Lynne Spears’s first foray into publishing is so not a parenting book! I feel deceived.
There were rumors that the tenor of Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World was going to change after news of Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy broke last winter.
But apparently the change was more drastic than anticipated, as it became a page-turning exposé about Britney’s wild behavior as a teen:
In a tell-all book, Spears’ mother, Lynne, reveals her daughter surrendered her chastity to a high school football stud when she was just 14.
Mama Spears, 53, also dishes that the pop icon took a liking to booze when she was a 13-year-old Mouseketeer and began experimenting with drugs at 15.
By age 16, Britney’s wild-child behavior stunned her family when she was caught with cocaine and marijuana on a private jet, Lynn Spears claims.
And there’s more!
Lynne Spears, 53, confesses her regret of losing control of Britney’s career to handlers who promoted her as a sex object and put her in raunchy videos.
She admits she allowed her then 16-year-old daughter to sleep with Timberlake, her Mickey Mouse Club co-star, and went along with the hoax that Britney was a virgin.
Timberlake had shattered the fair-maiden myth in 2003, blabbing to reporters, “She lost her virginity a while ago - and I should know.” He also told Barbara Walters that he gave Britney her first kiss.
Lynne Spears reveals Timberlake was misled and that Britney lost her virginity to a Kentwood, La., high school football player.
Insisting Britney is even more messed up than we originally suspected is probably not the best way to shepherd along that reported reconciliation with her daughter. Haven’t enough people capitalized on the poor girl’s fame?

“…confesses her regret of losing control of Britney’s career to handlers who promoted her as a sex object and put her in raunchy videos”
I think control was lost way before that according to this. I’m a better ‘parent’ to my cat.
When you’re depending on your child’s income to support a family, you can’t exactly tell them what to do. She tells Britney not to sleep around or do drugs, she loses her meal ticket. So what if B. loses her mind, they had a spare in Jamie Lynn … until she “decided to start her family early” and shun Hollywood.
All families are screwed up to some degree, the Spears just showed their troubles in a spotlight.
And once again Lynne Spears proves what a great parent she is by telling all the drity little secrets about her daughter
The moment I found her experimenting with drugs and alcohol the show would have been over!
Wow…I didn’t think I’d be surprised, but I really am. So, dear momma is selling a book that’s a tell all expose of her daughter’s troubled childhood, when she’s the one who should have been trying to prevent it? What next, a “tell all” book for profit by a mother who beats her daughter, giving us all the juicy details about how horrible the kids life was?
I like how the whole thing is positioned as if we’re supposed to feel sorry for the MOTHER.
How trashy can you get when you whore yourself out to the world by discussing your troubled daughter’s private life? Trashy hardly touches what that woman is.
Oh, and the best part is that the same Christian publisher, Thomas Nelson, is still sinking low enough to put the damn thing out. I can’t wait for the next one in this series, which I’m sure will be Joe Simpson’s step-by-step on how to run a youth group while pimping your daughters.
Yippee!
Thanks for reminding all of America why putting your kid in showbiz is such a bad idea.
Something similar happened with Leif Garrett and his mom. Since Leif was the family breadwinner, Mom had to go along with whatever he did, whether it was booze or drugs or bringing in his then-girlfriend Nicolette Sheridan to shack up with him at the ripe old age of 16.
so when will Lynne Spears and Dina Lohan be on Celebrity Death Match? Oh, wait, that’s not on any more, is it? Well it should be!
trying to profit off her daughter’s hard childhood it seems like.. that really is sad.
Sad doesn’t even begin to cover it. Pathetic is more like it. Both Lynne Spears and Dina Lohan have been able to live comfortably off their daughters’ labors. Instead of being parents, they have been managers and best friends. Then it’s some sort of big, Scooby Doo mystery when their kids have flown off the rails.
I shouldn’t be surprised by Lynn’s horrible lack of judgment. Let’s see, Britney has been estranged from them for a while - granted, part of it was due to drug use and mental illness - so what’s the brilliant thing to do when you are working on repairing your relationship? That’s right, pimp out the details of her life for more money.
On the plus side, she and Dina can keep each other company in their special, vip circle of hell.
Oh man. I miss Celebrity Death Match.
And I have to say, watching Britney go through all this so publically made my heart break. I had a nervous break down in college, and it was hard enough to crawl back to a normal life -without- all the insanity of a media circus following every move. I just hope she can take lessons from her troubles.
Like, for starters, her mother is a bitch.
Oh man that photo of Lynn Spears is makin me HOT!
FAP FAP FAP!
Unfortunately, I’m not suprised about Britney losing her virginity at 14. I read about it a year ago in a Tabloid(forgot which magazine it was. )I’m also not suprised that Lynne decided to do this.
This is a parenting book Deceiver. It’s a Bizzaro World parenting book. Somehow it escaped their world and into ours. Now just do the exact opposite of this book and you should be a fine parent.
What a heartwarming tale. I’ll keep her bang-up parenting skills in mind for when I pop out a rugrat.
Britney Spears has done her share of wrong. Yes, she did drugs and lie about being a virgin, but even still I feel so badly for this woman.
This girl had no hope of growing up normal, and I always to an extent placed blame on her mother’s parenting skills, even when I hated Britney Spears.
This is a whole new level of tacky. What is this? “I encouraged my daughter to be promiscuous and do drugs, but when her career backfired, I decided to confess to the media about her latent tumultuous lifestyle”?
She is her MOTHER, and it’s really hurtful when your own mother, who should love you unconditionally and who you should trust, decides to exploit you while you’re finally beginning to make progress.
With a mother willing to do this to her, can there be any question why Brit is so messed up? She has my complete sympathy from here on out. Poor girl.
Guess she figured she had to do this now, get some bucks. Wonder if she’ll be on Oprah explaining how it was all too, too, tragic for HER?
This crap about these women who are their daughter’s “best friend” — have you noticed most of the time when someone says that it’s bec. the mom is trying very, very hard NOT to be a grown-up and/or a mom? And then look at the daughter, who is probably out partying late, drinking, experimenting with drugs and sex — at age 14. While Mom claims “oh, but we’re best friends, she tells me everything!” Oh, please.
The picture makes it look like the title of the book should be…
“The Dressed Up Hillbilly”
“Will I Ever Get My Car Off Those Blocks?”
Or
“Checkin’ My Still”
“My Life Vs. The Revenooers.”
I think the saddest part is Brit’s mom feel’s sorry for herself that she was a crappy parent. So sorry for herself that she had to write a book so we all could feel sorry for her too.
Money must be running out if pushing this rubbish. Isn’t she supposed to ‘helping’ her daughter?! How is digging up the past ‘helping’? No, it’s making more money for mama now that Jaime has left the building…
This entire mess is completely disgusting. Brit has been through so much in her life… yes, some of it was due to her poor choices, but some of it, obviously, comes from the way she was raised and the things she was taught early in life. Now, she (Brit) is working hard to get healthy and learn better ways to deal with life. She’s trying hard to be the mother that she knows her sons need and deserve. Give the poor girl a break! There is no betrayal like that which comes from your own mother… how, horribly, sad!
