Barack Obama is an elitist out-of-touch snob, says the billionaire socialite…

Lady Lynn Forester De Rothschild, formerly a gigantic Hillary Clinton fundraiser and currently an incredibly well-connected snob, made news today by switching her allegiance from the Democratic Party and endorsing John McCain for President.

Why?

The landed-gentry Lady Rothschild told CNN: “This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don’t like him. I feel like he is an elitist.

First of all, I’m picturing her giving that “elitist” comment from the back of a stretch Rolls-Royce while looking in vain for some Grey Poupon to slather on her white truffle and foie gras sandwich (washed down with the tears of orphans).

And second, if I were Obama’s campaign people, I would be sending Rothschild platinum-wrapped candy, a loinclothed virgin male from Togo, or whatever it is rich people get as gifts. And then I would issue a press release saying “Thank you, Scrooge McRichLady, for demonstrating that Barack Obama is too salt-of-the earth for your whiny-ass jet set mind to embrace. Now go home and yell at the hired help for not stomping on the autumn grapes fast enough, and get busy figuring out how to help the guy with seven homes — instead of the ‘elitist’ — win the White House.”

I also like Gawker’s take, which cites the Yiddish translation of Tevye’s “If I Were a Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof — which is rendered as “ven ikh bin a rotshild” (“If I Were a Rothschild”).

If you want a sense of just how upper-crust this name-calling twit is, read Lloyd Grove’s October 2007 profile  of Rothschild in Condé Nast Portfolio. My favorite question posed to the good Lady: “How did you make your first hundred million?”

How dare the Deceiver point the finger of hypocrisy at this poor poor lady….

besides, takes one to know one!

    Yeah, but she’s no feminist!

The really funny part of this is that Lynn Forrester used to be married to New York Democratic boss Andrew Stein… who cheated on Forrester (allegedly) with Ann Coulter.

    Small world.

With The Oversneer’s detailed image of the well-to-do I’m tempted to call him an elitist but not a snob. He replies in his own posts, I don’t think a snob would do that.

And if he’d gladly loan me fifty bucks today for a hamburger, I’d gladly pay him back on Tuesday … and then I’d no longer call him an elitist even.

Since when does having money make one an elitist? I’ve known some relatively poor people who represented the height of elitism in their attitudes and behavior. Indeed, many college professor types, who are not loaded, have the same attitude. Obama is indeed an elitist, as are most political liberals; I’m not sure whether this lady is an elitist, but I know Obama is nothing less.

Please enlighten us. How do you KNOW Obama is an elitist? Is it the cars he drives? Does he have a Volvo with bumper stickers exhorting the Pentagon to hold bake sales to buy bombs? The many houses he owns? The ties he chooses? The brie he eats with a selection of fine wines? Does he drink lattes? Is he from Seattle? Does he drink tea with his pinky up and two lumps of sugar with cream and NOT low fat milk?
    Please share.

Without reading the headline, and just a glance at the picture, I thought this was gonna be a story about the woman that played Murphy Brown. You know who I mean? I can’t think of her name. Her grandfather was the guy with the dummy.

Isn’t Anderson Cooper related to the Rothschild’s? I know he comes from one of those rich sounding families. Maybe it’s Vanderbilt.

  15. 15 Fortunate Son Sep 17th, 2008 at 11:38 pm

Good trivia there Pastafarian, was not aware of that.

Anderson Cooper is Gloria “It’s a shame to call them jeans” Vanderbilt’s son.

Because I used the word “enlighten” I nailed it? Or did I give you a list of why he is elitist and those or parts of those were correct? I know for a fact he isn’t from Seattle but I don’t know what kind of car he drives. So, I am still a little in the dark on how Obama is an elitist. Please explain, provide some evidence, something slightly concrete. Or is it elitist to ask for that?

  19. 19 Chronic Malanga Sep 18th, 2008 at 3:37 am

You really have to be doing something horribly wrong if your husband strays into the arms of Ann Coulter.

  20. 20 Aleric Sep 18th, 2008 at 10:41 am

So let me sum this up.

To be an Elitist you have to have money. (check)

To judge someone an Elitest you can’t have money. (check)

To be Female and Rich you had to have married into it. (check)

To have an opinion on someone you have been subjected to for the past 14 months you can’t gain an impression of their character unless you have actually met them.

  21. 21 Snoop-Diggity-DANG-Dawg Sep 18th, 2008 at 11:21 am

“..provide some evidence, something slightly concrete.”

    Lemme see:
    1. Wrote his autobiography before age 40, correctly assuming that he was already such an amazing personality in his 30s, that it would be irresponsible to make the world wait any longer to hear his fan-tabulous life story.
    2. Realizes that even he underestimated his own awesomeness in step #1, and (PBUH) wrote another book about himself to rectify the error.
    3. Loves floating his admission to Harvard as evidence of his superior intelligence & judgement, while refusing to release his mediocre academic records.
    4. Made millions of dollars and then decide THIS is the time to start chastizing the rest of Earth about how stingy we all are.
    5. Assumes the micro-experience he has as a 1) law professor 2)community organizer(wha?) 3) 143 days in the senate qualify him to lead the free world.

I am constantly confused when I read the opinion of someone who has all of the trappings of the label she is using to accuse someone else of. If you looked up elitist in the dictionary, this woman’s picture would be next to it. The French have a saying “I think if history is our guide, we’ve had stronger economies, more wealth creation, under Democratic presidents than we have under Republican presidents. So I don’t understand why all my capitalist friends aren’t Democrats.” This is a direct quote from the Lady during an interview with Portfolio.com in 2007. The only thing that has changed is that the Democratic party did not choose a woman and the Republican party did. Obviously, Ms. Rothchild has let her love of the Clintons to overshadow her need for a stronger economy. Of course, the outcome of this election is not going to hurt her one way or other because these days, as evidenced by quite a few of our American companies, she is looking to India for her investments. I find it laughable that this woman would resort to a Republican tactic which unfortunately has worked so well in the past: label the opposing party member(s) with the label that best fits your own party member(s). While the “elitist” Democratic candidate lives on the South Side of Chicago (albeit in a middle class neighborhood, Hyde Park), she lives on an 3,200 acre Buckinghamshire estate in the UK and has a 18th floor duplex in New York in River House. I love it when these wealthy wags give us their opinions from on high. Run your companies, play gentlewoman farmer with your husband, Evelyn, pour yourself a glass of Chateau Lafitte (the Rothschild wine), look in the mirror, click your heels three times while saying “I am not an elitist”. Get over yourself, sore loser.

I think you should have read the interview article you linked to in its entirety. In your post title, you call her a “billionaire socialite.” While the billionaire part is clearly correct, the socialite label is incorrect. Excerpted from the interview:

L.G.: By the way, I noticed that it understandably got under your skin—I think it was the Wall Street Journal that referred to you in a profile piece as a “socialite.” And you wrote a letter, saying, “I’m no more a socialite than I am a dressmaker or a brain surgeon.”

She also talks in the article about not being social at all in the U.S., and being a business-obssessed person. It comes across pretty clearly from the interview that she’s anything but a socialite.

Billionaire, yes. Socialite, no. Elitist? More likely than not.

” The only thing that has changed is that the Democratic party did not choose a woman and the Republican party did.”

Is it sexist to vote for a man/woman if you are a man/woman?

Is it racist to vote for a black/white person if you are black/white?

(Admittedly that lets Obama off the hook .. being half and half.)

  26. 26 Snoop-Diggity-DANG-Dawg Sep 18th, 2008 at 3:22 pm

Well I’m sure that this means that Obama is going to stop taking money from all the other snobs and elitists that contribute to his campaign. Some, like Soros and Spielberg, who make Ms. Rothschild look like the poor relations.

Obama isn’t going to miss this elitist snob…he has a whole gang of them breathlessly waiting to be taken to the cleaners.

She’s chump change for his campaign. You know, The ONE who we’ve all been waiting for!

Of the people, by the people, but bought by the RICH (who he has promised he will soak… AGAIN).

There’s a sucker born every minute, rich and poor.

  30. 30 Mary Sep 18th, 2008 at 7:16 pm

She’s right…Obama’s ego is bigger than many accomplished persons. His arrogance is matched only by his wife, and they are both anti-American and anti-white…which is odd since he is half white. The ‘audacity’ of his fashioning his own presidential seal and changing the flag symbol to an embellished O on his plane weren’t enough…then he gives his speech in a stadium as though it were a Roman Coliseum to celebrate his reign as Emperor. This emperor has NO Clothes,no experience, and no plans. He is a marxist and his recent campaigning relys on lies, and desperation.

I don’t know, somehow it bothers me that rich a**holes like this even HAVE the right to vote who runs this country. How is who being president affect them so much anyway? I mean worst case scenario they can gather up their billions and move to France or something, go dig a hole and live in a million dollar bunker. It’s the little people making pennies who REALLY need a change. People who are completely out of touch with what it’s like to be a “real” person in the “real” world should be forced to research what the hell they’re talking about before the make decisions that affect peons like me.

  35. 35 jenn Sep 19th, 2008 at 9:50 am

Dayna rich a**holes pay most the taxes and therefore should probably have two votes.
The fact is that the top 1% of all income earners pull in about 18% of all income and pay 38.8% of all income taxes. Rothschild grew up middle class and worked hard and made smart choices – not good luck involved, just good choices. Yes she married into wealth but she brought her own money too. I would rather like her voting than those sitting on their fat a**es waiting for the next welfare cheque. Get an education and get a better job. There is no reason that people cannot be succesful in this country.

  36. 36 JR Sep 19th, 2008 at 11:42 am

Oh boy… This post, most of the responses, and Campbell Brown of CNN all need an English lesson…

Rothschild called Obama and “elitist.” She is a member of “the elite.” Two different things.

    ELITE:

1a. A group or class of persons or a member of such a group or class, ENJOYING superior intellectual, social, or economic status: “In addition to notions of social equality there was much emphasis on the role of elites and of heroes within them” Times Literary Supplement.
1b. The best or most skilled members of a group: the football team’s elite.

    2. A size of type on a typewriter, equal to 12 characters per linear inch.

    ELITIST:

    1. The BELIEF that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.

2a. The sense of entitlement enjoyed by such a group or class.
2b. CONTROL, RULE, or DOMINATION by such a group or class.

You would have to know Rothschild and here attitudes to label her an elitist. Words mean things people, learn them! Please!!

  37. 37 Snoop-Diggity-DANG-Dawg Sep 19th, 2008 at 11:45 am

“There is no reason that people cannot be succesful in this country.”

Exactly. The same ‘mean’ country that gave Barak & Michelle Obama ivy league educations and a chance to lead the free world. What a rotten place.

  38. 38 Shallie Sep 20th, 2008 at 12:47 pm

“The elite theory sheds all pretences of an ideal democracy: America is governed by those individuals controlling the state, military establishments, and the corporate economy.” OR “Often, such as in politics, it is used to describe persons as out of touch with the common people. The implication is that the “elitist” person or group thinks they are better than everyone else, and therefore put themselves before others.” As far as I know, Obama doesn’t “control the state, military establishmens, or the corporate economy,” nor is he “out of touch” with the low and middle classes. What I think concerns people is his intellect and skin color. The idea of a black man leading our country simply terrifies many – a clear indication that racism has not waned; merely been tossed into a closet until it is confronted head-on once an opportunity presents itself. It is a shame that Obama – who clearly is an ideal Presidential candidate that concerns himself with the inequality of our people and wants to lessen the divide of that inequality – can’t be accepted for his ideas to help the common folks in a nation that has for decades been left wanting. Cries of being an “elitist” is a much easily moniker to toss when the opposing party is threatened. It IS the elitists of that opposing party that is more apt to proclaim “elitism” against the other when threatened. What is most disheartening is that the oppressed common-folk supports those elitists that have oppressed them. Obama may not be the right skin color, but he is a man with passion to “even the playing field,” but the “returning champions” often prevail by using the old, but useful, corrupt playbook. History repeats itself, time and again, and yet, we fail to break the habits that keep us erring on the side of destruction.

  39. 39 Snoop-Diggity-DANG-Dawg Sep 20th, 2008 at 9:27 pm

“Obama may not be the right skin color…”

Hey, well thanks for so adeptly avoiding the race card, Shallie. I guess it really is impossible for anyone to have a principled disagreement with Obama’s political platform.

How could anyone not want socialized healthcare? Or ballooning taxes in a very soft economy? Or willful capitulation to the world’s tyrants? Or federally funded late-term abortions? And how could anyone not want a president who isn’t quite sure that America is a good place and a force for freedom & prosperity?

All those reasons must be ‘red herrings’. The only possible reason for someone to not vote for Obama is the colr of his skin. Got it.
