Lindsay Lohan’s GF Pays Perez Hilton’s Legal Fees

Ugh, some people get away with murder. Or at least with mudslinging.

Last year, Samantha Ronson sued trash blogger Perez Hilton after he posted that she gave Lindsay Lohan cocaine the night LiLo was popped for a DUI. Ronson was seeking damages for the defamatory gossip.

But no. A judge ordered her to pay Hilton’s legal fees, which she did this week — to the tune of $87,000. Ouch.

That seems excessively punitive given that there’s no way Perez could have known whose cocaine it was when Lindsay was stopped. And likely, it was defamation — he’s made a hobby of slamming Ronson and Lohan. (I’m not even going to comment on the hypocrisy of his gay bashing, but I hope his good friend Paris is paying him enough for him to sleep at night.)

Not to mention it seems so petty given Perez’s penchant for dragging people into court over some bullshiz. If I were SamRo, I’d want to make sure my money wasn’t funding any of his other legal escapades.

Lame! He used the “freedom of speech” defense. So if I were to take out a full page ad accusing Perez of snorting cocaine off the thighs of high school boys, would I get to use the same defense when he dragged my ass to court?

Perez Hilton fails in the category of people I just can’t find the time to pity. I wish him the worst.

Perez Hilton is a disgusting representation of the Cuban American community. As a member of said community, we take no responsibility, we don’t claim him, and we hope you don’t think all of us are like that. :P

To win a libel or slander case and you’re a public figure (a celebrity for example), you have to show that 1) the libel or slander is false and 2) the libel or slander was done out of malice. Truth is an absolute bar to libel or slander and good luck proving malice, even from Perez Hilton. If Ronson has to pay his legal fees, that means her case was really flimsy.

Sorry, the first sentence in my response was a bit mangled! To win a libel/slander case, a public figure must show it was false and it was published/said with malice.
