This may be oversimplifying it and I don't intend to sound like a chauvanist pig, but if you really want to get this size thing right (especially in light of the comment from the lady who is a size 10 but in one brand of pants but had to be cut out of a size 16 in another lol) The easiest thing to do would be to size womens clothes the same as mens clothes. In inches!!! Personally I'm a 38x30 pants and a 18 34-35 shirt. It doesn't matter where I go as long as it's those sizes it will fit. 38" waist, 30" inseam and an 18" neck with a 34-35" sleeve. I realize for women there may be a slight problem with the fact most of you have curves, but I'm sure it would be a hell of a lot easier than the arbitrary size 10, 12, 14 which is never consistent! :)

According to industry sizing standards for clothing, anything from 14-16 and up is "plus sized" (though many companies carry 14s and 16s without calling them plus sized, and teen sizes can include odd numbers like 13 and 15). Therefore, a model who is a size 8 or 10 in the vast majority of her clothes (and I say this with misgivings, since I'm a 10 in one brand of pants and had to be cut out of a 16 in another) does not accurately represent a model correctly fitted to actual plus sized clothing. It's a filthy lie, and it only infuriates we women who want to be honestly represented by companies who claim to market products made just for us. But it's a widely practiced deception and everyone in the industry seems to just accept it, the way Roland Mouret says he makes clothes with a size 14 woman in mind yet still puts them on size 0-4 models for runway shows and photoshoots (and says he makes clothing for "women, not girls" when many of his models are no older than 19), or when Karl Lagerfeld said, "I only make clothing for slender women" when H&M insisted on carrying his special line for them in L and XL as well as S and M sizes.

OH! I can't stand these people!

But she's not bigger than plus-sized models in the modeling industry, who are usually between a 10 and a 14, instead of between a 0 and 2 like mainstream models. I'm not generalizing for nonmodels, but those are the facts for the fashion industry.

saying that size 10 is "plus-sized" is simply false, and here's a straightforward way to prove that: go to a plus-sized clothing store, such as lane bryant or torrid, and they don't carry clothes in 10. size 14 is the smallest they sell, and that's even really small in the plus-sized world. to say that she is bigger THAN OTHER MODELS IN THE MODELING INDUSTRY is more accurate.

who the hell gets to label this woman as 'plus-sized' and why do women put up with that BS (by buying 'designer labels' or whatever - got to be a way to change attitudes with the dollars. I think she looks completely healthy and ravishing. On that note, most of the other girls on the show do not even look like they could hold up to a good ravishing, or have anything to ravish for that matter.

For the record, since there seems to be some confusion on this point: Size 4 is NOT plus size by anyone's standards, including those of the modeling industry. Whitney used to be a size 4, hence the "formerly skinny" in the headline.

However, mainstream models are smaller than a size 4, so she was told to eat up by the show's producers. That's when she gained 20 pounds to become a size 10. Which in the modeling industry is considered plus-size.

The stories should be about how all these skinny "celebrities" are so sickly looking and in dire need of forced pizza milkshake diets.

Why is this a story?? And when the hell has a size 4 been plus-size???
Skinny girls/women are just BLAH.
Girls with curves RULE!!!
I'd much rather have something to sink my teeth into than be knawing on a bone.
Anything under size 7/8 is too skinny.
