McCain Reaches Across Aisle to Deliver B****slap

TMZ is reporting:

John McCain has weighed in over Barack Obama’s reported slap in the face to Lindsay Lohan. The Chicago Sun-Times quotes an unnamed high-level Barack source who says they rejected Lohan’s offer to host an event because she “is not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be a positive for us.”

Tucker Bounds, a spokesman for the McCain campaign tells TMZ, “So let me get this straight — they turned away Lindsay Lohan, but Barack Obama has friends like unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers and convicted felon Tony Rezko? Maybe LiLo is just too upstanding for Barack Obama.”

I don’t know much about what’s wrong with the economy right now, but I do know that it doesn’t have a lot to do with Obama’s opinion of Lindsay Lohan. Think maybe you could get back to talking about the issues, Maverick?

On the other hand, it’s nice to see Lohan butting into yet another matter that she knows absolutely nothing about. Why shouldn’t she give politics a try, after failing at acting, music, fashion, romance, substance abuse counseling, being a human…

Hey, I wonder what Scarlett Johansson thinks about all this?

Update: The Lohan campaign responds.

I wonder what the comment from the McCain campaign would have been if Obama had accepted Lindsay’s offer? Perhaps they could have spliced her into the Paris Hilton/Britney Spears/Rock Star ad that they were running earlier in the campaign? Maybe they are annoyed because they made the effort, did the work and now they can’t use it?

Everybody shut up for a second and listen.

“I don’t know much about what’s wrong with the economy right now, but I do know that it doesn’t have a lot to do with Obama’s opinion of Lindsay Lohan. Think maybe you could get back to talking about the issues, Maverick?”

Heard that? It’s common f**king sense.

Come on … you can’t get no Presidential tail from a lesbo!

On the other hand, Barack loves Scarlett.

Why do I get the feeling that this story doesn’t pass the smell test. Sounds like the tale about Jamie Lynn Spears sending Bristol Palin a baby gift.

“The credit crunch and foreclosure problems are failures of government policy. In fact, what we see now is a market correction to foolhardy government policy. Congress’ move to bailout lenders and borrowers who made poor decisions will simply create incentives for people to make unwise decisions in the future.” —Walter Williams

“[Barack] Obama… blamed the shocking new round of subprime-related bankruptcies on the free-market system, and specifically the ‘trickle-down’ economics of the Bush administration, which he tried to gig opponent John McCain for wanting to extend. But it was the Clinton administration, obsessed with multiculturalism, that dictated where mortgage lenders could lend, and originally helped create the market for the high-risk subprime loans now infecting like a retrovirus the balance sheets of many of Wall Street’s most revered institutions. Tough new regulations forced lenders into high-risk areas where they had no choice but to lower lending standards to make the loans that sound business practices had previously guarded against making. It was either that or face stiff government penalties. The untold story in this whole national crisis is that President Clinton put on steroids the Community Redevelopment Act, a well-intended Carter-era law designed to encourage minority homeownership. And in so doing, he helped create the market for the risky subprime loans that he and Democrats now decry as not only greedy but ‘predatory.’ Yes, the market was fueled by greed and overleveraging in the secondary market for subprimes, vis-a-vis mortgaged-backed securities traded on Wall Street. But the seed was planted in the ‘90s by Clinton and his social engineers.” —Investor’s Business Daily

“At 35%, the United States has a higher corporate tax rate than France (34.4%), the United Kingdom (28%), Japan (30%), Germany (15.83%) and even that Scandinavian welfare state deluxe, Sweden (28%). And Barack Obama intends to keep it that way—competitiveness be damned!” —Don Feder

Hatem El-hady. Had his phony charity organization closed and assets frozen by the US government for raising money for Hamas in 2006. http://www.digitaljournal.com/article...

He sure surrounds himself with interesting people. Maybe it’s all just “bad judgement” or maybe he’s just a liar. Either way this is the man democrats want to have in charge of our country.

Both Obama’s and Ayers’ people have refused to comment on the nature of their relationship.

Former intelligence officer Larry Johnson: “At a minimum this reminds us that there is a pattern of bad judgment by Obama. He goes in on a land deal with Tony Rezko even though he knows Rezko is a target of a Federal investigation. And his explanation? A mistake in judgment. Now this. Anyone thinking of running for President should know they cannot take money from a terrorist and they cannot serve on a board with a terrorist. Period. But this simple lesson apparently escapes the brilliant constitutional law professor. This much we do know. Obama does not deny having a relationship with William Ayers. Obama has never repudiated the terrorism of William Ayers. If you think this is a record Obama can run on in the fall and survive you are living in an alternate universe. It is time to get some clear answers to tough questions before the Democrats sell their soul to someone whose lapses in judgment will come back to haunt them in the fall.”

“Obama’s Ayers and Dorhn relationship is something more than a few people have been trying to nail down for weeks. You can bet the Republicans and their 527s will do just that. I don’t blame them either. This goes well beyond the Rezko connection. In the bad judgment file, any association whatsoever with a domestic terrorist who actively tried to thwart an air war during the Vietnam war, calls our Marines “terrorists,” while also being unrepentant about it, shows a lack of seriousness I will never accept. John McCain’s personal disgust at this connection between Obama and Ayers will bring out a righteous fury that will likely pit the War Hero against the Terrorist’s Friend, which is just one angle Obama’s opponents will use.”

“William Ayers is an unrepentant terrorist, though he is normally described as a distinguished education professor. One does not necessarily rule out the other, but he himself acknowledges planting bombs in U.S. Federal buildings. There is now undeniable proof of a longstanding relationship between Barack Obama and William Ayers. We are not talking about two guys who just happened to bump into one another on the street. We are not talking about a secret admirer (Ayers) who quietly sent money to an aspiring politician.

No, we are talking about William Ayers hosting a fundraiser for Barack Obama and actively working with him to secure Barack’s first electoral victory in Illinois. But wait, there is more. Barack and Ayers also served on the board of the Woods Fund. And they worked together to give money to some other folks, including a group with ties to the PLO.

What makes Ayers so toxic is his own written record equating U.S. Marines with terrorists. Look at the beating that John Kerry took for tossing his medals over the White House fence. Ayers did not toss medals, he threw bombs. Real ones. Bombs that exploded.

Do you think that Republicans will ignore Obama’s ties to Ayers? The two were serving on the same board in 2002. We are talking less than six years ago and the record will come out showing some questionable grants by these two characters. William Ayers, in the age of terrorism, will be Barack Obama’s Willie Horton”

“get back to the issues”…well, one issue is Obama’s penchant for buddying up to mobsters and terrorists. Which is exactly what the McCain camp was talking about.

  10. 10 Aleric Sep 18th, 2008 at 10:54 am

Lol, I have to say that I agree with Sam and Broxie. The point McCain’s spokes person was making is that Obama has no problem cavorting with people of means and money as along as it benefits him financially or politically, but since Lindsay brings nothing to his table he is not going to touch her with a ten foot pollster.

Sort of makes you wonder how he can be an advocate for womesn rights and shun Hillary for Biden and snub out Lohan.

I think he wins the Hypocrite award this week.

Is Obama a celebrity or a terrorist? Get your smear straight. OR, is he a CELEBRITY TERRORIST?!?!?!?

  12. 12 Austin Sep 18th, 2008 at 11:18 am

To bring it back to celebrities and their stupidity for a moment, I’m just trying to wrap my head around what kind of deep, meaningful questions someone like Lohan might ask…

“So, like, why is cocaine illegal?”

“What’s the freakiest thing you guys did in bed?” (followed with a short giggle)

    “What’s your favourite store? I love H&M!”

“So, like, I had this crazy time last night. Me and Sam, we were, like, totally blasted, and so we go into this club, right? And the club owner’s like ‘Cover’s $2000′, and me and Sam are like, ‘Do you know who we are? I’m Lindsay Lohan, dammit! Now let me in!’ And he was all like, ‘Sorry, can’t do that. Our owner supports Palin.’ And I was all, ‘WTF?’ So, then, like, me and Sam, we went to this restaurant, and there were like, all these normal people in there, like? And so, they all start ogling us and saying, like, ‘OMG! It’s Lindsay Lohan and that dyke she’s hooking up wiith!’ And I’m all like, ‘Get with the times, losers!’ So, we totally left that place, too. We went behind an embankment later on, snorted some speed, and then… well… (Giggle, giggle.) Anyway, so, like, what’s you guys’ tax plans?”

“Mr. McCain’s Senate financial disclosures do not list these properties among his assets, because, according to public records, the homes and condominiums are in the name of a corporation trust listing his wife Cindy, the heiress to a beer distributorship whose worth is estimated to be anywhere from $35 million to $100 million.” http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/21/obama-counts-mccains-houses/

Joint property. Wealthy people usually put their property into trusts. The name of the trust is immaterial – he still owns half of those assets if their communal property. No?

Maybe, maybe not. I’m reading the link below to mean that Cindy’s family owned at least 6 of them independent of her marriage to the Senator. Prenup?

  20. 20 StrawberryGirl Sep 18th, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Even though I’m a Republican, I can sympathize with the Obama campaign on this issue. Tony Rezko had the good sense not to star in “I Know Who Killed Me” and “Georgia Rules.”

    No. Prenup.

  22. 22 Ruth P. Sep 18th, 2008 at 3:37 pm

Based on the info at this link http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/635/ McCain owns at least 4 houses not including those in the Cindy McCain trust, unless I counted wrong.

What’s really sad is that Cindy McCain has a sister who her dad abandoned and almost completely cut out of the family will. Cindy has said repeatedly that she’s an only child and this poor woman is like, “Hello, I exist!” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/18/cindy-mccains-half-sister_n_119686.html

  23. 23 Pastafarian Sep 18th, 2008 at 4:09 pm

Who cares how many houses McCain owns? I mean what does it matter? The guy earns a lot of money and his wife has a ton more. That’s what rich people do. Hillary, and Bill earned north of $100 million last year alone. I didn’t hear democrats crying over that. How many homes do the Kennedys own? How about the Kerrys ? How about Arnold Schwarenzenwhatever, or even Arianna Huffington?

“I could never vote for those people they own too much stuff.” Anyone that would say something like that is a moron.

  24. 24 Fortunate Son Sep 18th, 2008 at 5:57 pm

The McCain-Houses issue is just posturing to avoid the obligatory questions about Rezko’s financing deal with Obama.

The Obama camp had been searching for the right quote from McCain with which to build something that would prevent McCain from attacking on Rezko, and kudos to them, it was a strategic master stroke… a mound out of a molehill.

McCain’s a rich guy. He has a lot of houses and all his investments are in blind trusts while he’s a politician, so he probably wouldn’t know.

But Obama’s deal with Rezko is just so poorly executed with a wide paper trail.

    http://www.suntimes.com/news/watchdogs/757340,CST-NWS-watchdog24.article

I’m a little more concerned about why Rezko was searching out young Harvard lawyers, made an offer only to Obama (who turned it down), then never hired any other lawyers in the next 24 months.

“Obama was a student at Harvard Law School and got an unsolicited job offer from Rezko, then a low-income housing developer in Chicago. Obama turned it down.:

Reminds me of that horrible Ethan Hawke movie where an anonymous benefactor follows him all his life and makes him job offers, buys all his paintings etc, to pay him back from helping him escape from prison decades earlier.

The Obama- Rezko story was just such obvious malfeasance that it makes it obvious that Obama had no intention of running for president in June 2005.

  25. 25 Pastafarian Sep 18th, 2008 at 8:13 pm

Horrible Ethan Hawke movie? You need to narrow that down a little more.

I get that they’re not his houses to own. Clear with everyone? Neato. However, I don’t see how any Republican or Democratic candidate can even become a presidential hopeful without the benefit of wads and wads of cash. Either one. You can call Obama and elitist if you want, but you have to understand that McCain has just as much to be an elitist about as Obama does.

Though, considering Obama’s roots, I’m absolutely shocked that – ignoring platforms, etc., here for a second – that the Republican party will look at a man who started from much more humble beginnings to a success story. When did we start looking down at those few who succeed at the “American Dream?”

Sam–just so you know, the mortage crisis was not in the Clinton era. During those years, our economy was in a boom which created a surplus and temporarily halted the growth of our national debt. Whitehouse.gov describes the Clinton administration as the following:

“During the administration of William Jefferson Clinton, the U.S. enjoyed more peace and economic well being than at any time in its history. He was the first Democratic president since Franklin D. Roosevelt to win a second term. He could point to the lowest unemployment rate in modern times, the lowest inflation in 30 years, the highest home ownership in the country’s history, dropping crime rates in many places, and reduced welfare rolls. He proposed the first balanced budget in decades and achieved a budget surplus. As part of a plan to celebrate the millennium in 2000, Clinton called for a great national initiative to end racial discrimination.” (whitehouse.gov)

Unfortunately, our current adminstration took that pause in the growth of our national debt and decided they would set records in the opposite direction and send our debt through the roof. How do they expect to pay for all of that? Through the taxes of middle class Americans–we already have proof that they will not raise corporate taxes or have the rich pay anywhere close to the same percentage the middle class does. The bailout and the war sit squarely upon the backs of middle America. Most recently, the humor from McCain is scary. He is against the bailout (that helps alleviate millions of again, middle class Americans, losing their retirement, college funds and insurance needs because of bad investments by the rich elite) because he feels that the American public should not be saddled with the debt, however, he never asked or listened to the American people when voting for the war in Iraq which has cost the public a nice shiny penny or two.

Also, in the timeline of the mortgage boom, the strategy of investing in the mortgage market began in the mid 1980’s (hmmmm, who was president then?–your GOP). This lucrative practice continued through the 1990’s, but it was the dotcom bubble that burst during the Clinton era–and that was not even close to what this mortgage crisis consumes. After the terrorist attacks, the Fed and W slashed rates and granted tax cuts to increase spending (remember the speech right after 9/11 about how America was open for business–yikes, can you give us a moment??). Subprime lending hit its peak and and investment companies as well as Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were encouraged by the Bush administration to increase homeownership and invested significantly in subprime loan “pools” (Klein).

We all know the resulting crash of that mortgage bubble that started in 2003–well into the first 4 year term of W. Now, all of these people that were put into real estate stocks as part of their mutual funds by suggestion of their brokers, will be the ones paying the price. Between the upper middle class getting hit below the belt with the possibility of losing their retirement and the lower middle class losing their credit rating and their homes to foreclosure in this mess, who is left over? Looks like people like you that still have not had the blast of cold water hit you in the face. Stop trying to blame the administration that left office 8 years ago and wake up and smell the coffee. This is the current administration’s fault and McCain has stood alongside W over 96% of the time. He is no maverick–he is just anther veteran that wants to show his patriotism on his lapel and not by proving what is best for the citizens of this country, just the portion that make over $5 Million a year.
