The following video is from the Father of the Year Awards in New York on June 7, 2007. Which, oddly enough, was a little less than 9 months before Frances Quinn Hunter, daughter of Rielle Hunter, was born on Feb. 27, 2008. I mention this for no particular reason.

As I noted yesterday, all sorts of information about this story has been mysteriously disappearing from the Internet. So I’d advise you to download this video if you want to watch it more than once or show it to somebody else. It’s from the official John Edwards YouTube channel, and they might just pull it when they see people talking about it in a slightly different context. Actually, at this point I hope they take it down, just to confirm the pattern.

P.P.S. Via Roger L. Simon, you can read a cached copy of the now-deleted Wikipedia entry on this whole scandal here. I’ve only skimmed it, but it seems notable that the References section lists 83 — that’s 80 plus 3 — references to “legitimate” news sources with information on the topic. Somebody at Wikipedia put a lot of work into this thing and made it as well-sourced as humanly possible. And then somebody else at Wikipedia decided you shouldn’t see it. Wonder why?
Why do people find it necessary to use facts to bring down John Boy? Can’t we just take his word, vote for him, and let him dictate our lives? We’d be better off because thinking on our own is just too much trouble.
Father of the year; what a joke and an insult to his children and his wife.
Also, I don’t believe the Kilimanjaro story. No reputable mountain guide would allow someone to resume his climb after having stopped because of altitude sickness. In fact, once a climber has stopped either by his own decision or the decision of the lead guide, another guide escorts him and any other climbers deemed not fit to continue back down to the last base camp. Am I to believe that Edwards and his son, with little or no real mountain climbing experience, attempted a climb without guides and porters?
I call “bulls***”.
Men have enough of a hard time and getting such a bad rap as parents sometimes, so why did John Edwards find it necessary to humiliate this group that gave him this award. when he got the award the girl was already pregnant and he still went and accepted. That is just wrong. Couldn’t he just lie and not show up and take his name out of the running?
In his defense, if he is the father, this clip would have been only a week or two after conception…
Simon, he still was happily committing adultery even if he didn’t know the woman was pregnant. The guy’s a jerk.
Well, yeah. My point is that when he was giving this speech, there’s no way he could have known he’d allegedly gotten her pregnant. It’s just a perfect, albeit alleged, coincidence.
All of you with superior intellect and morality, please run for public office. We could use you! Especially those of you with the intuitive ability who know exactly what the Edwards’ think, feel, and should do.
First of all, being a father entails a whole lot more than providing a residence and food. Being a role model is a big part of it. What a tool to receive an award for Father of Year, all the while having a long-running affair with another woman. How do you think this is going to make his family feel? Not good, I can tell you. Next, to hadenuf, this wasn’t about John Edwards running for office. It’s about him accepting an award for FATHER OF THE YEAR. See the difference? What should the Edwards’ do? The wife is fighting a life and death battle with cancer, they have children at home, so RIGHT! the logical right thing to do is for John to have an affair and make an illegitmiate child. I don’t care what political persuasian you are, that just plain sucks. Big time.
I’ll tell you who probably knows a lot about this relationship. It’s the 2 young men who traveled with him and also traveled overseas with both of them. They were also in the Vids. These boys were always around if and when JRE met her in hotel rooms. It appears he always met her after events especially in New York. I always gave him a pass on the New York thing because Cate lived in NY at that time. Interestingly, EE stayed with Cate when in NY. Apparently JE didn’t. He went back to the hotel. Now we may know why. Those kids KNOW. They are of the age that they probably talked about it while it ws going on and probably got a good laugh at the OLD fart at the same time.

They already are. Some of them have names like Bill Clinton, Ted Stevens, Jack Murtha, and ‘Duke’ Cunningham.
What about David Vitter, Newt Gingrich, Bob Barr, Robert Livingston, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, and that fat guy who was the former House speaker. Also, most of the former president’s of the USA. Just some more of the reasons I will never give money to a male politician again. I know. I know. Women do it too. With the exception of Mary Fallon-OK most women are usually in love not in lust. I did give money to JE. If this story proves to be true, I feel like I should get my money back. If this story is true, he knew he wouldn’t be able to go the distance. He sold me a defective product. Isn’t that the reason for most of his law suits. Product liability = defective product. I want my money back. Man, Bill Clinton must be on top of the world now. If this story is true, he isn’t the worst person in the world any more.

He got a speeding ticket in Iowa from the Iowa Highway Patrol between December 20 and December 27, 2007 for going 82 in a 74 zone and paid $102.80.
File a public records request on Josh and you will blow this case open.

This would be sensational stuff except that Edwards wife was with him at the Father of the Year awards. He was also with her when she got a Mother of the Year award.

She started attending Harvard Law School in the fall of 2006. She probably didn’t stay in New York City for that. Why isn’t it being posted that Edwards wife was with him at the Father of the Year awards? Doesn’t fit your story?
Yes, Elizebath was with him and he was with her. Did I hear, Elizabeth the love of my life again? If I didn’t it was an oversite. ‘Cause he says it in about every interveiw. That and I’m a son of a mill worker. There’s another end to son of…. Wasn’t R pregnant about 2 months when JE and EE renewed their vows. Man, did he break both vows? Greg, I don’t think anybody is saying Edwards impregnated Rielle Hunter onstage. I don’t see what Elizabeth being there has to do with it.

This just got a lot more interesting.
John Edwards’ College for Everyone program was abruptly ended without notice on August 2, 2008, and in the last 48 hours many of its online references were deleted in the dead of night with no explanation as soon as they were cited publicly, a digital scrubbing almost identical to that received by Rielle Hunter’s website mirror, Bob McGovern’s contact information, etc, etc.
A betting man might conclude that one of the undisclosed primary donors to John Edwards’s Center for Promise and Opportunity (a section 501C-4), and its spinoff the College for Everyone program, was or is Rielle Hunter and Andrew Young’s money man.
The CFE’s Executive Director was Pamela Hampton-Garland (formerly Pamela Garland).
Someone should call her and ask if there is a financial link between Rielle Hunter and the College for Everyone program.
If I was to bet the house right now, I’d bet Rielle Hunter’s money man was billionaire Hollywood producer and fellow deadbeat dad Steven Bing, who denied paternity of both Liz Hurley’s and Kirk Kerkorian’s wife’s baby for years.
He’s loaded, he’s historically been one of Edwards biggest donors, he lives in Los Angeles, and he’s been in a very similar situation more than once.

Also … while it’s totally possible for JE to be the father, but for a woman that age to have a baby and not have the babydaddy name on the birth cert … anonymous sperm donor, anyone??? It’s not impossible. In fact, for a woman of a certain income bracket (e.g., doesn’t necessarily need a second income or child support from the father) who has what she believes to be a supportive network of family and friends, then it’s not at all unheard of to have a baby with an anonymous father. I’m just sayin.’

Thanks for answering my question even if you didn’t post my reply. Does this mean that all anonymous postings are different people? How do you know they aren’t who the say the are? I’m not being a smart ass. I’m not that knowledgable about blogs and how posts work. I didn’t know you could have more than one e-mail address to a user name.
It was rather unlucky of someone to get a 43y/o pergnant who had never had a baby. There are “change of life babies”. That can happen to anyone I suppose. Her sexual history would suggest that she has had numerous infections and female problems. That, along with drug use, would or should make it more difficult to get pregnant. Any one who has unprotected sex with her needs testing. She could have planned this child and used a donor. If so why doesn’t she say so? There are a lot of people being brought into this who may be innocent.
P.S. It is still stupid to drag your 7 mos pregnant mistress around Iowa with you 3-4 days before Christmas.
One more question. Responding to a previous post. What does this woman actually do for a living? She may be a film maker, but I don’t see her as that successful at it. Not to pay the prices you have to pay to live in California.

Commenter “Edith Ann” reminded me of the young men who were traveling with John and Rielle during the filming of those “Webisodes” back in 2006. I recall reading in Sam Stein’s Huffington Post article entitled “Edwards Mystery: Innocuous Videos Suddenly Shrouded in Secrecy” this excerpt:
“Who else was involved? Credits from the webisode still on the Business Week site listed three additional production assistants. One of them, Sam Cullman, said he could not talk to me but lauded Edwards for his openness. Another assistant, Nick Chatfield, said on the first call to my editor that he wished the movies were available because he could use the publicity. On the second call (having evidently checked back with Hunter or the Edwards campaign), Chatfield said, “Don’t call me again.”
I wonder if this means that Sam and Nick were the young men in the Webisodes? It certainly sounds like Nick is young and hungry for the publicity and resume-enhancement that he thought would result from working for the Edwards campaign. I also wonder if any reporter besides Sam Stein has ever interviewed them - it certainly seems like they both were quickly warned not to try and promote the Webisodes, much to the obvious disappointment of Nick (and Sam as well as the third assistant as well, I’m sure).
Sounds like a lot of questions should be asked. Not just for gossip. JE, even though he may not be in politics, wants to head a cause for poverty. I’m all for it and up until now I thought he was a good spokes person. If this is true, he is painful to look at. He has become every womans nightmare. A faithful husband for 29 years and then dumps his wife and children for some woman who is obviously a player. This tells women of all ages they are disposible. Young women won’t committ and older women will watch their husbands like a hawk. JE can’t ever take this woman back to his family and friends. #1 the wives won’t allow her around their husbands. They don’t want to end up like EE. Also, I don’t think anyone will give him money or support for this cause now. Halfinten needs a spokes person ASAP.
Kris, if you are a reporter, it appears you now have a lot of leads. Here’s another one. Robert McGovern, I have his # and address. I got it off of the internet. I don’t know if I’m allowed to publish it. It’s probably been disconnected any way. But I have it.
Rielle described to Extra TV how she met Edwards: “He was in a business meeting in New York, and I was in the same place”. That place, according to a statement she made in a Newsweek article was “a bar” and the time was some point in early 2006. After reading some articles today such as this New York Times article entitled “Edwards Says He Will Drop His Investments In Subprime Lenders” this excerpt is interesting:
“Mr. Edwards’s relationship with Fortress has become a recurring campaign issue. He worked as a consultant to the fund in 2005 and 2006, earning nearly $480,000 in 2006. He has received about $150,000 in campaign contributions from Fortress employees. And after becoming a Fortress consultant he shifted much of his family’s assets into Fortress funds.”

From this article and others I’ve gleaned that Edwards consulting contract with Fortress lasted from October 2005 until around December 2006. Edwards in many articles claims that this consulting gig was his main source of income at the time, and that this job would bring him to New York City frequently during this period of time because Fortress is based there. This makes me think that the self-described (from her own website) often in-debt and often broke Rielle was trolling bars where wealthy businessmen and hedge fund types frequent when she met Edwards. It appears likely that the “business meeting” Edwards was having at a bar when he met Rielle was a meeting that involved his fellow Fortress hedge fund workers and it is interesting to note that Fortress is quite a big player in the subprime lending field (see the above NYT article and countless others).
As a headsup, the print version of the National Enquirer has a photo of Bob McGovern.

Let me stop you right there. John Edwards was, is, and very much wants to continue to be in politics.

Response to JE wants to be and is in politics. He can want anything and hell can also freeze. If he doesn’t respond to this situation, he’s done. If he did it he’s done. He’s Old. in 8 years he’ll be 63. With all that sun he’ll probably look like hell. He’s done.
There’s an old rule in public relations:
Tell it all, tell it early and tell it yourself.
John Edwards ignored these, invented an elaborate ruse, destroyed all the evidence he coudl find, and exported entire families 3000 miles away to cover the truth.
This was the last ploy of a desperate man, and he’s about to realize its all over.
Not sure if this is an appropriate link for the following info regarding Andrew Young’s wife, Cheri; however, since this is the most recent Rielle/John Edwards related post, I figure I’ll just give it a go here.
Seems like Radar just did a piece mentioning rumors of Cheri Young’s growing dissatisfaction regarding the whole “love child” situation; thus, I figured I’d jump right in there with Radar and do a little Cheri googling/investigating and I’m pleased to report that it appears the hush/cover-up money (allegedly) being given to the (alleged) newly-minted Santa Barbara residents, Andrew and Cheri Young, may be able to be put to some very good use. It seems that back in December 2006 Young’s wife Cheri was up for an Oprah challenge. “…Andrew Young of Raleigh has worked with former Sen. John Edwards, who grew up in Robbins. Mickey Brown, the mayor of Robbins, received a call from Young’s wife asking for an unusual donation. Cheri Young, Andrew Young’s wife, was one of the audience members on Oprah a few weeks ago who received $1,000 and then turned it into more than $30,000 in cash and gifts to help the children of military families,” Brown said. “I know them, and she called me and I asked could she or would she help here. She has started and has raised money in conjunction with Clare Ruggles at Northern Moore Family Resource Center to help needy children here.”
Apparently Cheri was in the studio audience the day Oprah was road testing her “Big Give” show concept and gave each audience member a thousand dollars and challenged them to go out and do some good with it. It was even reported that Oprah wanted the audience to (according to the Washington Post) videotape their efforts at doing good with said money and to send the footage to her as material for a future show. I wonder if Cheri sent in any footage? Anyways, the main reason I bring this article up is that it shows how well-known and entrenched both Andrew and Cheri seemed to have been in North Carolina and I just can’t believe that they would up and move to Santa Barbara in order for Andrew to be closer to Rielle and “his” child.

Huffington Post has the affair on the front page. Supposedly, the picture is of JE and his new baby. You can’t really make out the picture. I wouldn’t hire these people as PI’s if they couldn’t do a better picture than this. It is a JE look a like that could be him but could also be someone else. The second picture has no reference points to indicate where it was taken. He appears to have a ballon in his hand, glasses on, and to have been sweating like he does after a run. He also looks a little younger than he does now in this picture. This picture could have been taken at one of his children’s bithday parties. I’ve seen a lot of pictures of him and this one is familar.
The first articles I read stated, he went to the meeting in a white shirt with rolled up cuffs. We’ve all seen him do this. In this picture, the man has on a blue T-shirt. JE has a blue T-shirt he has worn it before. He wore it in one of those Vids RH made. He wore it in Africa. And he wore it in pictures with his family at a later date. But the article made mention that he didn’t take anything into the hotel with him. Where did the T-shirt come from? Can we say photo shop or not JE’s T.
By the way, if the curtains are closed, someone in the room had to have taken the picture. It couldn’t have been with a telephoto lense, unless there are more windows in the room and those curtains were open. If the people in the room took it why didn’t they make sure you could recognize him without a doubt. After all if RH wanted a picture of JE and the baby you would think she would want a good one, unless the point of this is inuendo and too make a lot of money from the Enquirer. Follow the money, find out if the Enquier is paying her and her friends. Find out if the RNC or Swiftboaters are involved. After all the leads are followed and all roads lead to JE then acuse him. This is getting more and more interesting.
