If she's fat then I must be the goodyear blimp! I'm only like 2 sizes larger than her!

Things like this are why I avoid media, "woman's" magazines (more like cut down advertisement) and all that BS.

They are telling us to starve ourselves and you want to know why?

A depressed person with low self esteem is easier to sell to, by knocking us they are tearing our will down so they can sell to us.

I for one ain't falling for it!

I definitely concur with you, Dissident.

Not to really turn this thread around to be about me, but I'm just speaking through personal experience that I could care less what appears in women's fashion magazines and catalogs. Admittedly, magazines like Maxim always knock my self-esteem down a peg or three because I want to conform to men's standards of beauty, which can only be attained through surgery, HOURS of makeup, a personal trainer, an impossible diet, and airbrushing. Ever notice how many of the female celebrities praised by Maxim aren't extremely well at what they're paid to do? If women had the time and money to waste that these women do, we'd all look our best as well, but until then, men's magazines need to get real as well as BS like Cosmo and Glamour, or whatever.

I'm sure a lot of other women feel the same way as well, undoubtedly.

On the other hand, I think that these fluffy women's magazines are inconsistent and I think that should be exposed, and really, it goes beyond the pages of magazines: women's TV channels, talk shows, etc.

My problem lies more so in these body stereotypes falling into mens magazines. When women see that this is what men want they try to attain and even surpass.

I have to say, she's smokin' hot.
Not fat by any means.

I think fashion and hollywood too, confuse having breasts with being fat. It seems the only way being "curvaceous" is acceptable is if said breasts are improbably large, and standing away from the body like two grapefruits on a toothpick...I also hate the way the word "curvaceous" is code for "fat."

I agree with you, Christina X...the hypocrisy in the articles alone is astounding. Now, I know Cosmo is no New York Magazine, but when half of the articles are about loving your body as is and the other half is about getting a perkier butt through diet and exercise, what am I supposed to do?

Get the perkier butt, that's what. Guys love perky butts. Cosmo tells me so.

I think it's pretty f*cked up that these ads most often appear in women's magazines.

My point? That in just about every women's magazine I have picked up and "read", there's at least one article about how women should love and embrace their bodies, and then you turn the page, and they're implying that you're fat provided that a lot of women are either the same size or larger than Eva Mendes.

A lot of these magazines (yes, I'm talking to YOU, Vogue, Cosmo, etc) are really hurting themselves by insulting their core audience.
