Madonna & Gwyneth Paltrow Shun the Little People

Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow let them eat macrobiotic cake.

At a Gwyneth-hosted fundraiser for a horse-rescue charity that Madonna chairs, Madonna didn’t show and Gwyneth locked herself up indoors so she wouldn’t have to talk to any of the guests. Who were fleeced out of $2,500 for the privilege to rub elbows with some A-listers in the Hamptons.

How picky was Gwyn about her company? She even blew off Billy Joel’s wife. I’m sure nothing makes you feel like a groupie like that does.

The Park Avenue Princess emerged briefly from her hidey-hole to talk about Amaryllis Farm Equine Rescue’s work and Harry de Leyer, a Long Island riding instructor and volunteer at the charity:

“In saving the horse, Harry became an instrument of the divine,” said Paltrow. “When we make the only choice possible, and that is to love, then all of us become what we were intended to be. We are the power.”

That’s great and all, but what about pasting on a smile and using her star power to raise a few bucks for a good cause? Because she sure as shiz wasn’t picked to host for her winning personality.

Why Are Americans Paying This Guy’s Senate Salary Through November?

I suppose the same mostly holds true for Barack Obama (who I learned today is in the pocket of the tire-pressure gauge industry — really!), but I’ll let the one-two punch of New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman and the fun folks at MoveOn.org illustrate the point.

John McCain threw a Geritol seizure last week because the U.S. Congress was “on vacation” instead of voting on energy independence. And guess who has missed every single vote on the subject? Yep.

Here’s Friedman:

John McCain recently tried to underscore his seriousness about pushing through a new energy policy, with a strong focus on more drilling for oil, by telling a motorcycle convention that Congress needed to come back from vacation immediately and do something about America’s energy crisis. “Tell them to come back and get to work!” McCain bellowed.

Sorry, but I can’t let that one go by. McCain knows why.

It was only five days earlier, on July 30, that the Senate was voting for the eighth time in the past year on a broad, vitally important bill — S. 3335 — that would have extended the investment tax credits for installing solar energy and the production tax credits for building wind turbines and other energy-efficiency systems …  Senator McCain did not show up for the crucial vote on July 30, and the renewable energy bill was defeated for the eighth time. In fact, John McCain has a perfect record on this renewable energy legislation. He has missed all eight votes over the last year — which effectively counts as a no vote each time. Once, he was even in the Senate and wouldn’t leave his office to vote.

(Side note to the New York Times editors: I just properly cited your people’s work. Wasn’t that hard.)

And here’s the very funny MoveOn.org contribution to the discussion. I thought they moved on years ago, but apparently they’re still kickin’ it.

Yet Another Rielle-Related Site Vanishes

Yesterday the Newark Star-Ledger tried to talk to Rielle Hunter’s old business partner Mimi Hockman (pictured), as I recommended almost two weeks ago. They approached Hockman at her home in New Jersey, but she wasn’t too cooperative. Which isn’t surprising at this point. Nor is this (emphasis mine):

Mary “Mimi” Hockman, who lives in South Orange, partnered with Rielle Hunter on Midline Groove Productions, the video production company that had a $100,000-plus contract to produce a series of videos for the Edwards campaign in 2006…

More information about Midline Groove was scarce yesterday. While the “webisodes” Hunter made following Edwards on the campaign trail are now getting wide internet circulation, the website for Midline Groove itself has been taken down.

Hey, whaddaya know, I just so happened to save a copy of midlinegroove.com. (How did I guess it might disappear one day?) There’s not much to the site. Just this logo:

Followed by this text:

Midline Groove is a full-service production company committed to projects that reveal truth — the authentic aspects of humanity that are right here and most often overlooked. Creating short and feature length documentaries for the web, broadcast, and big screen, the company was established in 2006 by producing partners Rielle Hunter and Mimi Hockman.

For more information, contact the production office

With a hyperlink that doesn’t work now, so I don’t know if it was an e-mail link or what. Followed by this logo:

That’s it. No pics, no other hyperlinks, no incriminating evidence of an illegitimate baby or surreptitious cash payments… nothing. The only thing notable about it, as far as I can tell, is that they named their company after the indentation in the middle of your upper lip. (Is that where the cocaine tends to collect?) That and the whole thing about “revealing truth,” which apparently is no longer a priority.

But now the site has gone down the memory hole, along with Rielle’s site, Bob McGovern’s resume and contact info, and who knows what else. If John Edwards is telling the whole truth, why does information about people who might be able to confirm his story keep disappearing from the Internet?

Well, mimihockman.com is still up. For now.

(Hat tip: Jane)

In other John & Rielle news: The Enquirer has a whole new mess of allegations. So far they’ve been doing fairly well on this story, so let’s see what Edwards has to say in response. If anything.

P.S. If you want to confirm the contents of the Midline Groove site for yourself, or you’re a New York Times reporter and you want to steal some more of my work with plausible deniability, the Google cache is here.

P.P.S. Maybe this is why the NYT can’t afford to do their own research anymore: Times Co. bonds are close to falling to junk status.

Here’s where the rest of today’s J&R updates will go:

Deceiver.tv

I mentioned it yesterday, but I wanted to say thanks again to Liz Stephans and Scott Baker at Breitbart.tv. On Monday’s edition of their daily live Web show The B-Cast (archived here), they devoted their first 30 minutes to the deleted-from-the-Web-but-recovered Bob McGovern/Being Is Free material that I haven’t shut up about for weeks, what it means in the context of the John & Rielle story, and how the New York Times and ABC News are a bunch of lazy, research-stealing slobs. (They didn’t put it in those exact terms, but I just did.)

And get this: The B-Cast credited us! What a refreshing chance of pace.

They also took a live look at the html pages from beingisfree.org that I sent them, so you can see what the site looks like for yourself. Once you do, you’ll understand why somebody in the Edwards camp wanted it gone. I gave a partial description of the site here and here, but there’s no substitute for seeing it yourself.

Plus, they talked about the whole pronunciation issue, which I’m still unclear on. “Ree-elle”? “Riley”? “Real”? I like “Real,” just for the irony.

Anyway, they did a great job of breaking the whole thing down and explaining it. (They even laughed at a couple of my jokes! Okay, one joke. I’ll take what I can get.) And they’re fun to watch. Good rapport. Sort of like Regis & Kelly, if Regis & Kelly had laptops in front of them and functioning brains implanted in their heads.

So, thanks very much to Breitbart.tv. Again, you can watch it here.

P.S. And to answer their question: I’m a dude, Holly’s a chick, and the Oversneer is… we’re still not sure!
