Leo DiCaprio: He’s No Mail Model

A few months ago, planet-saving carbon-spewer Leonardo DiCaprio threw his support behind a national Do Not Mail Registry to help stop junk mailers from killing all those precious trees and filling our trash cans with coupons and credit card applications and such. Which is definitely a good cause. Even if you could care less about what happens to a bunch of stupid leaf-mongering eyesores, it’s annoying to go to the mailbox and find a bunch of worthless crap.

But wait. What’s this? Leo’s doing what? Say it isn’t so, Page Six:

This week, freelance writer Philip Recchia received in the mail a big envelope with DiCaprio’s name on the return address space, soliciting donations for the Natural Resource Defense Council’s “Polar Bear S.O.S.” campaign.

Inside the envelope were a one-page pitch letter from DiCaprio and a two-page pitch letter from NRDC president Frances Beinecke; a flyer for a free “Save the Polar Bear!” tote bag; a donation form/petition to the secretary of the interior, urging him to protect the polar bear as an endangered species; and a return envelope…

AKA: Junk mail!

But DiCaprio’s flack, Ken Sunshine, who also reps the NRDC, makes no apologies. “Guilty as charged!” he told Page Six, adding the star’s “environmental commitment is unending.”

Sounds more like he’s committed to ending the environment. It’s either Save the Polar Bears or Save the Trees, kid. Gotta choose. (I vote for the polar bears. They’re awesome. Grrrrrr!)

Gawd - these celebutwits now think they can just shrug their shoulders and take the ‘whatever’ position. Any credibility this dope had is totally, 100% gone. What an a**hole.

Save bears or trees? I say trees. No ones ever been eaten by a tree. Except that one unfortunate incident with my third ex and the ultra rare Polynesian Eating Tree. As far as the cops were concerned anyway. I guess now I just avoid Guam too.

There’s a reason why E-Mail spam exist. They should learn about that.

The pic is soo wrong and yet soo right.

I guess the Nardo sees junk mail as anything that does not have his name on it?

  5. 5 llamasrule Jul 10th, 2008 at 4:50 pm

Yeah, trees. Bears are vicious, even the cute ones, like kaolas and baby polar bears. Ask Colbert. Definitely save the trees. Oh and Leo, make up your mind!

I agree, polar bears are awesome! However, I like the shade provided by trees in the summer and the way hoar frost looks on them in the winter. Tough call indeed. hmmmm maybe we can make Leonardo DiCraprio an endangerd species. That way everyone would be happy, except like maybe two people.

I agree, the polar bears are not necessary, besides they don’t even taste that good.

I like polar bears. I like trees. I am starting to not like Leonardo DiCaprio.

Why don’t these people just stick to acting?

  9. 9 llamasrule Jul 10th, 2008 at 10:05 pm

Really, Chronic Malanga. When did actors become “the experts” on issues. Why? How? Who cares?

  10. 10 Chronic Malanga Jul 11th, 2008 at 4:27 am

I always laugh when an actor starts backing this or that politician, or this or that cause. Very few can actually do this without revealing their ignorance, and many times, outright stupidity. llamasrule, I admire a lot of performers, but I don’t go to them for political advice. Why would anyone with half a brain?

At what point did Leo ever have “credibility”?

Sometimes I actually almost pity these people. After all, many actually come to the realization that they are just “entertainers” who get paid vast amounts of money for doing spewing cultural garbage upon society. That’s why they typically take up liberal causes; so they can be both popular and socially relevant.

  12. 12 llamasrule Jul 11th, 2008 at 2:30 pm

They should just stick to being popular and irreverant. Those are my favorites.

  13. 13 Hi Heels Lo Life Jul 13th, 2008 at 12:53 pm

In definite agreement with ya llamasrule.

    That photo is perfect.

It’s clear you children know little or nothing about his environmental activism. Typical of those who only like to rag on someone.

Oh, and FYI: the NRDC uses 100% PCW paper to send out messages. For all those who don’t understand that acronym, which judging from these messages is every one of you, that means it’s printed on recycled paper.

Sorry to burst your bubble, kids, but DiCaprio is one celeb who is educated on the issue he promotes, and who walks that talk.

Great. How does that make it not junk mail?

  17. 17 lighthouse Jul 15th, 2008 at 12:14 am

It’s not junk mail when someone cares about what happens to the Polar Bears and the Environment! Maybe you would like to live in a black topped world, but since the paper is 100% recycled there are no extra trees cut down! Leo is one of the very few celebs who does care more about the world around us rather than himself!

    No, I like blondes too.

Leo is one of the very few celebs who does care more about the world around us rather than himself!

    Wow.

  19. 19 Pastafarian Jul 15th, 2008 at 11:29 am

I always thought the trees that are used to make paper, are specifically grown for that purpose. If thats the case what difference does it make how many trees are used? I don’t know why but the board is posting this under Hi Heels Lo Life’s name. And not my awesome self.
