A-Rod’s ‘Roids Make Him An A-Hole

Here’s Alex Rodriguez in 2007, talking to Her Perkiness Katie Couric (video loads after the obligatory douchey ad for CBS):

Couric: “For the record, have you ever used steroids, human growth hormone, or any other performance-enhancing substance?”

Rodriguez: “No.”

Couric: “Have you ever been tempted to use any of those things?”

Rodriguez: “No.”

Drum roll, please …

Oops.

Any contract attorneys out there want to explain to me just how he’s still going to collect $275 million from the Yankees?

Chris Brown Arrested for Assault, Rihanna The Alleged Victim

chris_brown_rihannaThe whole story of Chris Brown allegedly hitting Rihanna in the face is so crazy and sad that I almost don’t want to report on it, even though the celebrity blogosphere is on fire with the drama. Both musicians canceled their scheduled performances at last night’s Grammys immediately before the ceremony began, and today more is coming to light about what happened in the infamous car ride to the awards show.

(Long, involved summary here for those of you who are interested in the sordid details.)

But the saddest thing about Chris Brown beating up a woman, whether it’s Rihanna or not, is how he has spoken openly about his anger over his abusive childhood. From a 2007 interview:

“I don’t want to mention the person’s name — it wasn’t my real father — but somebody hurt my mom and me, I had to deal with that from seven all the way to 13. It affected me, especially (my behavior) towards women — I treat them differently. I don’t want to put a woman through the same thing that person put my mom through.

“I was scared and timid when I was little. I used to pee in my bed… I think it was me being nervous, and scared to get up (out of bed) and see what was going on. My mom used to try and hide it from me and my sister, but we knew. Anybody that’s going through it, just try to deal with it, talk it out.”

You don’t smack one of the most famous singers in the world and recover from the press backlash. The guy’s career is over, but I just hope he seeks out counseling.

Rock of Love’s Bret Michaels Still Living With His Baby Mama

rock_of_loveBret Michaels, star of VH1’s Rock of Love and aging lead singer for Poison, is defending his decision to continue filming a new season of Rock of Love even though he’s co-habitating with his ex-girlfriend and their two children together.

The Poison frontman is currently on season three of his VH1 dating show, but he was recently accused of living a lie — after it emerged he was still sharing a home with his former lover, Kristi Lynn Gibson, whom he dated for 11 years before splitting in 2005.

But Michaels has shot down the claims — insisting he and Gibson are simply doing what’s best for the sake of their two daughters, Raine, eight, and Jorja, three.

In an interview with Blender magazine, he says, “Everyone says that (the show’s a scam), because of my relationship with Kristi. I would never do the show if we were still together, and she wouldn’t be okay with that. She lives here in Scottsdale, (Arizona) with the kids.

“I have two other places, in Vancouver (Canada), and Los Angeles, and the rest of the time I spend on the road.

“When I stay here Kristi and I don’t sleep in the same bed. We’re best friends. My parents went through an extremely tough divorce and I vowed I wasn’t gonna put our kids through that.”

Months ago I called phony on the whole thing, but I didn’t realize he was living with his baby mama. And their daughters. For whom he wants to set an example.

Every rose indeed has its thorn.

In Which a Reader Cogently Defends Ashley Judd

Letters, we get letters! The following is presented in full and without alteration:

from:   Shane Grogg <E-mail redacted>

subject:   are you a republican? must be…

Cuz after not bothering w/ your page for months, I click on it and what do I find? The usual Obama-bashing(letting terrorists run free-c’mon) and, of course,Ashley Judd is a bitch cuz she had the nerve to criticize your frigid goddess Palin.
is your site sponsered bt Foxnews?
btw-Perez Hilton and Dlisted have got all this s*** covered-you are useless.

wolf-blitzerThanks for the reminder about Ashley Judd’s ill-informed campaign against caribou preservation in Alaska, Shane! Since you bring it up, it sounds like another state is having a similar problem with their wolves:

Idaho Fish and Game officials say the state’s wolf population is moving south and getting into trouble.

Fish and Game Director Cal Groen told the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee that Idaho’s estimated 824 wolves are impacting the state’s deer and elk population.

He says big game populations are decreasing by as much as 15 percent a year. Without the wolves, Idaho’s deer and elk herds would be increasing 7 percent a year.

Groen says the wolf packs have become overcrowded and wolves have begun to kill each other.

(Hat tip: QandO) Ya mean they’re not just big fluffy puppies? But don’t worry, Shane:

Federal Endangered Species Act protections were nearly lifted from the predators in the northern Rocky Mountains in January; the decision is currently under review by President Barack Obama’s administration.

State officials say Idaho needs to be able to manage the wolf population through hunting to protect the state’s big game animals.

Let’s hope Obama protects those innocent wolves from us mean ol’ humans… so they can kill each other instead.
