Why Are Americans Paying This Guy’s Senate Salary Through November?

I suppose the same mostly holds true for Barack Obama (who I learned today is in the pocket of the tire-pressure gauge industry — really!), but I’ll let the one-two punch of New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman and the fun folks at MoveOn.org illustrate the point.

John McCain threw a Geritol seizure last week because the U.S. Congress was “on vacation” instead of voting on energy independence. And guess who has missed every single vote on the subject? Yep.

Here’s Friedman:

John McCain recently tried to underscore his seriousness about pushing through a new energy policy, with a strong focus on more drilling for oil, by telling a motorcycle convention that Congress needed to come back from vacation immediately and do something about America’s energy crisis. “Tell them to come back and get to work!” McCain bellowed.

Sorry, but I can’t let that one go by. McCain knows why.

It was only five days earlier, on July 30, that the Senate was voting for the eighth time in the past year on a broad, vitally important bill — S. 3335 — that would have extended the investment tax credits for installing solar energy and the production tax credits for building wind turbines and other energy-efficiency systems …  Senator McCain did not show up for the crucial vote on July 30, and the renewable energy bill was defeated for the eighth time. In fact, John McCain has a perfect record on this renewable energy legislation. He has missed all eight votes over the last year — which effectively counts as a no vote each time. Once, he was even in the Senate and wouldn’t leave his office to vote.

(Side note to the New York Times editors: I just properly cited your people’s work. Wasn’t that hard.)

And here’s the very funny MoveOn.org contribution to the discussion. I thought they moved on years ago, but apparently they’re still kickin’ it.

So the Republicans (tend) to be in the pockets of “Big Oil” and the Democrats in the pocket of the “Green Movement”. Both industries, both money makers, both lining the pockets of politicians.

Is this what they call a “Gotcha” moment? I’ve been hearing that all throughout this campaign season and I was never really sure.

Maybe McCain decided not to show up since he was going to say “nay” anyway.

I love that at the end of the MODO video they say they are not funded or associated with any political organization……Uhhh, Hillary Clinton was the one who founded and funded the organization.

Good grief - all that posturing and the man cannot even be bothered to vote - not even once. Now that is a hypocrite.

Which one are we making fun of again?

To me it seems that anyone running for a political office while they are still in a political office should resign or be forced to execute thier duties and if unable to do so then they should be asked to step down.

Not only do I often have thoughts similar to Aleric’s when it’s campaign time (for instance, my US senator was busy most of last year and the early part of this year trying to get on the Democratic ticket … you can guess who she is), I - and this is no matter who the president is - have always felt that the taxpayers’ having to foot the bill for an incumbent president when he goes campaigning for re-election in Air Force One is BS. Particularly if they didn’t vote for him. Same goes for the veep and AF Two.
More on topic, who else is sick to death of the campaign … and was six months ago as well? Pity we don’t have one of those governments where you have six weeks or something to campaign, once elections are announced. They have their own problems, to be sure, but annoying voters to death probably isn’t one of them.

When Motorcycles are primarily run on solar power we can call McCain a hypocrite. Otherwise, wind and solar will be a gigantic, ugly, (bird killing, in the case of wind), money pit until the tech to store the power improves. Granted there’s an article out there about storing solar power in chemical cells but we’re not sure if it’ll work yet.

Oil, on the other hand, works quite well, and lo and behold, the US has a ton of it. Of course, we couldn’t possibly USE any of it, because that would despoil a (pathetically tiny) portion of our pristine frozen mudball … I mean gorgeous wilderness.

Of course, we can “despoil” countries like Canada and Mexico without batting an eye by using their oil. Gotta fuel the Goracles private jet somehow eh?

His free ride lasted way longer than that POW stint… I think America’s more than paid him back by now; so can we concentrate on the prisoners of war still held captive and stuck in this ridiculous so called war in Iraq. There’s no way I’d vote for this man. Not to mention his ties to the Budweiser company through his ‘Barbie Old Spice’ wife. Alcoholism is a major problem in this country and especially in the military…and I bet he won’t touch that subject.
