Hayden Panettiere’s Dad Charged With Misdemeanor Battery

Heroes star and dolphin crusader/leather handbag designer Hayden Panettiere’s father was charged with misdemeanor battery yesterday, following his drunken assault on his wife.

Alan Panettiere faces up to a year in a Los Angeles County jail if convicted. He was arrested on Aug. 11 on suspicion of striking his wife, Lesley.

At the time, a sheriff’s spokesman said Panettiere was accused of hitting his wife three times with an open hand. The 49-year-old was later released on $50,000 bail after the arrest. His arraignment will be held in October at a Beverly Hills courthouse.

Jail records did not indicate an attorney for Panettiere.

First of all, how odd is it that Hayden hasn’t ponied up for a lawyer for good ol’ Dad.

Unless maybe she no longer believes her dad beating up her mom was “absolutely nothing.” Which, duh.

Truthfully, I think she’s letting him deal with it on his own because she wants to remove herself from the situation as much as possible. After “defending” him back when it happened, which I think was just her way of trying not to make a huge public issue out of it, right or wrong, it’s probably the smart thing to do.

Hayden obviously doesn’t understand how the legal system works. She’s too busy filming movies and lecturing others on being in school to receive a proper education.

“…Hayden hasn’t ponied up for a lawyer for good ol’ Dad.”

Yes… Why didn’t she get a lawyer for her “father”? (First off, he isn’t her real father, but we can talk about that later)

It wouldn’t be because her father was helping himself to her little coke stash, would it? And when mommy caught him in the act he pounded her in a cocaine-fueled rage?

I understand why she isn’t ponying up for a lawyer. After seeing the craptastic Heroes opener (a show I loved in it’s first season) she needs to be saving her money for when it’s canceled.

Elizabeth Edwards speaks at the Westin in Mount Laurel, NJ tommorow.

Change is what brings Edwards to Cooper Hospital’s Women’s Health and Wellness Conference for women over 50 on Saturday at the Westin Mount Laurel. At 59, she has experienced the loss of a teenage son, two battles with breast cancer and the public humiliation of her husband’s infidelity. It’s not a stretch to imagine Edwards’ keynote speech will resonate with its middle-age audience.

Talk of John Edwards’ affair is off limits, but his wife is anxious to discuss other issues. She is now a senior fellow with the Center for American Progress think tank in Washington.

This seems kind of off limits to me. It’s not really a public stance or anything that paints Panettiere as a hypocrite. If she had a hugely public situation, it makes sense that she would say something to get the media to shut up. I mean, you criticized Ms. Edwards for ‘feeding the beast’ of the media by not just saying ‘yes’ to inquiries about whether she and her husband were on good standing, right? Panettiere was likely just trying to get the spotlight off the situation.

Elizabeth Edwards allegedly spoke last night at the Conneticut forum on:

“The Presidency: Historians and Insiders Reflect on the Office, Democracy and the Future.”

Strangely, I’m betting no one asked her what the legacy of John Edwards’ attempt on the office will be.

    His fall from grace, perhaps?

Elizabeth Edwards is opening a furniture store in Chapel Hill called “The Red Window”

Q:Is it true you are going into the furniture business?

A: Yes, in Chapel Hill. It is called The Red Window and will open at the end of October. My mother had a charity store called The Red Door when we lived in Japan.
