If you read the whole thing in context, she is discussing eating consciously and what the author of the book says. Oprah is pretty upfront that she is doing this because she is trying to learn a new way of being. She has also, in the past, been pretty up front that, while she likes being altruistic, she also loves 1,000,000 thread count sheets and fancy things that she can afford because she is Oprah. Not that Oprah doesn’t annoy me with her sanctimonious crap but it seems her intentions are being misconstrued.
“I thought it meant not allowing yourself to eat emotionally and filling the void of anxiety with food, as I’ve struggled with for years. I thought it meant taking your time, making healthy choices and chewing slowly—being conscious of every bite and not scarfing down a meal and then thinking about the next one.

That is one level of consciousness. But what she (this is Kathy Freston, the author) talks about in her book is a higher level. She speaks of “spiritual integrity.” How can you say you’re trying to spiritually evolve, without even a thought about what happens to the animals whose lives are sacrificed in the name of gluttony?

So this 21-day cleanse gives me a chance to think about it differently and see what my attachments are to certain kinds of foods—and what I’m willing to do to change.

Don’t know if I’m going to feel better or worse, but I’m willing to try to see if my body at least feels differently.”

In other words, this is more about Oprah’s dysfunctional relationship with food, something that millions of other women struggle with. So, they identify with Oprah regardless of the fact that she can buy and sell their asses over and over and over again.

Interesting. It appears that she only got to Tuesday of week 1 on her blog. Does this mean she couldn’t hack it, got too lazy to continue, or pronounced the publicity stunt failed and gave up?

Just to make it easier to digest my point, SoSo, I’ll repost what Oprah herself wrote on her blog:

So one month, it’s a celebration of high-end leather goods, and just a few months later, it’s condemning the use of animals for gluttonous purposes. Oprah has so many bandwagons it’s not that hard to catch her falling off one.

I am not a fan of Oprah, but I am on her corner on this one. This article was poorly written. Obviously by a hater.

What is the deal with the shoes? Isn’t it recently that she announced that she was going vegan? Didn’t the shoes/Louboutins happen before that? WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL??? And please anyone, show me where she said she was doing this for the animals. Oprah has never really been a tree hugger. She announced she was doing this as a master cleanse, for her own body.

Quit wasting people’s time, Holly.

oprah winfrey is the ultimate example of ego driven indulgence gone berserk. What a horrible testament to our society that she has so many “admirers.” (That’s a big O to all you little people out in internet land)

I have to agree that she is doing this to see what effect it has on HER, not to save the animals. It’s another egocentric move, not an ethical or environmental one.
