U.S. presidential candidate John McCain griped to Reuters yesterday:
Republican presidential candidate John McCain said on Thursday he believes Democrat Barack Obama’s upcoming trip to Europe is tantamount to holding political rallies abroad …
“If he’s going to have a rally at the Brandenburg Gate, which is what is being publicly stated — of course if you have political rallies, it’s a political event,” he said.
McCain visited Colombia and Mexico earlier this month.
The fact that McCain just visited Colombia and Mexico isn’t the punchline.
The red, white, and blue invitation on your left? That’s the punchline.
Just four months ago, McCain held an invite-only fundraiser in London, that big city in that big monarchy his own country declared independence from a few centuries ago. The Washington Post reported that tickets went from anywhere from $1,000 to $2,300 each.
And although foreigners weren’t allowed to contribute money, one legal watchdog group — a conservative one — filed a complaint claiming that the British nobles were essentially making an “in-kind” contribution by donating the venue for the meet-and-greet.
If you’re thinking about trying to type in the long customized URL on the invitation, don’t bother. I already tried, and it leads here. No real content, but that cute half-American, half-British flag is still there. How patriotic.

Yea, never did get the big deal about Obama going overseas. Didn’t McCain invite him to tour Iraq? Now he’s going and people are saying he’s going for a photo-op. I still don’t know why the big three news networks are sending their anchors on his heels, chasing after him like love sick puppies as he travels the world.
Geez, can the conventions get here already so these two can become official candidates and we can get a debate or town hall meeting or something (nothing involving YouTube please) ? All this inconsequential bullshit is wearing on my patience.
McCain isn’t attacking Obama going overseas — McCain invited Obama to go with him to Iraq. McCain is talking about political rallies. McCain specifically noted, “a rally at the Brandenburg Gate”. As in people rallying for Obama at the gate.
Politicians are all whiners.
He can’t even remember his name from day to day, how is he supposed to remember an overseas rally he held FOUR whole months ago? GOD, I wish we had another choice this time around!!

@Benson
A rally? IF Obama gives a speech there are going to be people who want to see him speak. I don’t agree with the Brandenburg thing. Gordon Brown and Angela Merkle aren’t coming to Mount Rushmore to give speeches during their election seasons.
@llamasrule
Whoa, we’re making age jokes now? Black jokes next?
Not an age joke, I really don’t think it’s funny. He can’t remember how he votes on certain issues, he can’t remember what he said about certain issues from day to day, he’s a dyed-in-the-wool flip-flopper. He “change his mind” constantly!
McCain would have no problem with Obama trip if he did it on McCain’s terms. Due to the historic nature of Obama’s campaign more people find him interesting. McCain should actually be glad he isn’t getting the coverage that Obama does because then a lot of McCain’s gaffes, lies and flip-flops would be reported
John McCain is a dreamer, that’s for sure. He’s enough of his own man not to be Bush. But the stigma of Bush is a burden he probably won’t be able to overcome politically. His numbers are down, his message is vacillating and he’s not very interesting. On domestic issues he’s weak and on foreign policy he’s delusional.
