Man, if I were Oprah, I think I’d fire this hack.
Her personal trainer Bob Greene wrote a column for CNN.com entitled “How Not To Gain It All Back.” You’d think that with the kind of money Oprah surely pays him, he would have shared some of this wisdom with her before she regained 40 pounds.
Some of his advice (notice how he lets himself off the hook and never suggests “lifestyle change”):
Recently, in fact, experts have started comparing the struggle to slim down with the difficulty of breaking an addictive habit. Research suggests that it often takes a number of attempts before people are able to kick cigarettes or give up alcohol for good; this might also be true for weight loss.
…
So here’s the good news: Instead of thinking, “I’ve failed over and over again, why bother trying again?” take your relapse in stride and stay positive no matter how many attempts it takes you. Each new effort brings you closer to the one that might really work. The key is to stick with it until you achieve your weight and health goals — that’s my definition of a true success story.
Just another guy with no credentials getting rich off his Oprah connections. Sound like anyone else?

Here’s my big supersecret weight loss plan. Eat less and exercise. Can I have my million dollars now?
Here’s my Oprah connection–this one time, I watched when she had George Lucas on the show.
Can I be rich off that? It’d be really convenient.
You know what’s sad? It really is that simple barring medical conditions, bigmama, but everyone wants to use a gimmick, somehow cheat, or be part of a fad. That’s why people like Oprah get ripped off, and the idiots that think she is the end all, also end up getting ripped off.
As a personal trainer I must agree with his comments. You can never stop trying. For some people food is a drug and everyday is a challange.
However, as her trainer didn’t he notice the changes in O’s body? Or was he too busy writing articles for papers.
Bigmama, you know that the Stars are not suppose to follow common sense rules, they don’t apply to them, hence why they are stars.
Bigmama, I have the “part II” of your plan-
Tell people who can’t do part I correctly that it isn’t their fault, that they didn’t fail, and that they can pay me a million dollars to try again!
Well the oldest trick in the book is for diet products and diet gurus to sell you the idea that you failed…. when in truth diets are designed to fail. They are unnatural, rely on the fickly misnomer called ‘will power.’ Check out the research, we’ve being getting progressively fatter ever since dieting has become more prevalent! When I finally gave up dieting and started listening to my body- my 30 year long struggle with my weight ended, because slowly and over time the weight came off by itself. Irony is, I never needed any of those ka-zillion diets I blew my bucks on!
Lisa, I think the thing about being the all powerful Oprah means, if Oprah is gaining weight, you don’t tell her unless she asks you tell her if she looks like she has been gaining weight. Years ago, a friend of mine was on the show as a subject matter expert. One of the first rules she was given? Do not contradict Oprah. I can only imagine if one of her staff suggested she not fork some mac n’ cheese into her mouth that they would be frightened of the wrath of the mighty O. Hence a huge weight gain.
Queen Bee, I think you’re friend’s experience just summed up neatly why I hate Oprah. She makes a zillion dollars to have a show where she tells you how to live and think. Does she know herself? No, but people will say she doesn’t have to. Sometimes she gets guests on the show who knows something and doesn’t just spout it out herself.
Of course, if the “experts” she has on aren’t allowed to contradict the big big O…well, we’re right back to taking everything just on her say-so, aren’t we?
Myself, I love to bring in experts and then have them muzzled so that they can’t tell me anything. Wait, no, that’s only for politicians and celebrities.
You’re right Queen Bee that’s probably what O should be ashamed of, not gaining weight, but being a spoiled *bleep*. :-p
