I don’t know what she’s done lately to score the cover of Britain’s Marie Claire, but Mischa Barton has a way of getting her pretty (and yet oddly dyspeptic-looking) mug all over.
Oh that’s right, I almost forgot, she was arrested for a DUI last year.
In the accompanying interview, she talks (again) about her arrest:
“The thing is, I hate drunk drivers. Living in L.A., I can’t stand them, and that’s why I was so disappointed in myself. I wanted to prove to the court that I would take it completely seriously, so I went to rehab to prove I was sober.
“It really helped in getting the more serious aspects of my case dropped because, you know, that’s what they want to hear: you’re not an alcoholic, and you don’t have a problem.”
This sounds closer to remorse than what she said in her Nylon interview last month, but there’s still a missing element of personal responsibility.
She hates drunk drivers? Sure, why not. But wasn’t she 100% in control of this situation? Or was it an accident that she got behind the wheel when she knew she wasn’t supposed to?
Speaking of, whatever happened to P-Diddy’s chaufferring service to the stars? I thought it was a brilliant idea to take care of these idiots.
ETA: Loyal reader Ellen pointed this out to us — if Mischa is so sober, what is she doing walking around in public with a bottle of tequila?

Well in her defense she wasn’t carrying a bottle of Tequila, her lacky/male friend was. That or he found it and didn’t want to through away expensive liquor.
Girls and tequila? I don’t know.
Celebrity rehab is the biggest hypocrisy in the world.
Mischa is a hypocrite. All this “sober” talk of hers is pure lip service. Of course she has a drinking problem. She’s had it even before she got her DUI, and she has it until now.
I think what baffles me is that she is landing magazine covers. Never mind that her DUI and rehab stint were passe when she got busted anyway, but it wasn’t even that great a story at the time. I suspect that the only reason she got this magazine cover was because someone slightly more relevant cancelled out. They got her talking about the DUI because it’s the most interesting thing she’s done in who knows how long.
And yeah, jewels, you pretty much said it.
I, too, am totally baffled by her getting on magazine covers. She is totally irrelevant and passe. What little career she had is gone. She should accept her fate and move on to something else.

She got busted for a DUI in LA. Given the track record for incarceration of celebrities (actual or make believe) I’ll be suprised if, in the event she violates her probabtion, she serves a sentence longer than Kim Largea__shedumb, who served 138 minutes.

To iam: So she made one mistake. And she’s not “ugly” on the inside. She does a huge amount of charity work all over the world.
Mischa has a habit of saying one thing and doing another.
She keeps on saying she’s not like Paris or Lindsay or “the other girls” and then she gets a DUI. Even before that, there’s the incident in Nicole’s house where she mixed up her alcohol and ‘antibiotics’ and lots of sightings of her wasted. She says she doesn’t understand the paparazzi attention but she sets up her own photo ops. Playing with her dogs, going to church, posing on the beach, etc. She claims to be professional but she leaked the ending of the OC to the press before it aired, and of course she failed to promote her own movie at Cannes. Partied but didn’t show up at the premiere. She claims to have gone to rehab and is now sober but there are pictures of her drinking. The truth just gets thrown right back at her face.
I don’t believe she’s like “the other girls”. She made a mistake that reminds you of the stuff they do. Mixing antibiotics and alcohol is very common, but since she’s a celeb, it was magnified. I’m not so sure that all of those candids were photo ops, because the paps follow her all over the world almost every minute of the day, especially when she was in the news with the DUI. I’m sure she had her reasons for not attending the Cannes event. There are many things that go on behind the scenes in the film and tv industries that we don’t know about. And as far as the “sightings” of her getting wasted, I saw a picture of her on the floor where the author of a blog said she was drunk, and later discovered another pic from that same group of her, and she was just petting a dog. Read these articles. They talk about Mischa’s “relationship” with the photo agency Pacific Coast News. The pictures of Mischa leaving church, playing with her dogs, frolicking on the beach were all taken by Pacific Coast News. Gee, what a coincidence.

To pcn: The articles you posted are just speculation. Pacific Coast News is a huge paparazzi agency that deals with candids and gossip. Besides, I don’t think Mischa would be picking her butt in a “staged” shoot (see your 2nd link, 2nd pic) lol. Plus, she plays with her dogs, and frolics on the beach all the time.

Report: Mischa Barton Boozes Up
She was busted for a DUI at the end of last year, but that hasn’t stopped Mischa Barton from enjoying a few … or a few too many.
Barton attended Oakley/Muscle Milk’s X Games bash at the Key Club last week and we’re told she was well, pretty wasted as her pals protected her and escorted around. Although the good news is that the former “O.C.” starlet didn’t drive herself home.
Key phrase “we’re told”. Right, Fox News is a real reliable source! And just because someone drinks, doesn’t mean they’re drunk!

She’s very bright. Like I said before, people make mistakes. Antibiotics don’t get you high in the first place, so why would a person take “someone else’s antibiotics”?

You know what they say- you bash someone “its just jealousy”
Mischa made a mistake with her DUI, and she admitted to it. We all make mistakes and do silly things, especially when we’re younger. When I was in my mid-teens, I was a real terror, getting drunk, taking stuff I shouldn’t have, and doing really crazy stuff which, when I look back on it now, was really stupid and sometimes downright dangerous. People who knew me back then tell me they’re amazed I’m still here, because they were convinced I’d either end up in jail or dead! But eventually I saw how stupid I was being and straightened myself out (although it did take someone I knew dying to show me that…). The only reason most people didn’t hear about it is because I’m not famous.
Mischa, on the other hand, IS famous, and so every little thing she does is photographed, filmed and analysed by so-called “experts” and enthusiastic amateurs such as yourselves in an attempt to try and figure her out (and, very often, bash her…). Because of this, every little mistake she makes is hugely blown out of proportion by people who often conveniently forget that they’ve made the very same mistakes themselves - or have the capability to make those same mistakes in the future.
Yes, Mischa made a mistake… Yes, she was really stupid to do what she did… And yes, some of the stuff she did right afterwards did look like it was arranged by her PR people to try and limit the damage to her image and career… But does all this make her a hypocrite? No, I don’t think it does. If she turned around and criticised drunk drivers while being seen weaving home from the bar every night, then she’d be a hypocrite. But she doesn’t - What Mischa did was make a silly and totally out-of-character mistake, which she’s admitted to and is trying to put behind her. Sadly, she’s not helped in this by people who insist on constantly dragging it up all the time…
And like meeshhead (who’s one of the global mods on the Mischa forum I run), I’m not here looking for people who praise Mischa - I’m looking for those who bash her, because she’s not able to defend herself against attacks such as these.
(And, as meeshhead has already pointed out with the bit about the dog, always remember that isolated pictures taken out of context don’t always show the true or full situation - so don’t jump to hasty conclusions until you’ve seen all the pictures…)

At the Boost Mobile BBQ, Mischa Barton told Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson that she’s planning a safari to Africa, possibly for charity. But guests just snickered, saying it was a photo op to revamp her sagging image.
She’s been doing charity events for years, well before the DUI. I don’t think guests who “snickered” are a good gauge of reality (especially Ashley Simpson’s crew).
If you check back through the old interviews with Mischa, you’ll see that, over a year ago, she was saying about how she wanted to do a charity trip to Africa. So it’s NOT a “new idea” or anything aimed to “revamp her sagging image”…
People really do need to check their facts before posting stuff like that!
Leave Mischa alone, for sake. She made a mistake, and she is sorry for it. She’s only a human being, you know, she’s not perfect. I don’t get why people keep on dragging it up all the time to make her look bad..they talk as if they have never done anything wrong in their life. Judging from your jealous, catty comments, they have, and Mischa is a kinder person than any of you. It’s a joke, every picture taken of her is scandalised, she’s made out to be some kind of villian. The person who keeps dragging it up is Mischa in interviews. She talked about it in the MC interview which has just been published. Therefore, people are allowed to comment. If she hadn’t continually claimed in interviews that she was somehow better than other young Hollywood celebrities, the DUI wouldn’t have got anywhere near as much attention. Nobody likes a hypocrite, and Mischa set herself up well and truly with her attitude.
Mischa sets herself up for these comments. Criticizing her isn’t jealousy or bashing. Some of her fans put her up on this pedestal and act like she’s this “victim” and attempt to rationalize what she did. A friend of mine accidently drank some wine while he was taking an antibiotic. There was no reaction, and his doctor said that the only problem that could occur is the antibiotic wouldn’t be as effective when mixed with alcohol. It’s extremely common. Mischa had a bad reaction from it because people are different. It may have been an allergic reaction. Mixing alcohol and antibiotics doesn’t get you high, so that obviously wasn’t her motive. And as far as the Cannes event goes, who knows what goes on behind the scenes?
