He talks about it all in his documentary Go Further, which I recommend.

Hemp activism doesn’t automatically make him a stoner.

What exactly is the definition of “fasting”?

From wikipedia:

Fasting is primarily the act of willingly abstaining from some or all food, drink, or both, for a period of time. Concerning that from which one fasts, and the period of fasting, a fast may be total or partial. Fasting practices may preclude sexual activity as well as food, in addition to refraining from eating certain types or groups of foods; for example, one might refrain from eating meat.

It sounds pretty much like anything you want it to be. I guess, It’s how YOU define it. There seems to be a lot of holier-than-thou types around that claim to fast. Frankly I’d rather you ate so you’d be too busy eating to tell me how great fasting is.

I fast 4 times a year for 6-10 days, have done so for many decades, as my grandfather before me, who lived to 99, virtually free of ill health all his life.

I met a woman who fasted for 40 days, numerous times, she was amazingly young looking for her age. She told me her mother fasted for 60 days. They are Jain’s, a relatively strict Hindu-related group I think.

Lots of people in the world believe in the stories of Jesus, who fasted for 40 days, though I never met a christian who fasted that long, nor one who would turn the other cheek, but that is a different matter.

Anyway I wish Woody luck, though when I fast I reduce or eliminate “smoke” and “drink”.

Gee, when famous women do this, they’re rightly called anorexic. Fasting can be cleansing (please engage yourself in a Google search on how long the liver needs to cleanse itself of glycogen stores) but surely forty days is quite ridiculous. Especially when it’s truly self serving and not associated with any great conviction. Please, for those of you infusing Eastern philosophy into your blog response, please refer to nutrition concepts textbooks before condoning such a prolonged fast and weaving it into the said Eastern philosophy. I’m sure there are some Easterners who are incredulous to this. Shanti.

What an idiot, as are those of you who are praising him. First of all, fasting was originally not a health restorative, it was for religous purposes. Second, has no one noticed the amount of time is 40 days, the same which Jesus fasted? I suppose next this fool will claim instead of 40 he only made 40 hours because God told him to lead people. He claims enviromentalism, yet burns things adding to the Co2 build-up through his marijuana usage. Intellectual curiosity? As a medical professional I can tell you that extreme fasting has never been proven benificial to human beings physiological health. So tell me, what is he other than a danger to himself, and therefore possibly others? If you are delusional enough to cause harm to yourself, then you would probably have no qualms about harming others. This through actions, or lack of, or through words and deeds which would lead others to cause harm to themselves by following your ideas.
