Is Madame Secretary Of State’s Résumé a Wee Bit Inflated?

Here’s part of a public statement from Barack Obama’s presidential campaign back on March 11:

There is no doubt that Hillary Clinton played an important domestic policy role when she was First Lady. It is well known, for example, that she led the failed effort to pass universal health insurance. There is no reason to believe, however, that she was a key player in foreign policy at any time during the Clinton Administration.

She did not sit in on National Security Council meetings. She did not have a security clearance. She did not attend meetings in the Situation Room. She did not manage any part of the national security bureaucracy, nor did she have her own national security staff. She did not do any heavy-lifting with foreign governments, whether they were friendly or not. She never managed a foreign policy crisis, and there is no evidence to suggest that she participated in the decision-making that occurred in connection with any such crisis.

As far as the record shows, Senator Clinton never answered the phone either to make a decision on any pressing national security issue -- not at 3 AM or at any other time of day.

When asked to describe her experience, Senator Clinton has cited a handful of international incidents where she says she played a central role. But any fair-minded and objective judge of these claims -- i.e., by someone not affiliated with the Clinton campaign -- would conclude that Senator Clinton’s claims of foreign policy experience are exaggerated.

Heck of a résumé for Secretary of State, no?

Here’s Barack Obama’s statement about Madame Secretary today:

I have known Hillary Clinton as a friend, a colleague, a source of counsel, and as a campaign opponent. She possesses an extraordinary intelligence and toughness, and a remarkable work ethic. I am proud that she will be our next Secretary of State. She is an American of tremendous stature who will have my complete confidence; who knows many of the world’s leaders; who will command respect in every capitol; and who will clearly have the ability to advance our interests around the world.

Hillary’s appointment is a sign to friend and foe of the seriousness of my commitment to renew American diplomacy and restore our alliances. There is much to do — from preventing the spread of nuclear weapons to Iran and North Korea, to seeking a lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians, to strengthening international institutions. I have no doubt that Hillary Clinton is the right person to lead our State Department, and to work with me in tackling this ambitious foreign policy agenda.

For once, a reporter in attendance noticed the odd smell of hypocrisy in the room. Go figure:

I’m still making those John Stewart eye-rubbing gestures at Obama’s statement that “I think she is going to be a outstanding Secretary of State.” (If you didn’t watch the whole video, cue it up to 2:52. Considering George Bush’s well-documented Yogi Berra-like speech patterns, this does not bode well for “change.”)

And don’t forget about her lying about being under fire in Bosnia.

I think the new Elected Prez is also a bit on the inflating of Resume’s. After all he managed to convince half the country he was an outsider to washington and all about change.

Whats the current count of past Clinton staff members in his cabinet now????

Well as a non yank you elected this muzzie terrorist

Back at you John, I was part of the 42% who voted against the Annointed One.

Criminey, two sentences in and my left eye gets to twitchin’ something fierce.

John, it should also be noted that, according to the popular vote, Obama only won by about seven million votes. That’s hardly a mandate.

You know, the one (and only) thing I actually appreciated about Barak Obama was that he destroyed the primacy of the Clinton machine from American politics.

And then what does Mr. Hopey-changey do? He puts the stupid pant-suit-bitch right back in our faces for four. more. years.

    Thanks, Barak.

Snoop, it’s not just the person that Neal Boortz calls “the Hildabeest”.

Obama brought in a whole bunch of former Clinton advisers and employees.

This is from the man who campaigned as being an “agent of change” and a “Washington outsider”.

I’ll be wearing my hip-boots for the next four years.

“Do what I say or I’m siccing Cankles on ya!”

    “Nooooo, Mr. Obama, pleeaaase…”

The question is whether this will give Billy Jeff more or fewer opportunities to bang some blondes.

Dammit! It is so unsettling that this woman was put in a position as important as this. She’s so abrasive I see her offending many of the women-oppressing Muslim countries in the world thinking she is an exception to the rule.

Wait..I guess she WOULD be the exception, since she has a penis.

  12. 12 MC Mom Dec 2nd, 2008 at 5:31 pm

I kind of like Hillary for having nards and being so abrasive. I mean, look what she has to put up with at home. (And I’m not talking about Chelsea.) Though she does have cankles something fierce.

And California Dave, not to be cynical about politics or anything (although as an anti-party independent, that’s part of my job description), but when *haven’t* we had to wear hip-boots when listening to Washington?

    Yep- trtue to form.

From the get go it was obvios Obama was and is a fraud. He’s a piss poor speaker when thinking off the cuff and will say anything at anytime to anyone if it suits his purposes.

Good job America. Affirmative Action strikes again!

The Clinton people who did NOTHING after the FIRST Trade Center bombing (except bomb a baby milk factory) and now back running the show.

Al Quada must be laughing themselves silly.

I tired of the Overneer’s obvious conservative leanings. We all know what happens in elections, just like any other contest. If you want hipocracy, why don’t you pick on the current administrations, who has more than their share, rather than nit-picking everything you hear about Obama. I might not agree with him 100%, but he is better than what we have.

  17. 17 Habanada Dec 2nd, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Gosh, I’m glad finally someone else noticed that the Dali Bama can’t string three words together without an “um” gluing them together. I thought I was going to go crazy during the election with “eloquent Sen. Obama” this and that. “Am I the only one hearing this??” I thought. “And they say Pres. Bush is bad!” I cried. I kind of expect Obama to sign of with, “And th-th-th-that’s all, f-folks!”

  18. 18 Pastafarian Dec 2nd, 2008 at 8:51 pm

Uh Julie… In a few weeks Obama will be the “current administration”. Would it be okay to question Him then? Or would you prefer not at all.

  19. 19 Bruce Dec 2nd, 2008 at 11:04 pm

You should NEVER EVER criticize the holder of the “Office of the President-Elect” because it is an imaginary office with zero authority and making fun of idiots makes you look foolish.

LMAO! These are some of the most amazing comments I’ve ever read on Deceiver… between this and the post, you’ve really outdone yourselves.

Can’t you just see the thoughts boiling in Obama’s head? “Did he question me? How dare he question me? How did he get in here? Did that typical white person just dare to wonder if I’ve done something wrong? Excuse me, Strickland, can we get a records search over here?”

When I heard Hillary make that speech at the Democratic convention supporting Obama I asked my husband “how much did she get paid to say that”? Now we know. She will not do or say anything that does not benefit her in some way. I’m sure her opinions of Obama haven’t changed but I guess if you can’t beat them join them.

  23. 23 D---- Dec 3rd, 2008 at 2:29 pm

I think this is a good move by Obama. Put her in, send her to the middle east to solve the Isreal/Palestnian thingie, watch her fail and you have just eliminated a strong political rival!

  24. 24 Kristine Dec 3rd, 2008 at 7:17 pm

Does it count as hypocrisy that it’s technically illegal for her to serve in this position? http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/11/19/hillary_clintons_fix.html

I am from Arkansas, and have been floored that the Hill and Bill story just keeps on rolling. I was dismayed that New York was actually stupid enough to elect Hillary to the senate. I mean, New Yorkers are supposed to be so much smarter than us poor, stupid Arkies. I was thrilled that Obama managed to beat her out, and she would not be president. Now, here we go with her in another position so that I have to see her face on tv night after night. Hill and Bill have always been about whatever was opportunistic for them. Bill had numerous affairs while Governor, and those women (stupid as they may have been for getting involved with him) were ridiculed and trampled under the feet of the “friends of Bill” who were determined to get him elected president. Hillary was of course aware of his zipper issues, which continued in the White House, but chose to go along to further her career. It’s amazing to me that so many women worship her. She is the absolute opposite of what I try to be, or what I would want my daughter to be – someone who claims to be such a modern woman, but has used her affiliation with a man to get where she is. Hypocrite is the mildest term I know for her.

  26. 26 Jill Dec 5th, 2008 at 3:15 pm

My take on this is that it means Hillary has given up her aspirations for the presidency. If Obama fails miserably to fulfill people’s expectations, she won’t be able to step up as the dem candidate in 2012 because of her close ties to the Obama administration. If not, Obama will continue to be the dem choice, and she’ll be too old (especially because women do not look more “distinguished” with age) for serious consideration in 2016.
