This website is quite amusing. However, stickler for honesty that I am, I did want to point out there are ways of making silk without killing the silkworm, just so people know. I am not saying the bra in question was made this way, odds are it likely wasn’t, but I did want to point out that some silkmakers allow the silkworm to hatch from it’s cocoon, then salvage the remains of the cocoon for silkmaking. This cuts the production of silk down significantly as the single strand now only lasts to the end which the moth emerged from rather than being the entire cocoon length, but it can be done without harming the silkworm.

What gives you the idea that the rest of a mink’s body (or a fox’s, or a rabbit’s) is “wasted”? Just curious. I’m just guessing too, but it seems to me that farmers would rather see the animals rendered into dog food, or fish feed, or something else (and get paid for the protein), rather than having to pay someone else to dispose of it.

And isn’t the fat from minks boiled down into what the cosmetics industry calls “mink oil”? It’s supposed to be a heck of a skin emollient.

OK, I’m an animal rights activist but not a PETA member, I eat meat, I wear leather, but here’s were I differ from most animal rights activist the most: The way I see it, if you kill the animal then make use of the whole thing!

I don’t like furs because the animal is killed just for the fur and the rest of the body is wasted, now with leather, the skin is used, the meat is used, the bone is sometimes used, basically it’s not going to waste, if you kill an animal then use all of it you can, don’t waste it.

I didn’t know silk was made that way, I never liked silk in the first place (thus I don’t own any) but man, sucks to be one of the silk worms!

You’re like ripping these people down because they’re doing nice things, but they’re not nuns, get over yourself, im pretty sure that you’re kind of a hypocrite yourself, everyone is. People like Stella count on the ignorance and apathy of the public to get away with doing very hypocritical things. She only brings attention to it for a sales boost, a little cheap advertising, not realizing that there are people that are not ignorant or apathetic.

Once again the vegans are hypocrites for their brutal treatment of bugs! Why doesn’t PETA invest considerable time and money fighting the senseless slaughter of bugs? There are 900,000 known insect species (three times more than the rest of the animal kingdom combined). That’s 80 percent of the world’s species, and surely some of them are capable of feeling pain as they rocket into our windshields.
