Isaiah Washington Appalled By Latest Grey’s Anatomy Cast Change

Apologies if this is a spoiler but if you haven’t watched your Tivo’d episode of Grey’s Anatomy from last Thursday yet, you probably have too many Season Passes. Step up your TV watching, people.

Isaiah Washington, who was famously fired from the show for using homophobic slurs about co-star T.R. Knight, is shocked and dismayed that Brooke Smith was axed in the last episode.

He opines to TV Guide:

“I looked at a brilliant actress, whom I have adored since I first saw her in Silence of the Lambs,” he says in the Nov. 17 issue of TV Guide. “For her to be treated this way, I find very interesting.”

“The fact is that, just before the holidays, you have a mother, a wonderful actress removed from a steady income without the proper reasoning behind it…” he says.

“You look at the way another consummate professional [is] being treated because her character, her story line [has] potentially made producers uncomfortable … Now that I see what they’re doing to a show that I love and I care about, I think it’s disgusting. The fact that Shonda [Rhimes, the show's creator] has been put in this position is extremely unfair.

“It’s unfortunate because it was probably, at the time, the most progressive show on television,” he says. “Now I see it [being] systematically torn apart.”

Shonda Rhimes has said Brooke Smith’s firing had nothing to do with her role on the show as a lesbian, and that instead it was a chemistry issue.

So what does Isaiah Washington think Grey’s Anatomy should do to rectify this gross injustice?

“Bring Burke back!” Washington says.

So he would return to the show, despite all the drama? “Absolutely!”

Replace a gay character with a possibly reformed, certainly regretful gay-hating actor? How absolutely not self-serving of him to suggest.

I never could get into this show. Hospital soap operas don’t appeal to me.

This furthers my belief that Isaiah is nuts. Why on earth would he want to go back to Grey’s Anatomy? Didn’t just about everyone on the cast want him fired? Does he think it would be fun to hang with TR Knight? Oh, yeah, Isaiah can’t seem to find a job anywhere because of his toxic reputation so why not go back to Grey’s?

What’s Grey’s Anatomy again? Judging by that picture and story it’s the tale of an aristocratic looking black dude and some lesbians. Sounds rockin’.

This is self-serving to the extremes. I can’t believe the boldness (or the idiocy) of that man.

On another subject; let’s remember the last US elections. Do we remember all the laws passed to definite a marriage as between a man and a woman in some States? It is strange that States that have elected Obama also supported those propositions. Maybe Black-Americans have some prejudice themselves.

Had somebody sit me down to watch the show once after the Super Bowl. Ranked right up there with the worst in TV. Terrible dialogue. Terrible acting. Nothing of worth.

Fo’ serious. I should consider myself lucky that my paternal overlords allow me license to speak so freely.

Kelli how can you not watch Greys? I know I appreciate the most whiny and irritating lead character since Callista Flockhart on Ally McBeal. Even better is the use of Mc attached to something else, i.e McSteamy, McDreamy, McSlutty (who the fuck knows?) Or the relentless patter, massive lack of professionalism meshed in the with ABC After School Special message of the week. I loved when Meredith was knocked into the Puget Sound and “died” only to be revived after being “dead” for quite a while, meets her mom in the netherworld, then back to work the next day. Or George hooking up with Izzy after just getting married. Asshole Isaiah was the least of their problems (and I stopped watching two years ago too. I wish Kevin McKidd would star on a cool show that would stay on the air.)

I think that there is a problem with these TV shows trying so hard to prove their liberal bonafides. I don’t watch the show. Watched it maybe twice and found it very very superficial and the actors so so unbelievable. Especially Chandra Wilson. Ugh. La Pompeo? What is the big deal, man?

But, OK, they want to do the ”right” thing, have lesbian relationships, etc. But what do they do? I read on another site, that the character ”learning” to be a lesbian actually asks another character how to perform a sex act on her new lesbian lover.

What! Is that truly necessary? What is that all about, people?? Do hetero characters ask each other how to perform sex acts on prime time TV? So why do homosexual ones do? And why would that be so dar* important to the story?

The writers of these made-up liberal worlds where all men are potentially homo and all women are potentially homo is ludicrous. That, I believe, is why actors suddenly get, pardon the pun, a pink slip. It’s too much about wanting to not so subtly indoctrinate viewers. Most people don’t need or want to know how lesbians get it on. And those that do don’t need some TV show to tell them how.more about the relationship and less about the sex.

I know someone who worked in research at ABC. An actor on another show was going to come out of the closet. She recounted the flurry of “elevator activity, bringing executives down to her floor then back up to the executive level all day.” In the end, the research found that this actor coming out would, “Not play well in Peoria,” so the announcement was killed. Conveniently, the actor was found a spouse and soon began breeding.
Since Grey’s had such high ratings, ABC was willing to give them some leeway. However, since their show is so amazingly annoying for so many reasons, less and less people are watching. I don’t know about “subtle indoctrination,” as I have seen lesbian stuff in the past and have zero desire to chomp on a cooch. Not even as part of some fun college expirimentation. But, I guess we are all different.

Am I the only one who finds this guy creepy? And kind of ugly?

  15. 15 Pastafarian Nov 12th, 2008 at 9:52 pm

I know I’m sick of all the gay people on TV. Even gay people must be sick of all the gay people on TV. Have you ever seen that one show, with Heidi Klum? The designing show? All those flamboyant bitchy gay guys? If I was a gay guy I would be tired of seeing that. I dare you to try and sit through a couple of hours of Bravo. If “TV” is trying to make gay people more mainstream their not doing a very good job. I usually wind up wanting to punch those guys in the face.
