Nick Bollea, son of Terry Bollea AKA Hulk Hogan, is currently serving an 8-month term in a Florida jail for the reckless driving that put his friend John Graziano into a permanent coma. And as his phone calls to his mom prove, it’s clearly making him reflect on the behavior that put him there:
Bollea is being kept in a single cell at the Pinellas County Jail because he is one of only two minors serving time in the adult facility. On the phone, he cries often and is comforted by his mother Linda.
Nick: “All you do is sit there and think, and there’s nothing to think about.”
Nothing.
To think about.
Sounds like that visit to Graziano’s bedside made a big impression.

Well, that’s why they call it punishment Nicky-boy, cuz it sucks and it’s not fun. Suggestion: he can think about how much it sucks to be his friend who is in a coma and won’t be finishing his “sentence” in 8 months. It might be a good idea for Mom to bring him some books to read about ethics.
You know what gets me in that ABC transcript is his mom saying, “Prove to everyone you’ve learned your lesson and be more careful.” How about, “Prove to everyone you’ve learned your lesson and never drink and drive dumba$$!” Not “be more careful.”
Oh and daddy’s line of “…You’ve really been somebody to look up to.” WTF? Look up to?! Teachers are people to look up to. Not drunk teenagers that put their friends into a vegetative state.
Tengu, are we a teacher? I know a lot of people that are teachers and they definitely are not people to look up to. I’m not saying that all teachers are NOT people to look up to, but, I just know that had I said “so and so are people to look up to” – teachers wouldn’t have been at the top of my list.
He wasn’t drunk, Tengu. He and his friend were stone sober. That makes this whole situation more or less horrible. I can’t decide which.
Gee, I thought the purpose of incarceration was to reflect on the reason for the incarceration. He’s lucky. If he had gone to trial, the jury would have found him guilty as hell and the judge would have imprisoned him for years. In prison, where the big boys play very roughly.
What a wuss. He and Paris Hilton should form a mutual self-pity group.
Wrong. Please click here.
No Morgan, I’m not a teacher. I’m actually a social worker. I was just using the teacher profession as a positive example since it was the first thing that popped in my head. I should have probably used something like fireman.
This is just pathetic. He got 8 Months to have put a Marine in coma. I don’t think Justice got served here. On the other side, hearing him whine about the whole thing is quite appeasing for my ears.
Damn you, Simon. Why you gotta go and make me look stupid in front of everybody with your fancy “facts” and “truth” and stuff.
I swear, I’ve read 20 stories about this whole thing and never once saw a mention of alcohol. Which, I suppose, puts the kibosh on my theory that I’m college-educated and know things about “comprehension” and “words.” Dangit.
Not only was there alcohol, but there are witnesses to his dad buying it for him and his friends.
Didn’t Bollea also have several tickets/warnings for speeding before this tragedy?
Troll-boy needs to wise up real fast.
Yep, and at least one of the tickets was when his dad was in the car. And both his mom and dad have appeared in street-racing DVDs, talking about how much they love it. This kid got screwed over by Nature and Nurture.
When he turns 18 (end of July, I believe?) dear Nick should be moved to general population. I’m sure he won’t find himself with “nothing to think about” then. This stupid boy has shown no remorse, no concern for what he has done, and no desire to learn. His family has set the examples to live down to, but (thus far) I have to give Nick the prize. He’s made the rest of them look like positive uses for oxygen.
Actually, Tengu, you could’ve very easily used social worker.
I know many, many a-teacher that are out every weekend, drinking, drunk driving, etc. And I know many teachers that I had that either came to school stoned, bought from the high school kids, and now all this stuff comes out in the news about teachers and students and all that. I am not saying I never had a great teacher – I have had a few.
I respect your career as a social worker much more than I respect any of the people that I know that are teachers!
M from Toronto: If Nick get the prize then his sister gets the booby-prize. (All puns are intended.)
Ummm…what happened is a tragedy. His first mistake was in not insisting that his friend have his seat belt fastened. The accident is tragic, it was an accident, but the bottom line is Nick had his seatbelt on and was banged up. His friend did not have his seat belt on and if they had been driving 40 miles an hour and the same accident happened, he would still have had the same impact injuries – because he didn’t have his seatbelt on. I will not let anyone drive with me without their seat belt fastened. No seat belt? No ride. I truly wish for recovery of the friend, and that Nick learns his lesson. I met his dad back in the late 80s when he was in Pittsburgh and he behaved in a gentlemanly manner. For all of you ugly people with ugly comments, I’d like to hope that you get double what his friend is enduring, but I’d be stooping to your slimy, low level.
And as for Nick being drunk, ummm…… who cares, right?
I’m truly sorry Candy, that the comments are ugly, and we are too. I’m sorry that although drunk driving and street racing are crimes, you disagree and consider them accidents. I’m also sorry that the same Hulk Hogan, who behaved in a gentlemanly manner, was just recorded talking to his son in prison (presumably after he returned from sunbathing with the babbling Brooke – Discordia, I bow in your general direction) blaming Mr Graziano for his condition, and I quote “God laid some heavy shit on that kid, I don’t know what he was into.” Recording here:http://www.tmz.com/2008/05/23/hulk-to-victim-you-pissed-off-god/
Mr Hogan was carrying a Bible in court, obviously having not read it. His wrestling persona rested on “I am a real American”, whilst he real American patriot lies in a rehab facility. The Hogans cry to the heavens about the injustice of Nick’s prison stay and the general inconvenience to their lives. In wrestling terms, the Hogan act would be called “a work”, and most of us here aren’t falling for it.
Teachers are human – like everyone else. Teaching the spoiled, entitled kids of today – with their guilty, uninvolved parents with the resources given and the lousy pay – it’s a tough job and not for everyone. After seven years of dealing with BS from students, parents, the school board – I’m out. I’m done. Hopefully this is my last school year. I’d rather do almost anything than teach.
Problem is, many teachers hang in there, even if they should find something else. Therefore, drinking/drug problems may arise (same as firefighters, police, etc…stressful occupations.) I found I was starting to drink more and more to cope with my job, and I felt I had no support. So, one less teacher here.
Wish me luck finding a new job.
Nick my prayers are with ALL involved. I think 8 months is a very small price to pay for the mistake you made. Hopefully you will take advantage of any drug counseling available, and get your act straightened up. Yes, I said drug counseling. It may be legal but alchol STILL a drug.
Now I’m going to speak to you as a parent. After your release, I would urge you to get back into school ASAP. Make something of yourself, so you can be a productive member of society. I think that is something all parents want of their children. SO GO FOR IT! YOU CAN DO IT!
Well, it’s no surprise that he’s run out of things to think about. We knew we weren’t dealing with a Rhodes Scholar here, right?
And I might refrain from making an “ugly” comment had this young man actually attempted to show more remorse for effectively ruining a friend’s life. His one attempt at visiting his friend was pure photo-op and it’s absolutely unfathomable that his family would have actually attempted a smear campaign rather than cop to any responsibility. Maybe if Nick’s family were capable of behaving like civilized human beings in general I’d actually start to give a sh*t about poor, entitled Nick’s EIGHT MONTH stint in prison. Cry me a river.
nick had some booze in his system at the time of the crash, and that was a really bad car crash, not one you see everyday. i remember watching an episode of “hogan knows best” on vh1 and hulk hogan had 5 cars (fricking 5!!) lined up for nick when he was 15. that’s ridiculous, no kid needs that at 15 years old. now look what happened.. i also listened to some of the taped phono convos between nick and his parents on TMZ.com and what i heard was terrible. that family is such a POS, and they’ll get what’s coming to them.
This whole thing sucks all the way around. I know what most people think of street racing but… My fiance and I along with numerous friends have been street racing for years. We do however do it safely atleast for the public. We live in a place where there are tons of back roads and people are in bed by 9pm. We have scouts at both ends of the place we decide on to let us know about any traffic or people on radios in our cars so we can avoid situations that involve unwilling participants. We have our cars fitted with roll cages, extinguishers, and all sorts of safety gear. We do have some cars that arent but those are our choices. We only let people who can drive quite well race, and yes we do know bad stuff can happen (it hasn’t yet). But in our races we do it in as safe a way as possible. On way out in the boonies backroads that we live near and know the traffic patterns of. Never during the day, and not in populated areas and as I said before we have radios and scouts who let us know if a car is has entered the road far enough ahead to where we can stop and prevent anything from happening to the lives of innocent people and ourselves. I am a marine myself and mother of two. I have a big heart and I hate that one of my fellow comrades got hurt by some dumb kid who decided to do that with no ‘real’ experience and drunk (never heard that he was drunk myself, the guy up top had facts though) in a crowded area in the middle of a city. I know what some may think of street racing but not all of us are bad and we (I and my friends at least) understand the danger to ourselves. We know the risks. Thanks for hearing me out.
Simon: He wasn’t drunk. He had some alcohol in his system, but was not impaired. He is charged with the underage drinking law, which is .02 blood alcohol. That’s really really low. You can have .02 blood alcohol after one beer for a couple of hours. Had he had .08 in his system, he would have been charged with a DUI.
That said, 8 months seems about right.
I would like to stand up for myself as a Pittsburgher.
We are not all as dumb as Candy, nor do we all have stripper-pole names.
He’s 17, and he wasn’t tested until 2 hours later.
8 years ago I lived down the street in Clearwater, FL from Terry and Linda (Hulk and his wife) and watched his kid Nick growing up. Most obnoxious, pompous, trouble maker I ever saw. He would vandalize cars parked at the gym at Morton Plant hospital a few blocks away and harrass people leaving the gym. He would harass diners on the patio beachside at Frenchy’s on Clearwater beach. Throw food at people run over and shake their tables and the Hulkster and Linda wouldn’t say a word. I used to tell my GF “that kid’s gonna wind up in jail” …well
The problem is this kids dad is a “celebrity” here in Clearwater. He and the Scientologists can do anything they want and get away with it. The city council, police department, and the courts here in Clearwater are all bought and paid for. If you or I had been driving and had an accident like this, we’d be doing a lot more than eight months in county jail. The problem is this country is star struck, and there is no real justice for average citizens.
When I was a kid, back in the dark ages if I had put a friend of mine into a permenant vegetative state as the result of a car accident I was responsible for it wouldn’t make a difference in my eyes or my family’s about whether I had drank a half a can of beer or was completely lit or had nothing to drink at all. Seems to me the whole focus of this thing, is this kid not genuinely owning up to what he has done, and the consequences of his choices that day have destroyed the life of that “so called” friend of his. I say so called cuz a real friend would accept his punishment, and would do everything in his power to show John Graziano and John Graziano’s family that this situation was wrong, inexcusable, and that they would do anything and everything for John Graziano and his family to help them through this terrible time they will be facing for the rest of their lives. Lastly guys, I don’t necessarily think that teaching our kid’s to take responsiblity for their mistakes is a “normal person vs. rich celebrity person” issue. I think it’s a human issue. Just to say this sense of entitlement and immaturity that Nick Bollea appears to have was fostered by his being the child of a “so called” celebrity, (what’s Hulk Hogan really done for the good of mankind), is missing the mark. The influence of the media and programs like Cribs on MTV or my Super Sweet 16 Party, have done more to inflate the sense of entitlement in many American youth than has their coming from privilidged backgrounds like Nick Bollea or other celebrity children.
