Does someone really have to go a and brick some vacuous celebs home for them to get the point and for the media to call them on it?

Exactly what does it take to cure this myopia?

Bruce Friedrich has indeed advocated violence on several occasions. The most famous example was at the 2001 national animal rights conference. We have the audio archived at:

Here’s the transcript. Remember, this is PETA’s Vice-President, and a self-proclaimed Catholic pacifist:

“If we really believe that these animals do have the same right to be free from pain and suffering at our hands, then, of course we’re going to be, as a movement, blowing stuff up and smashing windows. For the record, I don’t do this stuff, but I do advocate it. I think it’s a great way to bring about animal liberation … I think it would be a great thing if all of these fast-food outlets, and these slaughterhouses, and these laboratories, and the banks that fund them exploded tomorrow. I think it’s perfectly appropriate for people to take bricks and toss them through the windows, and everything else along the line. Hallelujah to the people who are willing to do it.”

That goes along with Bruce Friedrich’s attitude that people who consume the Eucharist aren’t breaking their vegetarian vows since Christ is willingly giving His Body and Blood in the sacrament.

A few years ago PETA had it’s “Jesus was a vegetarian” campaign going full-swing, and after digging a little bit, I found out that the guy over that campaign is Roman Catholic. So I wrote to him and asked him about his alleged vegetarianism and how it conflicts with the Roman Catholic doctrine of transubstantiation.

Isn’t Friedrich the same head guy at PETA who got into trouble some years ago for encouraging the PETA faithful to go out and blow up slaughterhouses, restaurants, and medical research labs? I wonder where the Catholic catechism stands on that …

So I wrote to him and asked him about his alleged vegetarianism and how it conflicts with the Roman Catholic doctrine of transubstantiation.

Needless to say, he was not a happy camper. Not long after I wrote to them they updated the FAQ section of their site, explaining that someone can be a vegetarian and still consume the Eucharist because Christ willingly gives His Body and Blood in the sacrament.

Moral of this story? You can eat all the meat you want, wear all the fur and leather you want, as long as it was willingly given to you, and you’ll still be a Petarded vegan in good standing.
