Well, apparently Deceiver is run by neocon hypocrites because we’re afraid to reveal the truth about Sarah Palin’s plan to throw Eskimos onto piles of burning books, bought with the money she stole from the Bridge to Nowhere and orphanages for the disabled, with help from her inbred family and secessionist, anti-Semitic friends. I’m sure I left something out there. Since August 29 there have been so many uninformed accusations and outright lies leveled at her, I’m reluctant to believe anything else people say about her until everybody calms down. This is crying wolf to the Nth degree.
We may or may not discuss further developments in this story, and we’re under no obligation one way or the other. Unlike the Rielle Hunter story, Deceiver is hardly the only place talking about this. As I have to keep repeating, apparently, the main reason I dug into that story so hard was because I wanted to know more, but the news completely ignored it for weeks on end. Whereas with the Palin story, you can’t avoid hearing about it, and it’s been that way from the start. They are fundamentally different stories, and if you still don’t understand why I reject the comparison, I don’t know what to tell you.
How about this: In both cases I want to know the truth. With Hunter, that was tough because there was no information. With Palin, it’s tough because there’s too much disinformation.
But if you simply must discuss the latest Palin smear in the comments, adding to the search-engine numbers for things like “You-Know-Who was a community organizer,” first please go to Factcheck.org’s list of Palin rumors and misleading claims. From what little I know of Factcheck, it’s a non-partisan site that’s respected on both the left and right. Here’s their summary so far:
- Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She didn’t cut it at all. In fact, she tripled per-pupil funding over just three years.
- She did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the time. The librarian has said Palin asked a “What if?” question, but the librarian continued in her job through most of Palin’s first term.
- She was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants Alaskans to vote on whether they wish to secede from the United States. She’s been registered as a Republican since May 1982.
- Palin never endorsed or supported Pat Buchanan for president. She once wore a Buchanan button as a “courtesty” when he visited Wasilla, but shortly afterward she was appointed to co-chair of the campaign of Steve Forbes in the state.
- Palin has not pushed for teaching creationism in Alaska’s schools. She has said that students should be allowed to “debate both sides” of the evolution question, but she also said creationism “doesn’t have to be part of the curriculum.”
They then explain in detail how they came to these conclusions, and they’re promising to add more information as they continue to research the unprecedented explosion of rumors over the past week and a half. So I encourage you to consult Factcheck before you go around spreading this stuff. If that’s somehow an unreasonable request, I’m sure I’ll hear about it.
And if that doesn’t quench your thirst for justice, Factcheck also has a page of stuff Palin messed up during her acceptance speech. They also “fact check” something that I thought was clearly a joke by Mike Huckabee. But then, it’s not called HumorAppreciate.org.
Okay? Okay.
Update: If you need a brand name before you’ll believe it, Newsweek is republishing Factcheck’s findings.
Update 2: Snopes has a Palin page. And she’s their #1 search result, which is heartening. That means a lot of people are trying to do the fact-checking that the n-e-w-s hasn’t.

Where’s the hypocrisy here? First Jordin Sparks, now this. Love you guys though.
You must feel like you are in the minority…intelligent, looking for the truth and a journalist. Wow, I am impressed.
More of a housekeeping issue, Rocko. Bear with us.
Everything I hear about Sarah Palin in the papers seems to give off an air of exaggeration anyways. I feel pretty bad for her. The big reason the gossip sniper scope is pointed so obsessively at her is that she’s a woman. I’m sure they could dig up a crapload of stuff on Biden, but they choose not to.
At least Simon didn’t bring up Bristol again. One less time I need to resist quoting Juno.
I miss the old deciever..:(
but yes, I agree you
Don’t Worry Simon, there will be 70 more myths to debunk next week…then again, maybe something will stick and you will have a story. Who knows?
You are absolutely correct that you have been silent about all the rumors that are unfounded about the other candidates despite the fact that it has been requested in the comments many times. Good for you for not giving into the pressure to produce even if it’s crap.
Since I can’t help myself, Kimberly, do you really believe the media is sniping on her because she is a woman? Or is it because Palin, up until two weeks ago, was an unknown entity outside of Alaska? Did the gossip snipers train their sights this much on Clinton? And, as Jon Stewart pointed out last week (check out earlier posts on this site for that vignette) playing the sexism card is kind of silly. Sarah Palin herself said it means you just have to try harder.
I do agree with Anonymous. I miss the old Deceiver. While you kind of brought this all on yourself by your dogged investigation of Edwards, you can go back to making fun of PETA and dumb celebrities.
Please?
Bless you, voice of moderation. And I’m sure we’ll get more Petards etc as well as political stuff…it’s just the sudden boom and bust cycle of an election year. Right?
“Brought it on yourself…” So because I did the work on the Rielle Hunter story that the media couldn’t or wouldn’t, I’m wrong not to pursue every single rumor they’re hurling at Palin. Impeccable logic.
And if you miss the old Deceiver, please feel free to visit our 10 months of archives. It’s all still there for your nostalgic pleasure.
Some folks are just mad because Deceiver was all over that slippery John Edwards. There are no reports on Obama The Sekret Mooslim or Michelle Obama’s “whitey” rumor either, so chill.
That isn’t my logic. Judging from the comments sections that include missives for you to post stories on Obama, Biden, Palin and McCain, I think extensive political reporting is now expected from you on any “scandal” that pops up. Considering your reporting played a huge part in pushing the Edwards story into the MSM, you are now looked at as a source for busting politicos. Sorry, I don’t make the rules……
And again, you left out the first part of my statement, which applauded you for not giving in and reporting crap just because the public was pushing for it. You’ve made it clear that isn’t your gig and I respect you for it.
The link to factcheck.org was perfect. I often refer folks to that sight as well.
Another non-partisan link for those who are voting on facts is http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/
Hopefully, for your sake, this topic will be dead.
Queen Bee: I doubt you’re really paying attention. Biden was arguably more unknown than Palin. He’s a senator. She’s a governor. Twice as many senators than governors, sweetie. What I’m saying is: how come just-as-new Biden didn’t have the media hounding everything he’s done, fact or fiction?
But still. Why can’t we all take a break from politics for a while and poke fun at Miley Cyrus or PETA or something?
Well I for one quite enjoy the Deceiver, both new and old. Although I kind of cringe for fear of what a candidate will do next. Keep up the good work, thanks.
“Sorry, I don’t make the rules……”
But you’re making a damn fine effort, Queen Bee!
Sarah Palin: Men love her, and women want to be her.
Ha!
I get Simon’s point. The MSM ignored the whole Edwards/Hunter story – I swear, reporters probably had their fingers in their ears going “la-la-la-la”.
The instant Palin was announced – before she even had a chance to SPEAK, fer cryin’ out loud – she was blasted by the Democrats AND the MSM with so many negative stories, you’d think the woman was the Devil himself.
Personally, considering all the vitriol directed at Palin along with the intensity and the speed at which it was delivered…I think the Democrats are scared of her.
This campaign is going to be very entertaining.
As long as we’re cleaning house, where is Hi Heels Lo Life and the non-liberal non-fear mongering Sarah Palin v. First Amendment rights speak?
You’re right, Queen Bee, and I apologize for snapping at you.
I was very surprised (though I shouldn’t have been) at people’s reactions towards Palin.
I never saw the Edwards story as Democratic vs. Republican story but rather just a corrupt, egomaniac politician that the press wouldn’t touch.
I still do not hear anyone excited that regardless who wins a glass ceiling will have been shattered. That should be a story…
A woman becoming Vice President isn’t necessarily smashing a glass ceiling, and in this case it certainly feels more like tokenism and less like feminism, if we want to throw “-isms” in the picture. Arguably, one of the reasons McCain chose Palin was to get some of the female voters who had been supporting Hillary. His thought was apparently that chicks will vote for anything with a vagina, regardless of her views. Putting a woman who would do something for women in this country, and for this country in general, would be shattering a glass ceiling. Sarah Palin does not seem like the type to encourage equal pay for equal work, or legalized abortion, or sex education in schools–the “feminine” voting issues. Thinking that Sarah Palin in the White House is a step forward for womankind is like thinking that putting ONE black guy on 90210 solves our race wars.
Anon – now who’s pigeonholing females? I thought the ‘women vote based on sex issues like abortion’ issue was put to bed when white women started voting majority Republican. The polls I’ve seen over the last few years put national security and the economy on the top of everyone’s lists, including women.
It was Democrats assuming that they would keep women in line with the abortion issue alone that has led them to this point.
Sweetie darling, maybe you had never heard of Joe Biden before he was announced as a VP candidate. Other people might have. He first was elected to the Senate in 1972, sugar lumps. Additionally, pooky, he ran for President of the United States in 1988 and was a relatively strong candidate until he got busted for plagarism (Rumor is, he hasn’t quit this habit.) as well as 2008. During his Senate career, he has been on very visible committees, darling, such as the Judiciary and Foreign relations. Like him or not, schnookums, Biden has been a pretty big player on the political scene for 35 years.
However, lamby kins, if Sarah Palin was such a visible player, why was the mainstream press so blown away by her selection? Her name wasn’t mentioned by anyone, at least in the msm, up until just before she was announced as McCain’s running mate, doll. Her newness on the scene, schmoopsy, is just one of many whacky theories that I and some other folks have for the complete feeding frenzy surrounding her candidacy. Well, that and some weird that she’s done, cookie.
I hope my post is as respectful as yours was!
With a first wave of 30 Dem operatives hitting the frozen ground of little Wasilla, there is little more that the rest of us can ferret out behind our screens here in warmer latitudes.
The glam media will push all the cozy, mommy, lifestyle cover stories of this phenom and the muckers (with paid informants and no shortage of political enemies there) will muck the other end. Either way, this woman SELLS, baby!!!
I admit, the woman may not seem like a cosmopolitan brain-trust, and no one can be live up to the saintly image some are painting of her…BUT… I wonder how the O-Man would/could have survived this much imminent attention to minutiae. Same goes for his side-kick, Plugs (The we could all play “Spot the Plagiarism” and it’d really lift the literacy level of the comments!
)
Queen Bee, whatever weird [censored] she’s alleged to have done, do you agree that we should be skeptical at this point that she actually did it? Given the overwhelming deluge of rumors, I mean. That’s not an accident, and it’s making me take a wait-and-see attitude.
Hey Anon-I think there’s a Shakespeare sonnet looking for you-but that’s not important right now. What is important is that you couldn’t be more wrong. Before McCain picked Palin I was either going to write in Ron Paul or “Get Drunk and Vote for McCain”. I am a conservative first with some Libertarian leanings and McCain just wasn’t cutting it. He brought Palin aboard to attract people of my philosophy, not color or gender. Why does a woman like you think that another (obviously liberal) woman needs to do something for you anyway? Could you have looked up to a woman who rode her husband’s semen stained coat-tails to the Presidency? That’s hardly a pioneer.
Feminists: supporting a woman’s right to believe like them.
Feminism: Its what’s for dinner.
I’m not so sure you can burn Eskimos, and books on the same pile. Books ignite much faster, but Eskimos burn longer. Best to keep ‘em separate.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, oh, Queen Bee, you told Kimberely off real good!
Listen up, “Kimbo”, calling Queen Bee “sweetie” doesn’t make her opinion any less valid or yours any more important or correct, instead, it makes you sound unnecessarily condescending.
PS: Apparently, the term “eskimo” is quite derogatory and they prefer to be called “Inuits”!
You learn something new each day :]
And Simon, before you ask me to give you a link for that claim, I’m sorry, I can’t, my history teacher told me and she doesn’t lie. She’s like, 60.
I just love all the assumptions that because I don’t think making a big deal about putting a woman into the White House counts as breaking a glass ceiling. Now I’m obviously female, obviously liberal–god forbid someone be moderate and asexual on a forum when it’s so easy for people to assign whatever labels make them comfortable.
I don’t like Hillary. I don’t like Palin. I believe I used quotation marks when describing these sex-related voting issues as “feminine.” Look, there, I did it again!! Because, D, you’re right, as times have changed, so have the “feminine” issues, and yes, more women are voting Republican. My mistake. However, I still stand by the argument that having a woman in the White House isn’t any more a step forward than if Obama wins, because a) Doing it once is groundbreaking, sure, but if it doesn’t continue, then it was for naught, and b) If they fuck it up, I guarantee you a good chunk of Americans will blame it on the fact that she’s a woman and he’s black. My point had nothing to do with one side or the other, simply that people put too much stock into doing “the right/progressive/whatever” thing ONCE, and then believing that satisfies some sort of requirement. See Vogue’s issue of only black models, for example. Now they’re free to use white models again until someone bitches about them only using white models. I’d say they’ve won at least a year.
And just for pinandpuller….I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what sonnet you might have meant, but try this on for size:
“Thy husband is thy lord, thy life, thy keeper,
Thy head, thy sovereign, one that cares for thee,
And for thy maintence commits his body
To painful labor both by sea and land,
To watch the night in storms, the day in cold,
Whilst though liest warm at home, secure and safe,
And craves no other tribute at thy hands
But love, fair looks, and true obedience-
Too little payment for so great a debt.
Such duty as the subject owes the prince,
Even such a woman oweth to her husband;
And when she is froward, peevish, sullen, sour,
And not obedient to his honest will,
What is she but a foul contending rebel
And graceless traitor to her loving lord?
I am ashamed that women are so simple
To offer war where they should kneel for peace,
Or seek for rule, supremacy, and sway
When they are bound to serve, love, and obey.”
I don’t need a link to that claim, because it’s not defamatory. It’s not spreading rumors about somebody.
Hey. Last time I checked, a discussion of politics doesn’t warrant name-calling. If you all are just going to be a bunch of childish idiots, then I’m outta here.
Eskimo. Why is Eskimo derogatory? Eskimo. I never could Eskimo figure that out. It Eskimo doesn’t sound Eskimo Eskimo Eskimo particularly bad. It means “eater of raw meat” Eskimo that doesn’t sound awful.
Eskimo
Summary of Anon:
I like to start fires. I like to burn things. People that put out fires really irk me.
Group decides: Ok, must be a Pyro.
Anon: I just love all the assumptions that because I don’t like people putting out my fire, I am a pyro. Now I’m obviously into fire, obviously like matches–god forbid someone be into burning random sheds down, on a forum when it’s so easy for people to assign whatever labels make them comfortable.
Here is the big question – and there is a time crunch. We don’t know enough about Sarah Palin because she’s a half-term Governor from Alaska. If rage-fueled cadaver McCain is elected President at 72 and not in good health – Palin may hold the reigns of the country for a few years before she lets toddler Trig push the button on Mommy’s desk.
Even the idiots who think Sarah Palin better is known than Joe Biden (who has also run for president on a couple occasions – er-duh!) need to close their eyes and imagine her as President of the good ole US of A.
I close my eyes and have nightmares of Snowbilly and her brood hosting international leaders as Vice President with her Canadian/Roseanne Barr whiney-voice offering a buffet of crackers and snacks with all the spray-on toppings you can choose from “because there so dang Amercian – and I’m a proud American Mom!”.
I dunno why “eskimo” is derogatory, all I know is that our history teacher won’t allow any of us to use the term in speech or writing.
Maybe she made it all up? And she’s probably going home everyday and chuckling to herself at how gullible her history class is, believing her when she says the word “eskimo” is a derogatory term. You never know with those 60 year old types. They CAN be sneaky.
Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeya, Kimbo.
Come back soon, sweetie!
I just want to encourage you (not that you need it) to keep posting whatever the hell it is that interests you. It’s your blog, and there are enough blogs out there that if someone doesn’t like the content on this one they can easily go elsewhere. I occasionally look at perezhilton.com and he gets similar comments (“stop posting political stuff– get back to celebrity gossip”), but I’m happy that he’s ignored them.
A side note: I was a big John Edwards supporter from the get-go, but I still read every one of your posts, and while I don’t think that just because someone would lie about their sex life means that they would lie about everything else, I was (and am) deeply disturbed by his reaction to the “scandal” and subsequent cover-up. I might not share your exact opinions on the subject, but I appreciated your coverage of the story.
I encourage DogSniff to post that essay everywhere he can. Not only does arrogant elitism make you feel better, but it’s a great way to win an election.
“Well, apparently Deceiver is run by neocon hypocrites because we’re afraid to reveal the truth about Sarah Palin’s plan to throw Eskimos onto piles of burning books, bought with the money she stole from the Bridge to Nowhere and orphanages for the disabled, with help from her inbred family and secessionist, anti-Semitic friends.”
Plus she’s not really a woman. Stop hiding the truth, you Neo-Con.
I,m reporting a hypocrite.It’s you,you Rethug pile of SH*T!
Please be more specific.
Anon’s just one of those Shakespearean kinda things.
I like this one:
“Damn me now to hell my female evil.”
Deus ex wifea?
Ganzagwenie:
I was watching some footage tonight of one of the Democrat debates-among the “big three”. They looked like they were on Jeopardy. Anyway, John Edwards tore into BO about his voting present over 100 times in the Illinois senate. I’m no great fan of any of them but it was rather impressive-I have to give it to him. I guess that it goes to show that those who can, sue. Those who can’t sue teach, I’m sorry, guest lecture-Constitutional Law.
