A Deeper Look into the Mind of Rielle Hunter

(NOTE: As of 8/2, the web page I describe in this post is gone, replaced by a “Blocked Site Error” page. Who blocked it? That’s a very good question.)

Yesterday I told you about the mysterious reappearance of Rielle Hunter’s web site, Being Is Free (the sudden disappearance of which last year helped start this whole controversy over whether John Edwards has an illegitimate kid). Since then, I’ve been surfing through that site so you don’t have to. There’s a whole lot of Eastern mysticism and spiritual enlightenment to be found in its pages, not to mention a deep, rich vein of unintentional humor.

There are over a dozen different pages on the site, and I get the feeling that each one is going to deserve special attention. So I’ll examine it in sections, for both your sake and mine. I’ll look at one of the columns of links on her home page per entry, picking out any interesting quotes and trying to tie them together with some of the new info we’ve been getting over the past week or so.

So let’s kick things off with what seems to be the big question on a lot of people’s minds when it comes to Rielle Hunter: Who Is She?

intention for being: This is Rielle’s “About” page. It starts off with a startling insight:

On May 4th 2004, enlightenment happened. Meaning, I realized I AM what I’ve been looking for.

Rielle Hunter was Obama before Obama was!

Throughout the site, she refers to this moment of life-changing enlightenment as “the shift.” On this page she explains what that means (which I’m clearly not “shifty” enough to comprehend), and then she laments one of the biggest pitfalls of her spiritual journey up to that point:

How could I have cost myself so much money? This enlightenment cost me thousands and thousands of dollars. Here I was completely broke, I had just sold my most valuable possession, a rare statue of Baba Muktananda in order to afford yet another spiritual retreat and lo and behold: BEING is FREE. Having to pay money for your Self for Being is not only ridiculous, it’s retarded.

Totally! So, why not get a millionaire politician to do it?

story of my life: This is obviously a direct reference to the Jay McInerney novel Story of My Life, whose main character McInterney says was based on Hunter. She doesn’t mention the novel here, but she does say this:

The memories of my past, the story of ‘me’, are patchy at best. I used to be able to retain a lot of information. In fact, I used to credit myself with having a memory like a steel trap. That isn’t the case anymore. I can’t retain s***. Which may be due to the shift, perhaps my age, perhaps all the coke I snorted in the eighties. Perhaps none of the above. Perhaps the wool hat on my head is too tight, perhaps the altitude is too high or the dog is barking too loud. My point is: S*** happens, and there could be a billion reasons why.

Her memory is so bad, she can’t even remember who her kid’s dad is!

And if I shared all the stuff I could remember it would just be giving “my story” fuel. And I don’t want to do that, for two reasons: One: Any public recognition or fame that comes this way is not about the story of me or me having done something, attained something, THERE IS NO ME. The recognition that comes this way is happening to help you uncover the REAL YOU, That which creates your story.

Glad we cleared that up. “THERE IS NO ME.” Well, it’s true: If John Edwards had his way, she’d be completely invisible.

By the way, she says she was born (and by “she” I mean her physical shell) on 3/20/64 in Ft. Lauderdale.

shift happens: At first I thought this page was her blog, but upon further study, it seems to be her account of the 2004 spiritual retreat that led up to “the shift.” Just to give you an idea of what she “shifted” from, here’s the opener:

5/2/04
Got to Yosemite around five P.M. The big swinging silent retreat. And oh my God, I couldn’t be a bigger bitch. I mean, how many of these stupid spiritual retreats do I have to go on? The poor bellboy who helped bring our luggage to the room, I probably damaged him for life. And I don’t care. Not a rat’s ass. Funny how I immediately saw the perfection in it. Usually I care so much how anyone is reacting to me, wanting everyone to love me. Yeah well, f*** that. I know I need to let go and fully be the bitch. So bitch I am.

I immediately put in an emergency call to Bob, my savior, healer of all healers. Of course, I got his machine. Left a message - desperately pleading for him to clear all the heavy energy that’s still lingering in this room from every Tom Tourist and Mary Middle America. And Jesus, do I hate this room. The ceilings are too low. How anyone could build a hotel with ceilings this low is beyond me. And how perfect of a reflection is that? Me in a room where the ceiling is too low and the top of my head about to explode.

Sounds like she really did need to get her “shift” together! I sort of scrolled down after that, but presumably she ended up getting her head straight and changing her life for the better, The End.

kids on board: This is the cute name for Being Is Free’s “board of directors,” which consisted of Hunter, Mimi Hockman (this Mimi Hockman? who helped Hunter make those Edwards campaign videos?), and… Bob McGovern. Hmmm. Could this be the same Bob McGovern who, according to the National Enquirer, rented those rooms at the Beverly Hilton last week and drove Hunter and Edwards there? Might not be. Sure, it does seem unlikely that the Enquirer would pluck the name “Bob McGovern” out of thin air, only to find out that Hunter once had some sort of business relationship with a guy by the same name. But it’s not impossible. After all, Coincidences Are Free too!

Stay tuned next time for Part 2 of A Deeper Look into the Mind of Rielle Hunter, AKA I Do the Simple Googling That All the Newspapers Apparently Can’t.

P.S. It just occurred to me… Is Bob McGovern also “Bob, my savior, healer of all healers”? If so, he might want to find a new gig. (Update: Possible info on Mr. McGovern here.)

Who’s been tipping the Enquirer? I’m going to guess their names could be either Bob or Mimi. That seems to be Hunter’s consistent inner circle. I talked to the Enquirers editor David Perel today and he told me the story started with a ’source’. My third guess for the source’s name is Rielle. All speculation on my part. What we know for sure is that the NE reporters were checked into the hotel before Edwards got there. They know he was coming.

Damn, that woman is DEEP. Even deeper I’d rekon’ than Johnny Edwards his-self.

    This website is priceless.

I like how John Edwards has Jedi Mind tricks, “You did not see any story on me to report about.” Waggles his fingers at the MSM.

“My third guess for the source’s name is Rielle”

Sure, it’s payed-off rather handsomely so far, hasn’t it?

I just spent a mind-numbing half hour reading through the “shift happens” section of her website and all I can say is how desperately I wish I had spent my time in a higher pursuit…like maybe gouging out my eyes with spoons or removing all my moles with a rusty razor blade. This woman is so obsessed with herself that I’m surprised she can even function in society. Although I now see why John “Coif” Edwards is attracted to her. They are obviously kindred spirits. And now I’m hoping someone can suggest a way to scour the words of this vacuous, useless, waste of flesh from my brain…maybe battery acid?

  7. 7 Supernetuser Jul 31st, 2008 at 11:54 am

She’s damaging herself with her new age nonsense but most of all, she’s damaged Edwards beyond repair. The whole thing is disgusting, isn’t it folks?

  8. 8 Pastafarian Jul 31st, 2008 at 12:44 pm

Birds of a feather right? These are the kind of people that surround John Edwards?

  9. 9 Ben Jul 31st, 2008 at 2:18 pm

    @Snoop Diggity-DANG-Dawg -

John Edwards knows EXACTLY how “deep” Ms Hunter is.

Juvenile and lewd I know, but I had to…

She is obviously a hippie chick. Probabably reads the unreadable pablum put out by ’swamis’, ‘gurus’, and other con artists. Shakespeare? Forget it. She is no doubt an authority on Kama Sutra and Tantra; so it is understandable that Edwards or any man would want to receive ‘counsel’ from her.

  11. 11 Patrick of Atlantis Jul 31st, 2008 at 4:57 pm

I am sorry. I wrote ‘Pablum’, but I really meant ‘Vomit’. Sorry.

  12. 12 Edith Ann Jul 31st, 2008 at 5:20 pm

If this happened it was a set up and a con job. These three are like the old palm reader cons. I agree, if this happened, they are the ones who set up JE and they made the call to the Enquirer. He probably was unaware of the significance of the Beverly Hills Hilton to reporters and was dumb enough to walk right into the trap. Remember he’s basically a North Carolina hillbilly made good. My bet is he’s never seen the likes of these three. What I can’t figure out is how they could plan a baby. This was probably just a gift. Do you know how unlucky you have to be to get a 42 year old woman, who has never had a baby, pregnant? Since this one believes in multiple partners I hope someone DNA’ed the baby. Then I’m not sure I would believe them. At first I thought he was scum, now I think he’s pathetic and I feel sorry for him. If any of this actually happened.

I hadn’t considered that, but based on what we’re learning about these people — no thanks to the newspapers and TV — that sounds plausible. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. At this point almost nobody’s even reporting the initial story, let alone all the weirdness.

  14. 14 Doe Jul 31st, 2008 at 9:22 pm

Edith Ann - I agree - I left a comment about my theory under the Bob McGovern story. They are playing JE for a fool. She probably assured him she was using BC. OOOOPs. I bet he feels like he has been hit in the face with a 2X4. I don’t think he has enough $ to keep it going. $15000 per month isn’t enough in CA (hat tip Roger Simon). He is probably over her and this feels like a very bad hang over. She, on the other hand, is now piling it on “meet me, or I spill the beans on The View” something of that nature…. What a mess

  15. 15 Bill Jul 31st, 2008 at 11:28 pm

If this is the sort of person Edwards sleeps with then you dodged a bullet when he missed out on the nomination. Odds are he probably isn’t the proud father though.
Despite the MSM’s lack of interest it will permanently terminate his Presidential aspirations.

Aah, Baba Muktananda and the thousand-dollar weekend enlightenment ‘retreats’.

Baba Muktananda who achieved his own Enlightenment in a Bombay jail with a mouth full of garlic, became the photogenic Guru to the American Stars of the 1970’s, died leaving (child of his Bombay shopkeeper benefactor) ‘Gurumayi’ his Guru successor, whose own boyfriend and ‘fixer’ George Afif used to get invites to the Hollywood Oscars, maybe still does for all I know. Now there’s a tale worth telling.

Like, then I met John Edwards and realized, like, “Being is free!” Only suckers bottom-feed off the negative energy of working for a living. No more spiritual retreats for me — how retarded! — I’ve learned how to just BE!

I saw the President not as some guy in a suit who’s leader of the free world but as a MAN. Nobody else treated him like that, only me. Tee hee! He and I would stare up and the stars, discuss education policy, he turned out to be really smart!

    Those are the two answers.

The question: which would be the more annoying mistress?

  19. 19 YouDidGoogleItTho Aug 10th, 2008 at 11:03 am

Think of the fun we missed out on if everything worked right to have John John elected to the presidency and then the story broke.

  20. 20 SayItAin'tSo Aug 11th, 2008 at 12:31 pm

The woman has absolutely no redeeming qualities, does she?

What the hell was John Edwards thinking?

  21. 21 Laura Aug 12th, 2008 at 4:49 pm

One does not need to read any of her self absorbed drivel to understand her.
Her “type” of woman is a dime a dozen… barely attractive, desperate nobodies who find self worth riding bare-assed on the coat tails of other more notable narcissists (aka someone else’s husband) with no concern for whom they hurt along they way - children and cancer sufferers included.
Me me me blah blah blah.

Being is free? Seems to me her being comes with a heavy price.
