The Oversneer mentioned Pamela Anderson and her leather-wrapped Dodge Viper yesterday, and with the news from the U.K. fashion rags today, I’ve come to the conclusion that Pamela simply doesn’t understand where leather comes from.
According to U.K. Vogue, she has signed on to be the new face for Vivienne Westwood’s fashion line. Now, everyone knows that you don’t hire Pammie for her face. But the real questionable decision here is that while Vivienne Westwood may no longer work with fur, she sure does love to design with leather and feathers. You know, the kind from barnyard animals and birds.
Like this fuchsia leather suit from her Spring 2009 collection, or the iconic Queen of Sheba dress made with ostrich feathers, which has been worn by Demi Moore and Linda Evangelista.
I mean, the woman dressed the Sex Pistols. Westwood and Malcolm McLaren, the band’s manager and her former lover, were all about the animal skins (like the Bondage Suit made famous by Johnny Rotten). In a biography of the designer, New York Magazine calls her signature look “skintight leather with tons of zippers.”
There is no wiggle room in a Vivienne Westwood leather suit, just like there’s no wiggle room when you are arguably PETA’s most famous spokeswhore but just can’t seem to help yourself around a closet full of lambskin.
