Chris Brown Is a Popular Fella, Ella, Ella, Eh, Eh, Eh

cbrYou might think Brown’s image has suffered over the past week. You might be wrong!

Despite his recently tarnished image, crooner Chris Brown may win an NAACP Image Award.

The 19-year-old singer, who’s accused in a domestic dispute that reportedly involves pop superstar Rihanna, is in the running for outstanding male artist at the 40th annual awards. The awards are being presented Thursday night at the Shrine Auditorium and airing on Fox…

It’s unclear if either Brown or Rihanna will attend.

Ya think? Yeah, if Brown wins, somebody might have to accept the award for him. Too bad Ike Turner is dead.

According to RadarOnline:

R&B singer Chris Brown held a secret meeting in Los Angeles on Thursday night with his family and close friends to discuss his bombshell arrest following an alleged altercation with Rihanna and the ensuing wave of bad press…

The source says Brown told his family and friends that he and Rihanna have “officially broken up”…

The source tells us Brown’s final words to everybody was [sic] “Protect me. I’m your homeboy”.

You probably didn’t realize that the real victim in all this, the one who needs to be protected, is Chris Brown. Look what you made him do, America.

“Chris Brown is unable to attend tonight, so accepting his award in the ‘It’s Everyone’s Image That Black Men Beat Their Women Category Anyway So Let’s Give Him an Award’ is Mike Tyson.”

Up next: That Italian guy down the street. Think he’s connected?

  2. 2 Beige Feb 13th, 2009 at 2:33 pm

“HOMEBOY”?!? I suppose he “hangs” with his “posse” and wears “bling”? Oh sweet smokin’ Caesar. That is…that’s…well, I don’t have a word for it, but whatever the word is, it sure is bad.

And in other news: Chris Brown is cataclysmically retarded, in every way that counts.

“Officially broken up”. Yeah, like her FACE, you psychotic dicksmack.

  3. 3 Hurricane Feb 13th, 2009 at 2:35 pm

Is is racist to say that everything the NCAAP does only makes them look like fools? Bush was right to not speak at their gatherings. A bunch of moronic and hateful people.

  4. 4 angry army wife Feb 13th, 2009 at 2:39 pm

Good Lord. Protect him. He is not the one who alledgely left someone with swollen eyes, cut lip and bite marks. I hope his career does suffer so that people will not glorify abuse.

  5. 5 bigmama Feb 13th, 2009 at 2:51 pm

Heh, heh Beige you said “dicksmack” I think that might be my new favorite word.

I can’t help that I have an inner 12 year old.

  6. 6 Beige Feb 13th, 2009 at 3:03 pm

    @Hurricane: No. No, it isn’t.

  7. 7 Scott F. Feb 13th, 2009 at 3:08 pm

The NAACP spends how much of it’s time decrying racial stereotypes? Then they go out of their way to glorify the very thugs and miscreants that they claim give the rest of them a bad name? Makes sense to me.

  8. 8 Beige Feb 13th, 2009 at 3:09 pm

Seriously, is there like an abusive douchebag HANDBOOK out there somewhere? Does Chapter 9 cover “How to Spin It So YOU Look Like the Victim”? Obviously getting pounded didn’t teach Brown anything, so forget that. Probably the worst thing that could happen to him is being cast into utter career darkness, being ignored for the rest of his stupid little life.

So that is what I will wish for him, as I bust out my special Wishing Saber and go to work on my Celebrity Suffering Surrogate. Heh. Best part: It’s great cardio!

  9. 9 winewife Feb 13th, 2009 at 4:04 pm

What a shock. What a total freaking shock.

  10. 10 Minnow Feb 13th, 2009 at 4:39 pm

Oh Scott, you should’a been near Detroit when the NAACP when to bat for Kwame Kilpatrick.

We needed hip waders to get south of 8 Mile.

  11. 11 MC Mom Feb 13th, 2009 at 4:51 pm

Apparently Brown is reaching out to some lovely people who will help him rehabilitate his image.

    http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2009/02/chris-brown-any.html

Maybe if he acts contrite for a few months and does a few high-profile community service projects, he’ll get his contracts back and everything will be fine. Holy cow, people.

  12. 12 jenn Feb 13th, 2009 at 6:13 pm

Scott F. you got it exactly right. After these Image awards the NAACP will look foolish on top of being irrelevant. Sad. Sad. Sad.

    dicksmack = Beige win.

Chris Brown? You mean Chris Black and Blue! Or is it too early? Am I too early?

  15. 15 Katy Feb 13th, 2009 at 6:58 pm

He’s a bastard, so as long as we are making fun of HIM I don’t think it’s too early.

This really is infuriating. He seems to think that if a woman is maybe a pain or doesn’t treat him well (I don’t know if that’s the case or not here, just saying) then he can hit her and claim to be the victim. “Well she’s MEAN! Boo hoo! What else could I do but smack her around?”. GRRR!

  16. 16 Kai Feb 13th, 2009 at 8:51 pm

Beige, you took the words right out of my mouth. (I’ll have to remember to use ‘dicksmack’ on someone).

I agree with ‘angry army wife’, I hope his career suffers drastically; it doesn’t matter if Brown was provoked, nothing justifies domestic violence.

I’m going to be sick if that assclown tries to play the ’sad childhood made me do it’ or ‘it was self defense’ crap.

  17. 17 Kaylee Feb 13th, 2009 at 8:58 pm

Do you jerks even know what you’re talking about?! What happen with RiRi was like a few days ago. The nominations for the NAACP was announced last month. You know when everybody thought Chris Brown was a nice kid. The members didn’t hear Chris beat RiRi up and said… Wow lets honour him! He kicks butt and that deserves an award! Some of u need to get over your self.

  18. 18 Simon Scowl Feb 13th, 2009 at 10:27 pm

Some of u need to get over your self.

Thank u for that incisive analysis.

…I’m gonna go pop some popcorn and let everyone else take this one.

    GO!

  22. 22 Grump Curmugeon Feb 14th, 2009 at 3:48 am

@Kaylee: That’s the problem with today’s youth. They think everything runs on Internet Time, where nominations are made 5 minutes before the awards ceremnoy, which last 10 minutes before the awards are presented. Everything is instant, and a “lag” of more than 5ms is atrocious.

I’ll have you kids know, in my day, we had to walk three miles through thick snow, up hill both ways, just to get a dial-up connection. And the news shows would be *hours* behind the times.

And let’s not even talk about trying to dl pr0n over a dial-up. You kids don’t know how good yuou have it. (Shuffles off to catch re-runs of Matlock.)

  23. 23 Holydust Feb 14th, 2009 at 6:09 am

Damn you, MySpace, for teaching preppy idiots how to use the internet.

  24. 24 Kristine Feb 14th, 2009 at 9:59 am

In the Age of Obama, I would have thought we didn’t need the NAACP awards anymore… let’s go start the NAAWP awards instead.

The whole thing is a sticky spot. He hasn’t actually be found guilty yet (even though we all know he did it) so as much as I wish they’d go “due to other circumstances, so and so gets it” he’s technically still innocent. But, it’s fitting that a guy like him would get an award like that, so go for it.

  25. 25 Crow Jane Feb 14th, 2009 at 12:46 pm

“Wow lets honour him! He kicks butt and that deserves an award! Some of u need to get over your self.”

He kicks butt, huh? He also splits lip, and busts jaw.

. . . Sorry, all I could come up with.

  26. 26 Kaylee Feb 14th, 2009 at 12:52 pm

I thought this site was about truth telling?! What I said was the truth. If some of you can’t handle someone going agaisnt the “groupthink” on this topic. Then you’re no better than the idiots you check on a daliy basis.

  28. 28 Josie Feb 14th, 2009 at 2:33 pm

There was plenty of time for someone to make the call to distance the awards from his actions. I would frankly think that would be high priority of any group working for a social cause; more so than say something like the AMPAS or something. When so much of the country views you as out of touch, wouldn’t it be a good call to make certain something with such national awareness as the Chris Brown case DIDN’T reflect poorly on your awards?

It was a couple days ago, which in this wacky age is more than enough time for action. Kelloggs nailed Michael Phelps in half that time for the stupid pot thing. There was time to repeal the nomination.

  29. 29 Katy Feb 14th, 2009 at 7:01 pm

Actually Kaylee, what you did what tell the truth in an immature manner while calling us all names. You could have said “Actually, Chris Brown was nominated for this award a month before this incident occured”. Then you would have been simply informing us. Instead, you called us jerks (we’re jerks for not wanting a woman-beater to win an award?) and you further diminished your point by sounding unintelligent, using “u” instead of “you”, which is really unnecessary and a bit lazy.

    And that’s the truth.

  30. 30 Katy Feb 14th, 2009 at 7:04 pm

Also, to say he kicks butt knowing what he has done is extremely myopic on your part, Kaylee. You like his music, therefor even though you know he beat his girlfriend you are going to say what a great guy he is. Did you really think that would go unnoticed on this forum?

  31. 31 Scott F. Feb 14th, 2009 at 7:05 pm

“I thought this site was about truth telling?!”

You want the truth? You REALLY want the truth?

The truth is that if criminal actions exempted you from an NAACP award, the show would be about 10 minutes long.

There – it needed to be said, and I said it.

  32. 32 Christina X Feb 14th, 2009 at 8:33 pm

Yeah, Chris Brown is an AMAZING representative of the black community! *eyeroll*

Why don’t they just change the name of the NAACP to “The Rich Black People Awards” since that’s clearly what it has been rendered into.

I’m sure that Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, all of the strong black leaders of yesterday are spinning in their f*cking graves right now at the very FACT IN ITSELF that this punk is being rewarded for domestic abuse.

To those of you trying to justify Chris Brown’s actions with “You don’t know what REALLY happened!”, I think the marks left on Rihanna’s body spoke for themselves. I think that the lack of bruises appearing on Chris Brown’s body reveals that he’s NOT the victim in the situation.

If Rihanna was “clingy and insecure”, Chris Brown had the opportunity to leave before it got out of hand instead of letting the situation escalate into domestic battery…clearly she wasn’t that much of a threat to him that he was afraid to strike her several times. So really, what’s his excuse?

And something tells me that there’s more to the story as to why Rihanna was oh so controlling and jealous as contrived…he’s a lousy person, a lousy man, and a weak representative of the black community. Also, can someone show me REAL EVIDENCE that Rihanna has herpes?

  33. 33 john aka schwein Feb 14th, 2009 at 11:49 pm

The truth hurts, and Scott’s comment was dead-on.

  35. 35 letinstar Feb 15th, 2009 at 12:37 am

let me say first of all that i despise men who beat up on women…now let me say this…jsoh brolin beat his wife diane lane a few years ago and the cops were called….now he’s an accomplished actor and nominated for an oscar…are we just as outraged about that?

  36. 36 Pinandpuller Feb 15th, 2009 at 1:20 am

I volunteer to check her out…

  37. 37 Beige Feb 15th, 2009 at 12:56 pm

First of all, thanks, but I didn’t originate the “dicksmack” epithet.

Secondly: Kaylee, suck it. You seriously need to learn how to form a complete and articulate sentence before you insult anyone else’s intelligence.

Thirdly, Josie, ScottF and Katy are absolutely, positively right. They are SO right, in fact, they’re almost left.

Letinstar, I missed the Brolin thing. Don’t know if I was busy having a kid at the time or what, but EWW, and it definitely deserves the same degree of outrage.

  38. 38 angry army wife Feb 15th, 2009 at 3:19 pm

awwww, so touching. His dad is saying that Chris is now so remorseful over what happened. He is at home reflective and concerned over what happened. Yep, I would be too since now I am losing money. It is amazing how remorseful one can get when sponsors start pulling your money away from you. He says that we all trip and that Chris is really worried about Rihanna. Isn’t this how most of the abusive people are? Remorseful, saying they have changed and then they hit again?

  39. 39 Beige Feb 15th, 2009 at 9:35 pm

Yeah, just last week I had axed about nineteen people after I knocked over this convenience store (as a result of an EasyBake trauma when I was eight) and once it got on the police scanner, I started feeling really bad. It’s gonna be, like, a week or two before I do THAT again. ‘Cause I feel so bad, you know.

  40. 40 Nati Feb 16th, 2009 at 6:10 am

“He kicks butt and that deserves an award!”

And there is 1 waiting for him in jail! The only difference between this an NCAAP award is that he will be presented with it daily (several times a days if he’s lucky) and he actually earned it

  41. 41 jlynn Feb 16th, 2009 at 9:47 am

So what, he shouldn’t get the award he was probably nominated for months ago because of a personal incident with his girlfriend that happened last week?
Awards, whether it’s an NAACP, a Grammy, or an Emmy, have nothing to do with an artists behavior. It has to do with thier career. Chris Brown, up until now, has been insanely popular and has had a successful career at a very young age.
Remember when Natalie Cole said Amy Winehouse shouldn’t have won her Grammys because of her drug and alchohol abuse?
He probably won’t even win now, not because he doesn’t deserve it, but because of how uncomfortable it will be for the people who make the final decision as to who gets the award to give it to someone who is so publicly despised right now. The same person they thought worthy of the award when he was nominated.

  42. 42 MC Mom Feb 16th, 2009 at 12:01 pm

Call me crazy, jlynn, but you’d think that something called an “NAACP Image Award” would have something to do with an artist’s behavior. People supposedly win Grammys for the quality of their musical performance. I don’t think you can lump those two into the same category.

  43. 43 Crow Jane Feb 16th, 2009 at 1:59 pm

Oh, it was a “personal incident”. I thought he beat the sh*t out of her.

  44. 44 Katy Feb 16th, 2009 at 4:21 pm

MC Mom – That’s exactly it! It’s an “image award”, not a Grammy or an Oscar. Yes, people win huge awards even when they do things like abuse drugs or assault people, and that is a decent point, but as stated by MC those awards are to judge a person’s performance in that field. Rotten people sometimes get praise, and that can be hard to swallow, but if someone excels in their field that is what those awards are meant to acknowledge. To those of you that are defending Brown’s right to this award, remember that it is supposed to be an award for his image, and his image is pretty terrible right now. Maybe he was nominated before all this happened (sorry, no, not happened – before he did what he did) but get realistic.

  45. 45 jlynn Feb 16th, 2009 at 6:20 pm

The award is for Outstanding Artist of the Year, not for his image. Sounds like that has something to do with his music career.

  46. 46 Anni Feb 17th, 2009 at 3:44 am

You know, Kaylee’s post doesn’t surprise me one bit. When it was mentioned on the radio during my forty five minute commute home, the radio decided it would be relevant to ask other women to call in and offer insightful comments and advice to women about what to do with abuse in their past. I cannot count the number of times women called in defense of Brown, said that she probably deserved it because God knows she obviously did something to “make him do it” (that’s always been my favorite excuse, YOU made me do it), and played down the severity of her physical injuries to make them seem not that bad.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been that disgusted with people and other women. You’re no better, Kaylee. Have you ever been abused, love? Probably not. I didn’t come away feeling that there was anything I could do to deserve having the crap beat out of me. (If you have, however, you clearly need some counseling to undo whatever damage was done psychologically.) If Rihanna was really that much of a bitch, you know what he could’ve done instead that would’ve been much more efficient? He could have dumped her. What a concept, I know, to break it off with people you’re not compatible with, but I hear it works . . .

Also, he’s a talentless hack and doesn’t deserve any awards for anything anyway.

  47. 47 Ferd Feb 17th, 2009 at 12:33 pm

@Scott F. – Preach it, brother! That was an awesome post.

@Letinstar – You’re right. Why didn’t the media push the Brolin/Lane thing? Josh Brolin is a talentless left-wing hack who was doing things the media liked (W. The Movie, Milk) so they left him alone in an effort to support these two failed movie attempts. And before you respond again with, “but he got an Oscar nomination! That proves he’s awesome!”, check yourself. Oscar is political, plain and simple. It also goes (mainly) to crap nobody in the real world sees, or wants to see.

Blame the media for not covering Josh Brolin’s brave beat-down of Diane Lane. Too bad he didn’t try this on a guy. We’d be discussing Josh Brolin’s ass-kicking, and how he and his daddy are a couple of pansies.

  48. 48 Nati Feb 19th, 2009 at 4:51 pm

in response to josh brolin comments: the man who has barbra streisand for a stepmom cannot be held accountable for his actions. just put him in 1 of those nice quiet places where nurses are known to be generous with detomidine. i’m even willing to cough up my taxpayer money to keep him locked up indefinitely in a gov’t facility if stepmommy dearest doesn’t shell out the $$$ for a private clinic

  49. 49 Beige Feb 19th, 2009 at 5:35 pm

@Nati: Anyone who can be within slapping distance of Babs, and NOT knock her head off, has enough control going on to keep his mitts off Diane Lane. I’m just sayin’.

  50. 50 Nati Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:39 pm

Beige, I wouldn’t attribute the never attempted (well, as far as we know) knockin’ of barbra’s head off to josh’s self-control. I think he was just afraid. Cause she’s scary, u know…even seeing her onscreen gives me the chills. I can’t imagine what it might be like to be face to face with her…on a daily basis. and to have her as a family member…hell, i’d be sitting on the door step of the nearest nuthouse begging to be commited. if i were josh brolin. but i’m not. thank god. what an asshole…he was basically playing himself in planet terror.
