How many times do I need to say this?
Penn Badgley and Blake Lively from Gossip Girl star in a new McCain-focused ad from MoveOn.org, made in the style of an anti-drug commercial.
Yes, they really say, “Voting Republican even once can have disastrous effects that last for years.”
Now, before I get accused of being a “budding Republican” again, let me assure you that I am not. Deceiver is a nonpartisan blog but the accusation that I’m a Republican, budding or otherwise, is truly laughable.
That said, Dan and Serena would have been better off keeping their political views in their pants after appearing in this ad. Tell me, do they believe it’s still important to come out on Election Day if you’re voting for the other guy? All the dancing in the world couldn’t get me to buy that.

Yeah you tell ‘em Holly! I’m not a Republican eith- Wait a minute. What’s that black kid doing on my street?
And it is the ACORN Democrats that claim (in a figment of their drug-addled brains) that Republicans are trying suppress the vote by making unreasonable demands, e.g., valid names and addresses on registration forms and produce a (usually, free) government-issued ID when you show up to vote.
This is very similar to those folks who are your “friends” right up until they find out you have different opinions than theirs (Democrat vs. Republican, pro-life vs. pro-choice, Christian vs. secular, Coke vs. Pepsi). Then you can just see their eyes deaden and their smiles get fake.
Any by the way, who’s surprised that Moveon.org is pulling this kind of crap? They’ve got millions of dollars, a stable full of willing celebrities, and an absolutely ruthless drive to win at all costs.
Yeah, like Mickey Mouse is REALLY going to show up and vote. Tsk, tsk!
Not to change the subject but…

Our old pal Fred Baron, a central figure in the John Edwards mess, is in a bad way…
I mean….it’s pretty low, and obviously extremely partisan, but…it’s kinda funny right? “Just because your friends are doing it, doesn’t mean it’s cool….” Ha!
Sorry.
Although on second thought, maybe it’s just PERSONALLY funny to me, because my parents are Republican – not because they actually have strong and intelligent opinions on the issues, but because THAT’S JUST THE WAY THINGS SHOULD BE AND STOP ASKING QUESTIONS AND OH MY GOD OBAMA IS BLACK AND MUSLIM AND A TERRORIST …and there’s really no reasoning behind it, that I’ve heard from them. So, there it is.
Deceiver people: You should really stay out of politics unless you are digging up more interesting stuff on Rielle Hunter, which was actually interesting in a twisted sort of way. I don’t even understand the Deceiver position on the above “Vote No McCain” babble. And I’m voting for Obama. Please try to be clear on what the message is when you post stuff.
You skipped the headline?
Hey, those two douches would make someone vote Republican, just to annoy them.
PJ – interesting that a man that has become rich suing companys like Biogen now needs the drugs that they make.
Just because a couple of empty-headed actors are doing it doesn’t make it cool!
I’m thisclose to making one of those ranty bugger-off-Hollywood YouTube movies. Anyone who needs the opinion of a pop star or a second-rate actor on a second-rate smutty teen show to choose a candidate ought to automatically lose the right to vote. Any such person is a brainless moron and unfit to participate in a democracy. I have more respect for a hardcore socialist who knows exactly what Obama stands for and thinks they are all good reasons to vote for him than some bimbo who wants to vote for Obama because Sarah Silverman, Justin Timberlake, and her favorite OTP on Gossip Girl are all voting for him.
…what? Alright, I’m quite far left (Dennis Kucinich is my homefry) and this pisses me off. People have the right to vote for WHOEVER THEY WANT. Ads like this take away the right of thinking for one’s self….I’m just not continuing.
But, for the love of FSM, I hope Obama wins.
When are you guys gonna look into McLovin’s fake Hawaiian birth certificate? I also heard he registered 50 times to vote in Ohio.
RE: Kari – “Ads like this take away the right of thinking for one’s self”
Well, the “right” is still there. If someone is convinced to vote against McCain primarily because of this ad, I’m not sure if the ad itself is the only problem. Yes, the ad is dishonest, but if someone is that easily swayed, chances are they don’t practice thinking for them self very often in other areas of life anyway, right? I wouldn’t go so far as to say that it’s the ad’s fault.
“Yah there right, America should have never voted into office a Republican like Abraham Lincoln and allowed him to declare his Emancipation Proclamation with its horrible ramifications.” I have a feeling they wouldn’t agree with that. This ad just goes too far.
they’re*
Now there’s hypocrisy for you. It’s what you do, not what you say, that matters.
You know, adverts like this wouldn’t need to be created if America had compulsory voter attendance like Australia does.
