Heath Ledger’s Family Is Botching Up His Will

heath_ledger_matilda.jpgRemember when Heath Ledger’s family swore that they would provide for Matilda, his daughter with Michelle Williams, even though his will had been written before she was born? Back in March:

“Matilda is our absolute priority and Michelle is an integral part of our family,” Heath’s father Kim Ledger says in a statement. “They will be taken care of and that’s how Heath would want it to be.”

Ledger’s rep quickly squashed any speculation that Williams and 2-year-old Matilda would not be provided for. “The story is getting taken out of context and media is speculating that this means Matilda and Michelle will not be taken care of. I want to make it very clear nothing could be farther from the truth.”

I’m sure Michelle Williams remembers this very clearly. But fast forward to now and apparently she and her daughter haven’t seen a dime of that inheritance. Michelle is reportedly planning to boycott the premiere of The Dark Knight next month over the dispute.

Not that I blame her. Kim Ledger made news a while back for his financial incompetence, so it wouldn’t be entirely surprising if he’s already spent it all on boomerangs and dingoes.

Yeah I’m gonna boycott The Dark Night too. But only because I’m sick of hearing about it.

    Ditto

I, too, will avoid The Dark Knight for two reasons: I don’t like the Batman franchise and {gasp} Heath Ledger’s body of work does not impress me.

Does “boomerangs” refer to the cruddy drinks or the Aborigine weapons … or both?
Does “dingos” refer to the cruddy boots or the Australian dogs … or both?

I can just picture Kim Ledger drinking boomerangs and wearing Dingo Boots while throwing boomerangs at dingoes while laughing his ass off!

I don’t get how her boycotting the movie makes a statement to the Ledger family. Do they get some percentage of the profits or something?

  5. 5 Chronic Malanga Jun 24th, 2008 at 7:04 pm

Her publicist is now saying that she had no plans to go anyway, and that she is not boycotting the film, which truthfully, if she were, that wouldn’t really make much of a difference in the way Ledger’s family is handling things. I just hope that the Ledgers get themselves together and make do on their promise, as it would only be right.

Heath had a back end deal to get profits… so I suppose yeah the family might?

My husband and I loved the last Batman movie with Christian Bale playing Batman. We can’t wait for this one, I always liked Heath Ledger as an actor and am sure he’ll be a great Joker. Katie Holmes should have reprised her role in this one, she should be kicking herself in the ass. I guess she had better movies to make with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton.

Dingos are a indiginous animal which cannot be purchased or owned legally any more then you could own a wolf or cougar.
Boomerangs are generally only sold to fat f*ck American tourists.

Most Austalians believed Heath was an uptight wanker and were more upset when Steve Urwin died (although most thought he was a wanker stereotype too until the moment he passed away)

  9. 9 Chronic Malanga Jun 25th, 2008 at 10:14 am

Australia is now number one in obesity, Des. So does that mean we can call y’all fat f*ck Aussie tourists?

If you don’t like the movie or Heath then don’t go, it’s that simple.

I myself plan on going since I enjoyed most of Heath’s work and that of Chritian Bale as well. Regardless of whether he was a wanker or not, as long as he didn’t walk around spouting political rhetoric or preaching an insane religion like a few of the other notable Hollywood Icons, he was ok in my book.

I think the point that Des was trying to make was that your comments about Dingos and Boomerangs was offensive and uneducated (given you cant drink boomerangs) and perhaps if you want to bag Kim Ledger (please feel free to do so) dont abuse the rest of the asustralian public by assuming we are all the same. I guess there quite a few choice Americans we could assume you were all the sam as if we werent against pidgeon holing and making grand assumptions. So to all skinny Americans please improve your global education before slandering other countries. Have a nice day!

  13. 13 Pastafarian Jun 25th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

How exactly do you know Discordia is from the U.S.? Every time somebody from another country tells me Americans don’t know enough about world geography, I’m going to ask that person to find Colorado on an unmarked map of the U.S. I guess being an expert on global geography, and what people drink in foreign countries is required to graduate from school in whatever place you live in. Australia excepted because it looks cool. What with all the roving bands of mohawked maniacs motorcycling around, killing people for gas and stuff.

Yeah everything I learned about Australia comes from Yahoo Serious, and Mad Max movies. What of it?

  14. 14 Chronic Malanga Jun 26th, 2008 at 2:46 am

And the point I was making was that one inaccuracy does not deserve another.

I’d like to see that same foreigner name at least 10 state capitals without including Florida, California, or New York. Heck, I’ve lived in the UK for two years and I have a better grip on the geography than a lot of the natives. So, we’re not all stupid or fat. Quite frankly, when Australia is number one in obesity, having an Aussie pull that stereotype out to make a point not only makes them look silly, but annoys me.

  15. 15 Des Jun 26th, 2008 at 5:36 am

    Chronic Malanga ,

I am an American who has lived in Oz for almost 5 years and now live in the UK also. Believe me when I say the majority of US tourist that I met in Australia were fat cattle people who bought tacky ‘made in China’ boomerangs. It’s kind of why when you are back home why you dont see people walking around in Native American head dress. Locals just know better.

As for the obesity issue. Oz has a population of roughly 22 million people (I know I was shocked to learn how few there are as well as they seem to be everywhere) which means even if 20% of them are obese that only still adds up to 4.4 million fatties.

Now if the US has a population of 304 million how many fatties do you think are floating around? Just a question and nothing to get upset about but stats can be read to suit any opinion but anyone out there with their eyes wide open know just ‘who ate all the pies’.

Love Des (who IS a fat and honest American)

  16. 16 Chronic Malanga Jun 26th, 2008 at 9:14 am

    Des,

Sorry if I am a little touchy about this subject, but let me explain just why. You may be able to relate being an American. I love the UK and I love the people. I married one of them and I don’t see myself living anywhere outside of Europe again. However, after two years, no matter how good natured, one gets tired of hearing, “I thought you’d be chunky, but you look like you need a hot meal,” when they first meet me. Another favorite was, “Is the rest of your family so thin?” with a look of disbelief to accompany it. I am tired of every American related punchline being related to fat people. Even if the US’s high population makes for more fatties, there are still plenty of healthy/thin people there too. I hardly find it any more funny than someone asking an Aussie where their kangaroo is. I’m proud of where I am from. I am proud of my countrymen, fat or not, and there are fat people everywhere. I’ve seen a lot of morbidly obese people here making fat jokes about Americans. It gets old.

Maybe the rest of the world oughta quit projecting their problems on us.

“In psychology, psychological projection (or projection bias) is a defense mechanism in which one attributes one’s own unacceptable or unwanted thoughts or/and emotions to others.”

I’ve stopped pretending to be a sociologist, and started pretending to be a shrink. They get more girls. I was gonna paste some stuff from this article but if you want just read it. Wow this has really spun off topic.

  18. 18 Discordia Jun 26th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

Actually, Discordia is from San Francisco, California. For some folks, San Francisco is a reality unto itself. However, for me, it is a vibrant and cosmopolitian city where nearly every culture co-exists though not always peacefully.
Each one of us is entitled to an opinion.
I like Christian Bale as an actor … I just don’t like the Batman franchise.
Again, I have not been impressed by Heath Ledger … could be the roles, could be him.
As for Kim Ledger, the information available is that he is a spendthrift who will eat up the estate and leave very little for Matilda.

  19. 19 B Jun 27th, 2008 at 10:41 am

While it’s quite obvious that Matilda should be a beneficiery of her father’s money, Michelle is a working actress who has hopefully managed her money well enough to be able to raise the child alone. It doesn’t take Heather Mills’ demand levels of money to do so. Michelle hasn’t exactly been working the checkout line at Walmart.
That, of course, does not excuse the behavior of Heath’s family.

  20. 20 chris Jun 27th, 2008 at 5:44 pm

Michelle williams is not only a working actress, she comes from an incredibly wealthy family where im sure if she wanted to just sit around and do nothing all day, she would still do it in comfort. Although the daughter should get her fair share. The Ledger family are acting like true blue aussies, seeing an opportunity and seizing it regardless of who it affects.
