Obama Been Backpedallin’

slick_barryEverybody knows that the only reason we haven’t wiped out Osama Bin Laden is because George W. Bush is too busy lighting big fat cigars with $100 bills his oil company buddies gave him for invading Iraq. Also because Dubya’s too scared to go to Pakistan and look for the guy himself. What are ya, George, chicken? Bawk-bawk-bawk-bawwwwwk!!

Well, Obama’s not. He’s made it very clear that finding the murdering terrorist who’s escaped justice over the last 8 years (Bin Laden, I mean) is top priority:

President-elect Barack Obama wants to renew the U.S. commitment to finding al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, according to his national security advisers.

The Obama team believes the Bush administration has downplayed the importance of catching the FBI’s most-wanted terrorist because it has not been able to find him.

“We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority,” Obama said during the presidential debate on October 7.

Yes! Huddle in your little cave, you madman, because Obama is comin’ for you. Goodbye, international terrorism!

Eh? What’s that? Obama just said what?

Barack Obama suggested last night that removing Osama bin Laden from the battlefield was no longer essential and that America’s security goals could be achieved merely by keeping al-Qaeda “on the run”.

“My preference obviously would be to capture or kill him,” he said. “But if we have so tightened the noose that he’s in a cave somewhere and can’t even communicate with his operatives then we will meet our goal of protecting America.”

Oh. That’s definitely better than Bush’s plan. See, this is different than what we’ve been doing because… well, you know. It’s Obama. Why are you neocons always nitpicking? Why don’t you get on board the Hope train? Can’t you let us just have this one thing, you racists?

I had a feeling something like that would happen.

After 15 years of following politics pretty closely, kinda like a hobby, I swore them off, more or less, on November whatever the Hell the date was. But man this is gonna be an awesome four years. Obama is gonna be either a good president, a coasting, mediocre do nothing kind of president (that’s what I think), or the last Democrat as president for the next 20 years. Whatever happens America wins. And I get to watch the loony left, mouths agape as they realize “The Anointed One” has screwed them again even if they won’t admit it. That’s the best part. I hate conservatives, but I hate liberals even more, and this guys gonna screw them over big time.

    I Hope.

By the way Barak there are terrorists right here! Just follow Dempster Street east until you reach Northwestern University. You can’t miss it! Go get ‘em tiger! Rrroowwwrr!

I know a lot of folks who voted for Obama, not because they believed his Messiah hype but because…well…the Palin train seemed worse.

It’s nice to know it doesn’t matter how we ever vote b/c it’s going to be a hilariously screwed up 4 years anyway. I just now wish we could have had Obama and Palin in the whitehouse. More fun soundbites, is all I’m saying.

    Darn.

Cuz I was really looking forward to CNBC coverage of Obama leading sweeps of mountain caves backed up by his squadron of White House Press Corps. Dressed in black Nike track suits, of course.

“Helen, can you make it up the next ridge? If not, Martha’ll carry you. Broder, you cover me on the left, Gregory on the right, but wait for the signal. Axelrod… Jim… damn it man, get back here, you wuss! All right, on “hope”… one, two, HOOOOOOOOPE!”

Oh please, that isn’t backpedaling, that’s getting in, getting security briefings for two months and then deciding that there are much more important things to do thatn catch one guy who hasn’t really been much of an issue for the last few years. I for one and happy to see him downgrade this issue – there ARE more important things to do than spending the resources upping the hunt for Bin Laden.

Which shows that maybe people shouldn’t jump in so quick to make snide remarks about current U.S. foreign policies, including Mr. Obama(during his election campaign), when they don’t know what they are talking about.

  19. 19 Kurt Jan 15th, 2009 at 1:44 pm

So he was making ignorant campaign promises that no-one should be expected to hold him to because, well… they were ignorant.

After all, “Kill Bin-Laden” sounds a lot better (and much different from Bush) than “do what’s in this country’s best interest” to the masses, and getting Obama elected was more important than keeping campaign promises.

Then again, it’s better that our duly elected President-to-be come out as a lying, back-peddling ignoramus than to do what’s not in our best interest.

  20. 20 Simon Scowl Jan 15th, 2009 at 1:46 pm

Saying you want to kill him as a priority and then saying you don’t really need to do it isn’t backpeddling, lol

I guess not, it just seems that way to 99% of people with common sense.

Whatever you feelings are on the subject, he still backpeddeled. And do you mean to tell me the Messiah needed all those security briefings to know what was going on? So really, the press, the public, and the MESSIAH all might be wrong on a lot of information that the President has?

Strange how this is suddenly ok…

Eh. We let Bush things up for 8 years, let’s see what Obama’s got for us in this next 4. He hasn’t up yet, and he hasn’t succeeded yet, so hey, let’s just wait and watch. Imo, it’s too early to call.

P.S. I don’t think he’s the messiah, and I think that one, it’s blasphemous (lol) and two, that he’s just a man, and to deify him, is what might be his downfall. Expecting utter greatness out the gate is ridiculous. The winner in Cross Country is the steady player, not the one who bursts through the gate sprinting full speed.

  24. 24 Hurricane Jan 15th, 2009 at 2:48 pm

Sunshine- that weak argument of “Obama isn’t even president so we shouldn’t judge him” is just plain crap. You judge a man on his words and actions. Obama has provided plenty of words on what he stands for (or so we think he does- he does keep moving that bar) and his selection of people to his administration is the action in which we can judge him.

There is already plenty of information to determine how Obama is (and perhaps will be) and it doesn’t look good.

  25. 25 Kristine Jan 15th, 2009 at 3:05 pm

Love how liberals have watched Bush’s every move so long looking for everything to criticize that they have gone and elected someone with the exact same flaws.

“Bush isn’t going after bin Laden enough!” “Bush is too stupid to even deliver a sentence correctly!” “Bush nominates horrible, partisan people with bad pasts!” and so on and so forth.

  26. 26 angry army wife Jan 15th, 2009 at 3:07 pm

Obama has been talking a lot lately, even BEFORE he has officially taken office. I am quite tired of hearing him talk and he is not even President yet. Remind me, has any President been so outspoken before they have even taken office? And remind me why Osama is not a Priority? I clearly remember 9/11 and saying good-bye to my husband for over a year as he hunted the Taliban and Al-Queda in Afghanistan. Remember the first World Trade Center Bombing and the Cole bombing, when the CIA had Osama in their site and Clinton called off the hit?

  27. 27 D---- Jan 15th, 2009 at 3:35 pm

Sunshine – I hate to break it to you but Bush could not have things up all by his self.

We have this thing here called a legislative body that is privy to the same info the pres gets (ever hear of the Senate Intelligence Committee? or the Senate Finance Committee?) and yet I don’t hear any of them being blamed for our foriegn policy or economic mess.

“Who wants to bet me that Bin Laden is caught a couple months after Obama is inagurated? Kind of like the Iran hostages with Carter and Reagan. I’ll put a fiver on it.”

I will take that bet. Bin Laden has been dead for over 3 years, most intelligence agencies believe. He hasn’t been seen in public nor has he made any references on the “videos” he seems to release every year or so. They believe he succumbed to his long standing health issues.

But I do believe that the credit will be given to PEBO once this is discovered.

  31. 31 Sunshine Jan 15th, 2009 at 3:59 pm

D—, first off, the condescension is really not necessary. Second, that’s not true that the entire legislative body receives the same information as the president, being president, he is, by sheer virtue of his office, entitled to more information than the whole. And third, he has the power of veto, he has the power to compel, the power to set the agenda and a lot of other powers that aren’t named explicitly that many presidents before him have employed.

Hurricane: There is already plenty of information to determine how Obama is (and perhaps will be) and it doesn’t look good.

It’s interesting to see this, because 8 years ago and even 4 years ago, democrats were saying the same thing as republicans ran around saying “Bush is going to stop terrorism! He’s the key to success”.

Evidently there’s a lot of hypocrisy going around and I’m saying that, we have to remember that he is in a situation right now where he can’t fully reveal his plans, maybe because then someone can formulate a counterplan to mess it up or whatever.

  32. 32 Hurricane Jan 15th, 2009 at 4:14 pm

D- you know that is well over Sunshine’s head. It’s hard to think reasonably when you are so full of hope-n-change.

  33. 33 Kristine Jan 15th, 2009 at 4:21 pm

When they do get blamed, D—-, NBC just demands it get cut out of their SNL skits. Beside, I’m sure it’s Bush’s fault somehow that Obama has changed his mind like this. It’s also Bush’s fault that global warming is hidng behind my -13 low tonight.

Can we crown the entire Bush-bashing establishment the biggest hypocrits ever? On one hand, they believe Bush is too stupid to spell his own name, yet on the other they think he’s perpetrated some of the most manipulative, ingenius crimes in the history of the country. Huh???

  34. 34 Rocko Jan 15th, 2009 at 6:12 pm

No, no, Kristine. They think Bush is just a marionette and the string puller is Cheney.

Bush who graduated from Yale and Harvard while Obama graduated from Columbia and Harvard. Bush who is a recovering alcoholic while Obama’s hard drug use is in his past but he still smokes. Bush who when chided as being inexperienced chose a former Congressman, Senator and Cabinet member as his Vice President while Obama picked the the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Bush who brought in a lot of people from the first President Bush’s cabinet while Obama brings in a lot of people from the Clinton cabinet. This is obviously real change. They two men have nothing in common except for being birthed from a white womb and having both beat on John McCain’s silly moderate maverick Republican ass.

    Though I wouldn’t say he’s backpedaling Simon, I’d say he’s waking up.

  35. 35 D---- Jan 15th, 2009 at 6:14 pm

Sunshine – I apologize if I came off condescending, I was going for sarcastic…ha
I am not a Bush supporter but also do not buy into him being the root of all evil and a bufoon.

The Democrats have been calling him a corrupt liar and a fool and from day, and yet they have willingly gone along with his domestic and international agenda.

I am left to conclude that they were trying to give Bush enough rope to hang himself so that when elections came around they could easily get into office (which means they are self serving, power hungry and don’t give a damn about the “people” they claim to lead)

or their information led them to the same conclusion as Bush and they went along because they had no viable alternative to offer (which means Bush was doing the best he could)

or they Democratic leadership is completely incompetent and got out played by a drooling idiot.

  38. 38 jr565 Jan 15th, 2009 at 6:49 pm

Wasn’t it Bush who said it wasn’t that important that we get one man (OBL) since we were taking on the organization? Yet it was the left and the dems who were railing on Bush ad nauseum with endless talking points about how Bush was dropping the ball, was not even going after OBL. And now as soon as Obama gets into office he basically mirrors Bush’s words and many of his followers suddenly get in line as if they haven’t been using the very same pronunciation under Bush as their political punching bag?

Remember this little nugget from the campaign? When Mccain said he would follow OBL to the gates of hell but wouldn’t invade Pakistan and Obama followed with “John McCain says he will follow Osama bin Laden to the gates of hell, but he won’t even follow him to the cave where he lives.”
Well apparently neither will Obama.I thought that was a particularly shameful utterance when Obama made it, but even more doubly so considering he is reneging on it and hasn’t even set foot in office yet.

  39. 39 rrr Jan 15th, 2009 at 6:51 pm

“We let Bush things up for 8 years, let’s see what Obama’s got for us in this next 4.”

Apparently, four more years of Bush!!! After all, that’s not backpedaling! It’s simply ignoring the Chimpy McHitlerhalburton had it figured out all ready but we were too busy accusing him of war crimes to see it. But don’t worry; it will be spun that creation itself was the idea of the One.

  40. 40 John Jan 15th, 2009 at 6:51 pm

Hope & Change liberals got played, the stupid saps. It’s good to know that at least Obama is smart. We’re in uncharted waters now — who knows what this country will look like in 4 years?

Actually, it’s both. Now that he knows which way is up he’s changing course… which means he was talking out his… ahem… on the campaign trail.

It’s worth a note, an eye roll, and then I’ll move on. Because you’re right, better to listen to the briefings and make the smartest (most artful?) choice. Smashing their network of support is more important that catching Osama… which was W’s plan all along. ;)

  45. 45 Mister Snitch Jan 15th, 2009 at 7:25 pm

  46. 46 Qwinn Jan 15th, 2009 at 7:46 pm

Yeah, we can’t judge him yet.

Never mind that the media went nuts because Bush’s inaguration cost $50 million, complete with Congressional letters demanding that he spend the money on our troops instead. Not only that, but half the media orgy over it was spent complaining that the media wasn’t complaining enough about it. Today, Obama’s inaguration is looking to cost around $160 million, -if- it doesn’t snow, and the media couldn’t care less.

But, it’s too early to draw any comparisons. Right.

So in other words, Bush knew what he was talking about to begin with and all the endlessly carping lefty harpies screaming outrage for 8 years are full of crap after all? That’s good to know. and all it took was a few security briefings to show that Obama was essentially talking from his butt for the entirety of his campaign and had literally no basis for saying what he was saying.

I remember a “Saturday Night Live” skit back in December 1976. Dan Ackyroyd played President-elect Jimmy Carter addressing the nation from his peanut warehouse in Plains. He talked about how hard he had been working, reading memos and receiving briefings to prepare to assume the Presidency. He had come to one important conclusion: “Gerald Ford has been doin’ a helluva job!”

Apparently President-elect Obama has decided that George W. Bush has been doin’ a helluva job.

True on all counts, Rocko. I think it’s just the people who don’t actually believe this stuff but listen to the talking points who start making it sound like Bush is the smartest idiot ever… which isn’t the majority of people.

What they all seem to realize is that Obama has even more string-pullers than Bush could ever hope to have, which is why Obama can’t keep an opinion for more than five minutes.

  58. 58 Jannah Jan 16th, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Deceiver, that’s some interesting editing of my post. I understand why you trimmed it down, and that’s ok, but not sure why it’s between lines, like it was someone else’s quote. And where did “I think a … progress.” come from ? Not that I disagree with that text, but it’s not mine. Cheers!

  60. 60 Habanada Jan 16th, 2009 at 4:16 pm

I say Rocko wins this thread.

I’ve been thinking it since the election, but Obama’s whole campaign seemed to me to be the kid running for class president who stands up and promises, “Coca-Cola in the drinking fountains! Hot tubs in the bathtubs!” And he gets carried in on those ridiculous promises because he has catchier slogans than the other kids, but once he’s in place, he has no power, can affect nothing . . . and do you think this comes as a surprise to him?? NO! Either he’s retarded or he knew all along he was never going to get the school to put in hot tubs. Anything for the position–and the fools gave it to him.

So I’m not going to be a bit shocked every time Obama has to go back on something he promised. I’m just going to laugh, and laugh, and laugh, and laugh. And maybe at the end of four years, we’ll still have a freaking country. Thank goodness Deceiver will be here to help! :D
