From London’s Observer on Sunday:
Animal rights activists are nothing if not consistent. It was surprising, therefore, to see vegan actress Daryl Hannah, a supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, wearing suede boots to Richard Branson’s party last week. “They were my mum’s,” she explained. “I only wear leather when it’s a gift.”
This reminds me of the deal where PETA is giving fur coats to goat-herders in Africa. You see, it’s okay because they’re gifts.
I like this new vegan-of-convenience ethos. Maybe we can get Omaha Steaks to send Pam Anderson, Alec Baldwin, and Alicia Silverstone a few cases of New York strips. Just tell ‘em Darryl says it’s okay to dig in if you don’t actually pay for it.
Hell, I might just send a Smithfield ham to PETA headquarters, just for kicks.
