He could also make a raspberry sound (which I learned is not a good trick to show a baby who drools a lot). It's totally believable that a 3 month old could make a sound like 'hi.' And yeah, if you put a 3 month old on its stomach it will flail around trying to lift its head up, which might look like it's trying to crawl. It usually takes another 5 or 6 months.
