Meet David Suzuki, Famous (Occasional) Environmentalist

Canadians know (and either love or sneer at) David Suzuki as the king of eco-living and green movement cash-flow in the land of “eh?” Americans: Think of Al Gore with the assumed credibility of the late Carl Sagan.

But Winnipeg Sun columnist Tom Brodbeck found a different Suzuki today. And he smells like diesel fumes:

I notice David Suzuki himself didn’t “walk the talk” when he did his 40-city, rock star tour of Canada last year.

Remember that one? The chief frog counter driving all over hell’s half-acres in his own private diesel tour bus?

That’s right. Not a train or a hybrid vehicle as his foundation wants everybody else to travel in.

A bus. A diesel bus with a bunch of crew members on board. Not a bio-diesel bus, either. Straight up diesel — no ice …

If politicians should take trains and hybrid vehicles on their tours, why didn’t Suzuki do it on his tour?

Because he’s a hypocrite, that’s why.

If he had set an example by using wagons and rickshaws during his dog-and-pony road show, he’d be in a position to do some lecturing.

But he’s not.

Oh, but he was carbon neutral during that tour, his excited little surrogates exclaim. He offset his carbon emissions with carbon credits. You know, when you invest enough money into methane capturing devices in Bangladesh garbage dumps to supposedly offset your emissions here? … It’s like they never polluted at all.

On Suzuki’s “please give us your Loonies and Twonies” web page, he waxes on about how his foundation is “looking for the underlying root causes of our destructiveness so that we can find genuine solutions toward sustainability.

Uh-huh.

    I love it.

I grew with Mr. Suzuki and his green movement. He has been on the environmental bandwagon for quite some time. Good or bad. But what he won’t tell you is that he is unto himself and industry.

Not singling you out here, I actually agree with you – it just scares me that 20 years from now my daughter (who is only 2 1/2) will probably be typing the exact same thing about Al Gore.

Some things can never be un-seen.
Thanks, Deceiver, for burning that image of a naked Suzuki into my brain forever.

I hate carbon offsets…its the lazy man’s and elitist’s way of feeling good about themselves without out actually having to do shit!

Just last year we (the extended family and I, we all live next door to each with 10 acres each) built 3 windmills that generate about 1 kilowatt for only $300 each. Thats doing something!

Typical “What the Hell are yo thinking” moment.

The whole environment thing is turning into a religion lately.

A little generous with the leaf? I mean, he is Asian.

    What? He is.

Environmentalcrites are the worst of the lot behind PETAcrites.

I think I’d take this story a lot more seriously if the source wasn’t one of the trashiest, anti-progressive, right-wing papers in Canada. The Winnipeg Sun notoriously lambastes left-wing politicians and activists like the thought police.

I don’t put much weight into these claims. I’m sure it was better to cross the country in a bus (there’s a crew to consider as well) versus airline travel. Stupid.

Yeah! Shame on that right leaning paper for exposing a guy for the hypocrite that he is. What if I needed a giant Chevy Suburban SUV to cart around five kids? Could I consider them a crew too? Or does that only apply to people that want to tell me how to live?

    Erin…

You crack me up. I don’t care if Pee-Wee Herman tells me about it. Is it true? Can you say it is a lie? Then it doesn’t matter who reports it.

Did he used a Bio-fuel, solar powered, hybrid Bus? Than the story is factual, which is something the left wing press can’t handle, I know.

I bet you he used more than one sheet of Toilet paper too!
