Well, not in so many words. But he just dropped out of that speaking engagement at Hofstra University he’d planned for next week, and he’s not doing any other public appearances until after — can you guess? — November. And here’s the reason he’s giving:
“Nothing is more important than electing Barack Obama and Joe Biden,” Edwards said in a statement released Thursday by his booking agency, the Harry Walker Agency in Manhattan. “I don’t want my appearance at these events to be a distraction from the important issues of the election, or from the important purpose of these meetings.”
It’s only a half-truth, but for him that’s a 100% increase. (Or is it? I stink at math.) He could have said he’s going to “spend more time with his family,” but that would only invite the question: “Which one?”
Hey, wait a sec… I thought Edwards was a private citizen? I thought this scandal had absolutely nothing to do with Obama? But there it is in black and white gray and slightly lighter gray: Edwards just went out of his way to link himself to Obama. Otherwise, why would appearing in public be a distraction from Obama’s campaign?
Which only lends more credence to the theory that the entire news industry turned a blind eye to the Rielle Hunter story for so long because they were worried it might screw up the election.

Elizabeth is a victim of a deceitful man - her husband John Edwards. It does look as if the emergency order on the motion to seal the divorce papers was denied today according to the Alaska court document. What this means in regard to Palin is anybody’s guess, but on first blush, not so complimentary unless the Enquirier is just blowing smoke.

Plus, the plane, while it was used for the former Governor, was also used by the state for other purposes. It wasn’t just a personal jet for the ex-Gov’s exclusive use.

Don’t count on Elizabeth Edwards helping John to rehab himself. I agree she needs to protect the money she helped earn from the golddigger RH (maifest destiny I believe she said. I agree, Wooten was a jerk to Tazer the kid. But apparently Bristol and the other cousins were in the room when he did it. Wooten had it on the lowest setting and they all thought it was hilarious. Afterwards, they told the Mom, Sarah and the rest of the family. At the time they all thought it was a hoot. It ONLY became an issue much later, when he and Sarah’s sister were embroiled in a nasty divorce/custody battle. If they were so outraged over the incident, why didn’t they report Wooten at the time?
Sarah Palin seems to have a pattern in which she tries to get rid of people she dislikes or people who disagree with her or who won’t do what she wants. She fired the police chief. She fired the librarian, then had to back down in the face of community opposition. She wanted Monegan fired because he wouldn’t fire the trooper after he had already been disciplined. There’s also another state employee that her husband wanted gone. Apparently the only people Palin wants around her are cheerleaders and brown noses.

And Wooten was punished. End of story. Again, you may not like the punishment he got, only a five day suspension. But that’s what he got.
Trying to get Wooten fired on old accusations for which he had already been punished doesn’t strike me as too bright either.

About Palin’s vetting: it wasn’t that extensive. She only told the McCain people that her daughter was pregnant on Wednesday–and it had been common knowledge in Alaska for months. I read an article in the ADN where many top Repubs in the state were calling each other asking if anyone in the McCain camp had called them prior to her nomination. They all professed ignorance.

Excellent article. After reading about Wooten I am 100% convinced Palin should have fired every senior office in the State Police.

Independent of the valid single argument that he should’ve been immediately dismissed for tasering a 10 year old child, let’s consider the drinking on duty argument.
I understand that if you lived one of two municipalities with a history of some tolerance for naughty police behavior or outright corruption, you may not understand that drinking alcohol while on duty is a huge no-no, but in almost every police department other than Chicago or New Orleans, that will get you fired immediately also:

Jrd, cite me on instance where I have “lied”. Just one. And back it up, not just with your venom. I thought the Baby Trig was crapola. Never said otherwise. What I did say is that it was very odd for a woman leaking aminiotic fluid to go on an eight hour plane ride and then take a long drive to a hospital. I’ve had three kids–I had the same problem–my doctor had me going to her office and the hospital for close to a MONTH before I delivered. Yeah, A MONTH. But I sure as hell didn’t go on no freaking airplane.
Snoop, I have no control over what the rest of the country does. If the rest of the country wants a repeat of Bush-Cheney, then let em’. I never underestimate the ability of people to vote against their own best interests.
Fortunate Son, the point is, which you seem to keep missing, is that Sarah Palin did not have the authority to fire Wooten. She fired Monegan (which was in her authority) because he couldn’t fire Wooten based on old charges for which Wooten had already been punished. It’s not that Monegan wouldn’t fire Wooten–he couldn’t. His hands were tied. I don’t know what is so hard to understand about that. Wooten is still on the job. Repeat: Wooten is still on the job and by accounts, doing a good job.
Bruce, to fire every senior Police Official is kinda like amputating your legs because you don’t have any shoes. Think about it.
As for vicious, vile rumours, I’ve heard quite a doozy regarding Track Palin, but I won’t repeat it–one, it’s unsubstantiated, and two, it’s unsubstantiated. And I’ve heard quite a few regarding the Obamas, and I won’t repeat them either for the same reasons.
However, I do say this: when it came to John Edwards, no rumour, no gossip, no idle speculation was left untouched.
When it came to the Clintons, no smear was too low: Hilary killed Vince Foster, Clinton fathered a child out of wedlock, etc. The smear machine was in full swing.
Now, when concerned people ask legitmate questions about how Palin governs, how she was vetted, this apparent abuse of power, her misstatements, her role in the AIP, etc., we get slammed.
Okay to savage John Edwards, but hands off Sarah Palin.
That would be a good one to back up. And it might calm you down a bit to remember that we were one of the only blogs even talking about the Edwards story for three weeks. Do you think Deceiver is the only place you can discuss the latest debunked Sarah Palin rumor? Or has been, since about 10 seconds after McCain brought her onstage?
Facts, rumors, what’s the difference, right? Again: It’s obvious that this woman is the target of a smear campaign. “The other 70 unsubstantiated rumors about her this week fell through, but this one is gold!” I, for one, refuse to be duped into it, and trying to link it to the solid facts we found on Edwards is bizarre.
Do as you like, but the more you protest our supposed hypocrisy, the less inclined I am to assist you.
As the governor, Palin was the highest ranked employee in the whole state and had authority to fire any employee who was not an elected official. As the commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard, she simultaneously had a lot of authority to fire federal employees also, should she have chosen to do so.
She’s not the first governor to fire a cop for good cause and she won’t be the last.
There may be dirt on Palin yet, but its not in Troopergate, its not in her faking her pregnancy, and its not in her husband’s past business partner’s non-sealed divorce paperwork.
Finally, the John Edwards Love Child scandal had a 10 month MSM news blackout followed by an admission. Many Hillary Clinton followers believe the news blackout specifically changed the course of the election and ultimate Democratic nominee, an argument with merit that can never be proven true nor false.
The simple truth is that had Edwards not admitted to having a love child, and had the MSM continued to sit on its hands, the Sarah Palin faked pregnancy and child pregnancy stories could never have even been discussed.

Find me the list of Deceiver “facts” that are in fact ‘untrue’ about John Edwards? I can find about 12 things that ended up not being true in La Times about Palin in the last 3 weeks. Which is funny, because that is the ammount of time they ignored the Edwards story…
It never ceases to amaze me, how stupid these politicians are! There’s no way in h**l you would catch me running for public office, because I, like most people, do have skeletons in my closet… and if you ask me, that’s exactly where they need to stay! lol People running for these political offices, especially something like the President of the United States, should be expecting for all of their dirty deeds to be exposed. What gets me is, they seem to think they can lie their way out of it, or at least tell enough half-truths to, “make it all okay”. I know we have all made mistakes in our lives, but come on, some of these scandals are just plain ridiculous!
