Paris Hilton Is Really, Really Anti-Fur — Except When She’s Shopping in Denmark

First, a little bit of history:

  1. Paris Hilton headlined PETA’s “worst-dressed” list for 2005 because she wore lots of fur coats.
  2. In February 2006, anti-fur PETA activists pelted her with “flour bombs” (like a water balloon with a puff of smoke instead) after she appeared in Julien Macdonald’s show at London’s Fashion Week.
  3. Sometime in the next three months, PETA got to her. By May, Paris had sat down with Heather Mills and watched the group’s anti-fur videos, and started saying that she would no longer wear fur. Paris even told Pam Anderson that she might want to start being an anti-fur spokesperson.
  4. In June 2006, Paris’ spokesman Eliot Mintz told TMZ: “Paris does not wear fur, nor will she wear fur described as artificial fur knowing it came off the backs of animals.”
  5. More firm quotes followed. To World Entertainment News Network: “I am not going to be wearing fur anymore.” To China’s Xinhua news agency, about the meeting with Heather Mills: “From that point I’ve never worn fur and I never will.”
  6. Mills herself claimed last year that Paris was “an absolutely lovely girl and actually quite bright” (which should be the first sign that something is amiss, but I digress…) “After she had used a box of tissues she said, ‘I will never, ever wear fur again and I will hand all my fur over tomorrow’, and she did.”

Which brings us up to the present day. Berglund of Copenhagen, a famous furrier in Denmark, announced proudly on its website last month that “Paris Hilton ordered 3 jackets … at her recent visit.” And unless I’m misunderstanding something, Paris was also wearing Berglund furs in a December 2007 issue of Star magazine.

Here’s a lovely MSN StarLounge story with a slideshow of Paris Hilton’s many Danish furs (that first one sells for over US $45,000). Now why on earth can’t you find this anywhere in the English-speaking world? Does anyone out there read Danish? I know that their coins have holes in the middle, and their pastries don’t. That’s about it.

Everybody repeat after me: Celebrities who say they’re too “moral” or “ethical” to wear fur coats or eat meat are not to be trusted. They all float back to earth eventually — as soon as they realize that they’re not that special, or that PETA is a corrupt bunch of opportunistic leeches.

maybe if they don’t kill the animals and instead we just strap live chinchillas and foxes to our bodies? but sedate them, because chinchillas can be quite squirmy. then they would be soft AND produce their own heat.

    but maybe smell like pee.

  2. 2 phoenix Sep 10th, 2008 at 1:26 pm

Man, how is it she can make a $45,000 jacket look cheap?

  3. 3 Fortunate Son Sep 10th, 2008 at 1:35 pm

Yet another celebrity who thinks the rules don’t apply to them. Next!

  4. 4 llamasrule Sep 10th, 2008 at 2:01 pm

zing of the day goes to phoenix…lol. She forgot her religious crusade, too, and wanting to have babies and be a mommy. It was just another phase for her, something to pass the time and call press conferences about.

  5. 5 StrawberryGirl Sep 10th, 2008 at 2:04 pm

Heather Mills and Paris Hilton in the same story? Wow! A Deceiver Double Feature!

  6. 6 phoenix Sep 10th, 2008 at 2:41 pm

Also, I like the live animal coat idea, just because live animals squirming all over my back sounds like an eco-friendly version of those vibrating massage chairs.

Plus think of the high end celebrity cache- if you’re truly loaded, you don’t buy a coat, you RENT the animals. Way pricier!

  7. 7 James Sep 10th, 2008 at 3:07 pm

F*ck PETA. Bunch of no life weirdos….

  8. 8 Discordia Sep 10th, 2008 at 3:20 pm

“Paris does not wear fur, nor will she wear fur described as artificial fur knowing it came off the backs of animals.”

Paris probably thinks that polyester is an endangered species.

  9. 9 flirt Sep 10th, 2008 at 4:18 pm

So, does artificial fur come from artificial animals?

    Because I’d totally join PETAA.

  10. 10 Runolfr Sep 10th, 2008 at 4:22 pm

I guess she thought that being a PETA advocate was the “in thing”, and then realized what a trap it was.

  11. 11 kim Sep 10th, 2008 at 6:13 pm

Well, everybody knows she turned in all her furs because they were LAST season’s furs.

  12. 12 Kelli Sep 10th, 2008 at 7:10 pm

It’s not hot anymore to work for Peta… Why is this skanky hoe even news worthy in the first place?

  13. 13 Pastafarian Sep 10th, 2008 at 7:34 pm

I noticed not a single one of those guys in those pictures are looking at her.

  14. 14 Chronic Malanga Sep 10th, 2008 at 7:43 pm

I don’t think that Paris Hilton can remember what she did five minutes ago, much less what she has said in interviews past.

  15. 15 Alicia Sep 10th, 2008 at 8:49 pm

We’ve all seen how well Paris keeps her word… what about all of these charities she was going to devote her life to after she got out of jail? I’m guessing her next big story will be a “leaked” tape of her and Benji… wonder if they’ll pull out the furry handcuffs for that one?!

  16. 16 klaus Sep 10th, 2008 at 11:33 pm

i read danish, it basically says she owns 6 of the furs already, and ordered 3 more. the rest is crap about different colors, the store and people she met blah blah.

  17. 17 Trompi Sep 11th, 2008 at 12:12 am

Paris Hilton is the epitome of cheap. Her talk is cheap as are her looks and non-existent talent.
The sad thing is certain people actually listen to what she says, care about her life and god help us all, look up to her. She is one “celebrity” that should never be trusted beyond the fact that we can always trust her to be completely fake.

  18. 18 trent bowie Sep 11th, 2008 at 1:53 am

Ooooh, yet another accessory for my Stupid Spoiled Whore Playset!

  19. 19 smartypants Sep 11th, 2008 at 8:53 am

Celebrities are in the business of being politically correct (except when it comes to overt politics, where for some reason they feel they can spout partisan nonsense as if their opinion is the only one that matters). It’s “politically incorrect” to wear fur, so they pretend that they don’t wear it, especially since it gets PETA off of their backs (no pun intended). This is just the path of least resistance. Nobody gets offended when someone ostensibly doesn’t wear fur, so that’s what they do. The problem is that they like fur, real fur. It’s soft and luxurious, and they probably get furs free from major designers. This puts them in a real fix, and leads to the ridiculous visuals we get–like Lindsay Lohan pinning a “No Fur” button to the lapel of her mink jacket, or Victoria Beckham–in absurd fashion–claiming to have had all of the top fur designs remade using fake fur, because she “doesn’t wear real fur.” Huh? Who actualy believes this? For those keeping score, Mrs. Beckham was just photographed a couple of weeks ago wearing a real fox fur trimmed Italian sweater at the release of her fragrance line, and Lindsay earlier this year actually stole another woman’s $12,000 mink coat and wore it around for several days. (Apparently, Lindsay is not against wearing real fur, just real fur that she’s paid for herself.) I once heard actress Debra Messing on a talk show, when asked directly whether she wears fur, state that she has never bought and worn a fur of her own. How sly of her. Debra is photographed in real fur all of the time; does it matter whether it was a gift or she bought it herself? For the record, I have no problem with fur. I think it’s generally attractive on women. I do have a problem with hypocrisy though, but this is what you get when a group like PETA gets too big for its britches and intimidates people into conforming to its wishes. By and large, women like fur. PETA has just scared many of them into the closet in terms of wearing it (pun intended).

  20. 20 ganzagwenie Sep 11th, 2008 at 2:34 pm

I love fur! If I still lived in the Czech Republic, I would totally buy and wear a fur coat.

  21. 21 katie Sep 11th, 2008 at 10:23 pm

i personally think fur looks tacky anyway, but it especially looks gross on paris. i remember paris saying she wouldn’t wear fur anymore.. but something tells me she forgot she said that. i would say she’s an idiot, but what’s new?

  22. 22 James Sep 12th, 2008 at 3:14 pm

Paris Hilton is sure one dumb blonde.

What with the porno vid, trying to copyright the expression ‘Thats hot’ (sic) and having her mobile hacked (strange it hasn’t happened to many other zlebs). Her parents must be proud.

    Paris. Another oxygen stealing airhead.

  23. 23 Ed Sep 12th, 2008 at 9:41 pm

I don’t trust celebrities. Too many of them change their minds every time a camera moves away from them. Celebrities must be able to attract attention otherwise they will not be in the public eye and they will stop being celebrities. This is especially true if they become a celebrity without having a noteworthy talent. Losing their celebrity status is probably a fate worst than death for most.

However this does not mean wearing animal fur is any less cruel because some celebrity chose to wear or not wear animal fur. The animals are still treated like crap and they are still killed. They have no rights on a fur factory farm. They self mutilate, cannibalise, go insane and are deprived of basic needs. They will spend there whole life in a small wire mesh cage. They will spend their whole life in these tiny cages with other animals. These cages will be placed beside each other in long rows. These long rows will be placed in long sheds and these long sheds will be placed beside other long sheds. This is why it’s called fur factory farms. A factory system of cruelty and no rights for these wild animals. If dogs or cats were placed like this for the fur trade there would be uproar. But then again they are treated in another way. 2 million dogs and cats are killed every year for the fur trade.

Animals that are killed for fur are killed by many ways. All the ways are so the fur of the animal is not damaged. The emphasis is not on the animal but on the fur of the animal. The animals are clubbed, beaten, anally electrocuted, gassed, they have their necks broken or are simply skinned alived. See
And that’s a brief summary. I haven’t even talked about trapping. Animals who are trapped are killed by drowning, suffocating, clubbing etc. They may be left in a steel jaw trap for hours or days. Some animals are chewed through their own limbs to get away.

Celebrities don’t worry me. But the fur industry does. Fur is not necessary. 70 minks killed for a coat that most women don’t like (sorry to contradict you smartypants but what you say does not seem to be the general consensus. I wonder are you one of these new employees who type messages on forums for the fur industry all day that I’ve being hearing about?)

  24. 24 cindy Sep 13th, 2008 at 11:32 pm

we’ve got a live one, folks. prepare to don your fur-lined, tinfoil helmets.

  25. 25 Stella Sep 17th, 2008 at 10:37 pm

PETA is a corrupt bunch of opportunistic leeches? Nonsense. Paris Hilton is a phony. Your comment about PETA is uninformed. Why don’t you do some resarch before making an ignorant, knee-jerk reaction? You obviously have no idea about PETA. Ed’s comment is absolutely on target. People who wear fur are the most odious race of pernicious little vermin that nature ever suffered to crawl across the surface of the earth.

Yes, and why are we talking about Paris Hilton when there are only 54 days until the election? Don’t we have something better to do? Forget what celebrities do and focus on how you can effect change.

People are more violently opposed to fur than leather because it’s safer to harass rich women
    than motorcycle gangs.

People will NOT stop wearing fur, nor will they stop eating meat.
You can’t tell anyone else how to run their lives or what to buy.
    Get over yourselves, PETA

  30. 30 Emily Oct 26th, 2008 at 11:11 pm

I think it is a shame that celebritites who have (depressingly) a lot of power and are able to influence impressionable people, choose to wear fur.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion regarding PETA, and no doubt there are always two sides to every story to an extent.
However, i think that the reality of fur, and in particular, the WAY the fur is taken from the animals is clearly wrong…and you do not need to be some hardcore animal rights activist to see that. I think fur should be a matter that bothers everyone who considers themselves to be a humane, compassionate and decent human being. Fur is completely uneccesary and is worn by people with too much money and not enough anything else. It is a status sign, which is odd because all it means is that you are rich enough to wear something that was once on the back of a living, breathing feeling creature, that probably rather enjoyed having its fur just like we humans like our skin without thinking about the fact that we do 24/7.
I see people like J-Lo and Beyonce, and though perhaps, with the right ammount of make-up, the carefully styled hair and the designer outfits (that steal away any idea of being an individual), they might look ‘good’…i actually see ugly people, ugly right down from the core. There is a ‘hard’ look that these women have, a spoilt, narcissistic coldness…the type of woman who is not actually beautiful at all…a parasite in my opinion.
I saw a video that was not narrated…no american or british voice talking me through what i was witnessing…just a raw, explicit video of innocent racoon dogs and foxes being treated so badly…it was the most disturbing thing i have ever seen. This guy, coughing and spitting phlegm on the ground whilst he skinned a squirming racoon dog (hanging by its legs) ALIVE.
This creature had already been slammed onto the ground a few times to stun it, but not kill it.
Through wretched tears that fell for this wretched voiceless animal, i watched as its very skin was pulled, off its legs, off its back…while it wriggled and tried desperately to escape. Imagine that agony if you can…just for a moment…as its skin was pulled over and off its head, face…while this man spits and coughs and sounds like he has a cancer deep inside, symbolic for the cancer that some people have become. I then watch as a beautiful fox is stamped on, its neck is stood on, i hear the cracking of bones, the death-rattle breath as the skin and fur is pulled off…then the raw, bloody, still blinking animal is thrown onto a cart to die. The camera man films as the fox is breating, the fox swallows, the fox tries to sit up…it sits up..it looks into the camera…eyelashes attatched on one eye but not the other…then it collapses…taking 5-10 minutes to die. IMAGINE THAT FOR A MOMENT.
The fur of these tortured animals will be ‘treated’, shipped off and will become forever anonymous, forever removed from their rightful owner…creatures forced to lose THEIR looks and lives so AWFUL, VAIN humans can feel ‘glamorous’. They will be dyed pink, they wil adorn the stores for the rich and famous. Paris Hilton and the like…who know but do not care are the worst- also Anna Wintour and Julian McDonald…these are people i would never, EVER respect, would never look up to. When i see them dressed in fur, i do not feel envy, i do not see a lifestyle i desire…i do not see beauty, i do NOT see glamour. I see the tragic cosequences of absurd wealth for the few, i see corruption, i see injustice…but most of all, i see the eyes of that fox.

I think the relationship will be great for her. Now she has a whole network of hypocrites to back her up.

  32. 32 Leanne Jan 25th, 2010 at 12:48 pm

All you people who are saying you have no problem with fur and that you like it etc. must be the coldest, sickest people on this planet, to care that little about anything else but yourself, just so that you can try and make yourself look nice, when infact you look like a complete TWAT. I can just imagine what your like, some stuck up person, completely thick, only cares about yourself and constantly trying to get all the attention and make everyone love you.
    haha pathetic.
Dont hate PETA just because they’re doing good in the world and have a heart when you know you will never have either.
I’m not some crazy activist hippie, im a 19 student from Wales who just loathes people like you.
Go do some research before speaking out of your arses. Watch the videos on youtube and the anti fur sites and if you arn’t disgusted or feel guilty or any sadness at all for the animals, especially the ones being skinned ALIVE, because ‘its more efficiant’, then just help the planet and the human race and go kill yourself. thanks.
