Al Gore’s House Still Isn’t Green

Hot on the heels of Al Gore’s not-at-all-stunning endorsement of Barack Obama — gee, McCain must be bummed! — now the increasingly planet-shaped planet-saver is dealing with an unwanted visit from some old friends:

In the year since Al Gore took steps to make his home more energy-efficient, the former Vice President’s home energy use surged more than 10%, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research…

In the past year, Gore’s home burned through 213,210 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power 232 average American households for a month…

After the Tennessee Center for Policy Research exposed Gore’s massive home energy use [in Feb. 2007], the former Vice President scurried to make his home more energy-efficient. Despite adding solar panels, installing a geothermal system, replacing existing light bulbs with more efficient models, and overhauling the home’s windows and ductwork, Gore now consumes more electricity than before the “green” overhaul.

Ouch! Al probably doesn’t find this news very… convenient.

I seem to remember that the other part of Gore’s defense last year was that he was buying carbon offsets to make up for his Earth-hating wastefulness. Of course, soon after that we learned that he was buying those offsets from his own company. Hey, he’s just recycling his own cash, right?

I think you guys got this all wrong. All the energy being used keeps all of his refrigerators running. Full blast. Those things drink energy like refrigerators running full blast. You think he gets that balloon face because he’s a vegan? And the last time I saw Tipper, she was a big as a hippopotamus with a gland problem so the A/C is crankin’ too.

i wouldnt be surprised if this man burns for his lies. hes decieved more people then Satan himself! (not really but close)

The left doesnt care about the truth. they will lie to anyone about anything as long as it gets them what they want.

  3. 3 Rocko Jun 17th, 2008 at 8:39 pm

Wait, his energy efficient house now uses more electricity? How? What did he screw up? I mean, he has solar panels. Solar panels! How is he using more electricity?

Really, more Al Gore fat jokes? CUTTING EDGE BABY! I NEVER SAW THISE BEFORE. ALSO, CAPSLOCK IS CRUISE COTROL FOR COOL!

    Yep.

  6. 6 Jaibones Jun 18th, 2008 at 12:21 am

Andrew, go back to your butt-sniffing, we’re busy having sport with Fat Albert.

Riddle me this, girls: if Al says that burning energy is destroying the planet, and says it like he really believes it, and he is burning energy like it’s some sort reality show contest, even now…what are we to conclude?

I can only conclude that Fat Albert is engaged in a conscious effort to destroy the planet and everyone on it. Ah, but Jaibones, you say, “Why would Al Gore want to kill all of mankind? Wouldn’t that include his own retarded children and grandchildren?!”

Aye, and there’s the rub. I don’t believe it. I don’t believe Al is trying to kill his own kids. In fact - are you sitting down? - in fact, I actually don’t believe that ManBearPig believes his own BS about Global Warming Hysteria. I know, kids, I know…how could that be? But I can come to no other conclusion. I think he’s lying…

    Al Gore is so fat…

    How fat is he?

He’s so fat that when he sits around the ridiculously energy-wasting house, he really sits around the ridiculously energy-wasting house!

“The left doesnt care about the truth. they will lie to anyone about anything as long as it gets them what they want.”
Yeah, ray, and the current administration didn’t actively manipulate their “facts” to the American public - as demonstrated by people who used to work for & do their PR work for them, as the most recent example - so that they could enter a poorly-supported, badly-planned, and currently open-ended war that is costing us billions annually and leaving a country that will be devastated for decades. Gore’s impact seems pretty small next to millions of Iraqis and tens of thousands of US service people who will be affected by George Waterboard Bush’s actions for the rest of their lives. Also, what’s the environmental impact of a war? If that’s not a massive carbon footprint then what would be?

  9. 9 Jenn Jun 18th, 2008 at 7:40 am

Al Gore is a liar. A big fat liar at that. He’s not buying his own global warming crap but he is making good selling it to the mindless.

  10. 10 stella Jun 18th, 2008 at 8:42 am

Who listens to him and his wife anymore? Isn’t she the jealous fat pig that came down on porn being sold at the local conveinient store or something?

He didn’t win that election, aawwww too bad. Can one imagine where we would be if he had been in charge during 9/11? He would have gone a step further than our worst President Jimmy Carter and would have invited terrorist groups to the White House for a cozy visit to discuss the issue. Oh, now wait, that’s right…that’s what we will have should NObama get into office.

  11. 11 Dvldog Jun 18th, 2008 at 9:42 am

    Dear Pot, Love Kettle:

You forgot Hitler. Hitler is worse than Al Gore too so Al Gore must be OK. The friggin story is about his HYPOCRISY, not Bush, Iraq, or the price of tea in China. I could call you a douchebag, but then you would come back and say that “yeah, but Jeffery Dahmer ate people.” So to save everybody here the pain of witnessing another round of your debating skills I won’t say it.

I’ll just think it REAL LOUD.

  12. 12 Pastafarian Jun 18th, 2008 at 9:51 am

    ManBearPig?! I am super serial.

    Al Gore is so fat…

    How fat is he?

His ass has it’s own zip code.

    I know. I’m sorry. It’s all I had.

“The left doesnt care about the truth. they will lie to anyone about anything as long as it gets them what they want.”

Whoa there buddy, by that statement alone you swayed from the point of THIS particular story by painting the “left” with one brush. I’m with “Dear Pot, Love Kettle” who is only saying that the “right” should be painted with the same brush. Glass houses…need I say more?

I think you my friend, need to stick to the point, hmmmmm?

  15. 15 Pastafarian Jun 18th, 2008 at 11:59 am

You guys don’t understand. The war in Iraq has become the lefts answer to everything. “Sure Al Gore wastes lots of energy, at least he didn’t start an illegal war in Iraq.” “I want to tell you how to live, but I didn’t start a war in Iraq.” “Yeah I eat babies for lunch, and kick puppies but I didn’t start a war in Iraq.”

But there is this. I admit it’s from the Chicago Tribune, but it’s not exactly known as a terribly conservative newspaper. I guess compared to the Sun-Times it is but that paper is garbage anyway.

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/editorials/chi-edpg-iraqedit-bdjun18,0,6894365.story

It’s not perfect. But it’s also not as bad as some who are desperate for a Democrat to become president would lead you to believe either. They seem forever stuck in some weird 2003 time warp.

I’m sorry it’s off topic, but I think people that throw up the war as a defense of everything the left does need to be answered.

  16. 16 Aleric Jun 18th, 2008 at 5:44 pm

Another example of why Al Gore should be the poster child for Energy COnservation for the Damocrat Party. Throw in Bill Clinton for Fidelity and they can do a serious set of ads.

Lets see Al can also do Gluttony, Bill can do Sloth as well as Lust.

Leave it to the internet to document itself.

Also, the verbing of nouns is getting ridiculous. It was cute when applied to Google and other proper nouns but now the thousands (maybe millions) of verbs in the English language just aren’t enough so more have to be made up. And not even good ones.

  20. 20 Dear Pot, Love Kettle Jun 19th, 2008 at 7:08 am

    Dvldog, Ruby,
You said it, not me (the Hitler comment). Well played there - make it look like I was saying things I wasn’t even thinking. As for my allegedly nonexistent debating skills, your comeback was to pretend to not call me a douchebag while actually doing so, so yours are not demonstrably proficient either - you don’t like what I say, so you just call me a name and so there! It means you won! Maybe in your end of the primate cage. You’re welcome to stay there and leave thinking people alone, on the outside of where you are.
If you want to jump on the left because “OMG! They’re lying!!!!” then you either let the right get the same treatment, or you don’t believe in the First Amendment - the one that lets you sound off like you just have. I wasn’t defending Gore, but there’s no reason I can’t do a compare and contrast - the current, lame duck (which means they won’t have to do anything to undo damage they’ve done, because they’ll be gone) administration has contributed far more in environmental destruction via the war, and while they have now, finally, admitted that there really is global warming and it might be a good idea to do something about it, they’ve only given it lip service.

    Pastafarian,
Thanks also for putting words in my mouth and attributing meanings I didn’t include. If I meant to say the things you suggest, I’d have actually said them. The impact of the war - environmental and otherwise - is not inconsiderable, and not unworthy of examination and discussion.

If the war is so great, why doesn’t everyone who supports it go sign up and go there?

  21. 21 emiproductmaster Jun 19th, 2008 at 8:28 am

“Manbearpig” in theaters soon…. Will be more believable then Al’s fictional movie, on “Science “??? Imagine that..

I think his following endeavor should be “ Non-Fictional “ PowerPoint Presentation “ Liberalism is a Mental Disorder “

All you sheepal remember that without Al Gores invention of the “ Internet “ you wouldn’t have a place surf porn sites for nude photos of Tipper Gore look-alikes.

  22. 22 Pastafarian Jun 19th, 2008 at 12:36 pm

    DearPot,LoveKettle

I didn’t think I put words in your mouth. I think the troops should come home immediately. From everywhere. Period. End of story. However, the very next time some turd filled village in Grzonkistan gets leveled by some earthquake, or 7,500 people die in an elevator accident in some god forsaken Hell hole in Pakistan, or 300,000 people become fish snacks because of a tsunami, they are on their own.

Want action in Darfur? Go ahead, here’s a plane ticket. Think there’s a problem in Tibet? Knock yourself out. As far as I am concerned, Saddam could have wiped out half that country. Whatever. We have enough problems right here in the good old U.S.of A. But I am of the opinion that we should either be involved in the world, or not at all. I prefer not at all. I guess I’ll never have to wonder what people on the left would have said if Saddam were left in power. But I can imagine. Probably just a mirror of what they’re saying now.

  23. 23 Ad hominem Jun 19th, 2008 at 7:51 pm

Well, let’s see now. First of all, the “Tennessee Center for Policy Research” is one of those apparently infinite phony-nonpartisan groups that produce conservative bulls*** as their raison d’etre. Its head, Drew Johnson, is a 28-year-old American Enterprise Institute beneficiary and frequent right-wing TV and radio guest. Its Director of Legal Policy is a right-wing activist fresh out of law school, who hasn’t even taken his bar exam yet. Secondly, their ‘investigative report’ is actually nothing more than a press release. It includes no actual citations or verifiable information of any kind. Thirdly, the ‘normal homes’ assertion actually says ‘average households.’ Which means these dips**** are comparing a 10,000 square-foot mansion to, you know, a figure that includes a vast preponderance of smaller dwellings, including apartments. That’s an old one, the sneaky use of ‘average’ to conceal disparities in the things that you’re comparing.

Anyway, to sum up, a questionable conservative activist group has asserted in an unsourced press release that Gore’s 20-room, 10,000-square-foot house in which he and his family run small businesses employing a staff of 20-odd people, and have a round-the-clock security detail — plus a guest-house and some outbuildings - uses 19.3 times the amount of power of an average housing unit of unknown but much smaller size.

Oh, and if you look at last year’s attention-seeking press release from the Tennessee Center For Policy ‘Research’, they claim that Gore’s electricity usage in 2006 was 18,400 kilowatt-hours per month. Now they’re claiming a 10% increase to 17,768 kilowatt-hours.

Employing mathematics, we find that the number 17,768 is not larger than the number 18,400.

  24. 24 Pastafarian Jun 19th, 2008 at 9:16 pm

If Fox News said 2+2=4 some people would call it a conspiracy by right-wing radio hosts. All big Al has to do is turn over a bill that says his house doesn’t use that much energy. That’s all. If he wants all this to end. It seems so simple.

  25. 25 Mike Jun 19th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

I agree that Ally Gore does not believe his own “crap” about Global Warming or climate change or whatever they call it when the current weather/climate trends dictate best brainwash tactic. What nobody ever talks about is the fact that greenhouse emissions are given off in many times more quantities in decaying matter than man could possibly accomplish. How much of that stuff is out there? Leaves, wood, crops, forests, etc. All of this material is nothing more than a slow burn of giving off carbons. Also, it is a scientific certainty that of all the carbon dioxide that man puts into the atmosphere is less than 4% of 5%. When will the people en masse, begin to educate themselves about stuff like this rather than just swallowing what they are told because they are afraid or politically oriented to believe it? My concern is while it is fashionable to slam Bush and conservatives, these misguided clones are being lead down a path to slaughter like blind sheep!
    WAKE UP AMERICA!

  26. 26 JAKE Jun 21st, 2008 at 12:29 pm

YEAH…I CAN REALLY GIVE A LOT OF CREDIBILITY TO A WEBSITE THAT APPARENTLY ONLY PUBLISHES TRASHY COMMENTS FROM OTHERS THAT RESONATE WITH THEIR OWN LIMITED AND BIASED VIEWS. YOU CALL YOURSELF NEWS? DECEIVER/COM APPEARS TO BE DOING A GREAT JOB LIVING UP TO ITS NAME. GET A LIFE! THEY DON’T GIVE THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE FOR LYING, AND BEING OVERWEIGHT IS NO CRIME (MOST AMERICANS ARE…). AL GORE HAS DONE A TREMENDOUS SERVICE TO US ALL BY RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING. IF IT COSTS HIM MORE ENERGY TO CARRY OUT HIS MISSION, I’D WHOLE LOT RATHER SEE IT GO THERE THAN TO SUPPORT YOUR RAG. I SEE NOT A WIFF OF HIS CONTRIBUTIONS HERE, WHICH MAKES NE WONDER WHO YOU PEOPLE ARE…ONE THING FOR SURE…YOU HAVE NOT GVEN THE PROBLEM MUCH THOUGHT.

  27. 27 Mike Jun 21st, 2008 at 1:13 pm

Oh yeah! Gore has really done us a great service creating…er…raising awareness of the internet. I personally think his greatest contribution was his invention of the internet. I have a news flash for you, Jake: Global warming and cooling cycles have been occurring for thousands of years and there are historical records backing that claim. There are cycles within cycles. The earth does have natural rhythms. By the way, your caps key is on. Gore sure has a lot of credibility. Maybe you should go watch your favorite movie, “Love Story”. You can probably find it on the internet.

  28. 28 Pastafarian Jun 21st, 2008 at 1:18 pm

I believe Yasser Arafat won a Nobel Peace Prize once too. Just sayin’. And the caps lock button is usually located just above “shift”. You know, so you don’t look like the type that uses all caps.

  29. 29 Mike Jun 22nd, 2008 at 1:04 pm

Sure, they probably don’t give the Nobel for lying. But, who says they give it for telling the truth? The award, in it’s various disciplines, is given on political considerations as much as anything else. Now-a-days you can get it for junk science.

I am rather disappointed we are deprived of the superior intellectual discourse you would bring to the blogosphere. Please pine in.
