Pam Anderson’s Leather Seats to Benefit PETA?

viper.jpg

From the Associated Press today:

Pamela Anderson may have a need for speed, but her favorite charity has a need for funds.

That’s why the former “Baywatch” babe is selling her prized Dodge Viper and donating the proceeds to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals … The car will be among the offerings at Julien’s Auctions’ Summer Entertainment Sale of Hollywood memorabilia, to be held June 21 and 22 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Remember Pam Anderson’s tireless work for PETA, and all that blathering about how fur is murder? Remember her selective outrage about the use of animals in feature films and television? Remember her odd habit of taking her own kids to very PETA-unfriendly circuses?

Then maybe this won’t surprise you. The factory spec sheet for Pam’s 2000 Viper R/T includes these “standard features”:

  • Luxury trim leather on gearknob
  • Leather seat upholstery
  • Leather covered steering wheel

Say it ain’t so, Pam! How could you? Are you a PETA-loving animal defender? Or just an attention-seeking publicity whore?

To be fair, I thought maybe Pammy had her ride custom-upholstered in vinyl, or canvas, or maybe jello. PETA claims people do that sort of thing nowadays. But despite her claim today that the group is “kind of my ethical advisors,” she went for the real thing.

Here’s a snapshot from the auction catalog, provided by Julien’s:

Three words: Luxurious. Leather. Interior.

I don’t know who the bigger hypocrite is here: Pammy for riding in dead-cow comfort since 2000, or PETA for accepting a leather-fueled donation they would probably body-slam as “blood money” from anyone else.

And notice what else the catalog says:

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this car are being donated by Pamela to PETA.

A portion? What portion? Maybe just the “portion” that didn’t expose the Baywatch has-been as an attention-seeker who’s never really been into saving animals. At least not the ones whose hide feels all soft and cushy as you max out 450 horsepower.

I Wanna Party with You, Bill Murray’s Estranged Wife

Last month Jennifer Butler-Murray filed for divorce from the legendary comedian, accusing him of “adultery, addiction to marijuana and alcohol, abusive behavior, physical abuse, sexual addictions and frequent abandonment.” But according to the NY Post, she’s not exactly a saint herself:

Jennifer Butler-Murray has gotten a reputation in her suburban Charleston, SC, neighborhood as an avid drinker who gets “physical” with her children and gets into bizarre police incidents.

On March 17 of this year, Butler-Murray allegedly got drunk and two of her kids ran over to a neighbor’s house for help, according to a report filed with the Sullivan’s Island Police Department.

The trouble started after a witness saw her shouting loudly at one of her kids, the report said. Cops went to her home to investigate.

“I spoke with [her] and advised her of the complaint,” the responding officer wrote. “The w/f [white female] seemed to be very impaired and didn’t want me on her property anymore, she slammed the door and I left the residence.”

Yikes! So does this hurt her credibility, or is it just a symptom of Murray’s alleged abuse? I’m thinking she slimed him.

Anne Hathaway’s Boyfriend Is a Bit of a Sleaze

follieri_hathaway.jpgA charity headed by Anne Hathaway’s Zach Braff-lookalike boyfriend is under investigation by the New York Attorney General’s office for what looks to be tax fraud.

Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri is kind of a sketchy dude to begin with, what with the writing bad checks and the lavish spending paid for by his company, but stealing from charity would be a new low.

Now investigators are demanding that he provide financial records for the Follieri Foundation, which has never filed the required forms with the IRS.

Hathaway’s hands might not entirely be clean here. Until very recently, she was a board member for the foundation and it’s unclear why she stepped down from her post.

Two years ago, the pair went on a philanthropic mission to Nicaragua and gave some sound bytes about how important the foundation was in providing vaccines to children:

“The Follieri Foundation is dedicated to creating and funding programs that will make a difference in peoples’ lives. Each program is designed to meet the needs of the local communities,” said Raffaello Follieri, Founder and Chairman of The Follieri Foundation.

It would be sad if the foundation were also dedicated to the couple’s private jet travel and penthouse apartment in Trump Tower.

Their Carbon Footprint Wears a Size Eleventy Shoe

f21_recycle_tee.jpgFashionista.com makes an excellent point about something that is becoming more and more pervasive in fashion: the commodification of the “green” movement.

Lame-o teenybopper heaven Urban Outfitters is one of the worst offenders of this trend, but today I’ve got the budget-conscious retailer Forever 21 in my crosshairs.

The store’s most egregious wrong is a recent line of environmentally-themed graphic tees.

Not only are some of these shirts made in Asia in plants that process literally tons of synthetic materials (take this “Going Green” bag, made from 100% pure polypropylene), but the clothes then have to be shipped thousands of miles to be distributed to American stores.

Ooh, let’s all give Forever 21 a fat round of applause — they made exactly three tees from organic cotton. The air feels cleaner already.
