Friday. “I just can’t – unless somebody paid me like $30 million or something. [Like if] some Russian guy wants me to come to the wedding he’s going to have to a 17-year-old, you know it.”

First of all, ew. Thanks for the image. But tickets for her last tour were among the highest in showbiz. If I pay $375 to see one of her concerts, you better effing believe she’s going to get out there in a leather tutu or whatever and sing “Like A Prayer” and “Vogue” and everything else off the Immaculate Collection and she’s going to do it graciously.

Who wants to hear her new stuff? Can anyone name three songs since “Ray of Light”?

Name three songs since “Ray of Light”? OK how about 6 TOP TWENTY HITS SINCE “Music”, “Dont Tell Me”, “Beautiful Stranger” “American Pie” “Die Another Day” “Hung Up” and I’m not EVEN a fan!!!

    Of course not.

I’m not a huge fan of Madonna, but I can understand her not wanting to sing those songs anymore. What 50-year-old woman wants to be tied to things she did in her 20s? And wasn’t “Hung Up” a #1 a few years ago?

Oh yeah, I forgot about those. “Die Another Day” felt like a fork in my eye and her “American Pie” cover was completely unnecessary (and actually peaked at #29 on the U.S. Billboard charts, not in the Top Twenty), but I will grant that “Hung Up” is a great song.

But still — does it compare to “Like A Prayer,” perhaps the best song you could ever play at 1 a.m. at a bachelorette party? And “Material Girl” is my standby karaoke pick. I’m just saying, the early stuff is just so superior to anything she’s stolen from ABBA lately.

I totally agree with you. From what I know of her catalog, she peaked with the Like a Prayer album.

    @Phoenix
Music as an album sucked and so did the singles from said album. “Beautiful Stranger”? That’s like giving credit to Lenny Kravitz for “American Woman”. Speaking of covers, there’s “American Pie” which also doesn’t count. “Die Another Day” is good as a song for the movie, it’s not something I’d want to hear on the radio. And Holly and you are wrong, “Hung Up” was trash, as was most of Confessions on the Dance Floor.

If she didn’t want to continue to do the old songs live then she shouldn’t have made them so good. Like she’s done with all her albums since Ray of Light.

I could name them all honey, but lets go just with my favorites:
Music, Mother and Father, Jump, I´m so stupid, Nobody knows me, How high, Push, Amazing, I like them ALL actually. I get your point though

The poor woman has 30 years singing the same songs!

Anyone who would pay $300 to hear all that bulls*** she used to play is a dumb*** anyway. And who are you to say what an artist should play ? Like A Virgin and all of that s*** is for people who don’t care about music anyway. She never did a damn thing worth hearing until Ray Of Light.

Die Another Day, Hung Up, 4 Minutes To Save The World

Music, Don’t Tell Me, Hung Up, Sorry, etc.

I mean, in the US the might not be as successful as she used to be during the 80s, but she’s still the most popular singer around the globe.

However, I think it’s pretty stupid of her to say that she wouldn’t perform “Like a Virgin” anymore, when she just did it on her Confessions Tour (2006). lol.
