Look, Ma! We’re in the web-cyclo-wiki-pedia-thingy!

It’s official. We’ve arrived.

Thanks to “humble and loyal commenting contributors” Kristine and Habanada (they paid me to call them that…), your favorite hypocrite-hunters now have an entry on Wikipedia. Any Wiki editors in the crowd, feel free to do what you do. My co-bloggers and I are keeping our hands off of it.

deceiverwiki

I don’t suppose being listed in the Internet’s quasi-official repository of useless trivia will really make our little corner of snarkdom any more important than it already is. But at least now I can tell my mom that my work is featured alongside the good deeds of Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama.

… and to think that my high-school guidance counselor said I’d never amount to anything.

We hereby commit our Wiki to the masses. Have fun bickering over the details — isn’t that what Wikipedia is all about? And don’t forget to ask us if you need any arguments settled. We just might give you a straight answer. Sometimes.

  2. 2 angry army wife Feb 25th, 2009 at 11:47 am

To quote some narly dudes, “we’re not worthy!”

    Great page guys!

  3. 3 Chronic Malanga Feb 25th, 2009 at 11:48 am

    Good job, Kristine and Habanada!

My favorite little place on the web has officially arrived. :)

  4. 4 Beige Feb 25th, 2009 at 12:09 pm

Whoa. Can Simon Scowl, Holly Won’t and Oversneer action figures (New! With PETA-mooning Action and Kung-Fu Grip!) be far behind? Because I want the whole set.

  5. 5 Les Paul Feb 25th, 2009 at 12:33 pm

The Deceiver Halloween Clothing line is being designed as we speak, so I hear.

  6. 6 angry army wife Feb 25th, 2009 at 12:58 pm

I hear there is a waiting list for Al Gore’s mask

  7. 7 bigmama Feb 25th, 2009 at 12:59 pm

    Congrats, guys.

  8. 8 Toubrouk Feb 25th, 2009 at 2:22 pm

    Oh, Sweet little Wiki page!

    Congrats to all!

  9. 9 Queen Bee Feb 25th, 2009 at 2:40 pm

Wow. It’s like you guys exist now.

  10. 10 Fortunate Son Feb 25th, 2009 at 2:43 pm

Not sure this is actually a good thing for you.

Your Wikipedia entry can rapidly pre-empt your website on Google, and suddenly you loose all control of the #1 search engine return for your own product.

  11. 11 Victoria Feb 25th, 2009 at 3:54 pm

Deciever Halloween costumes! Oh man I so want to be Sara Palin for Halloween this year! Congratulations on Wikipeidia! I love this site.

  12. 12 Meg 2.0 Feb 25th, 2009 at 3:55 pm

    Hurray! Love you guys!

  13. 13 Pastafarian Feb 25th, 2009 at 3:56 pm

    Right on!

You’re encouraging us to edit it? Cuz man I got some stuff to add.

  14. 14 Kristine Feb 25th, 2009 at 4:26 pm

Someone please take up Beige’s action figure idea ;) I’d get my little Chinese kids on it, but they’re tied up doing… other things.

  15. 15 The Oversneer Feb 25th, 2009 at 4:30 pm

You know, the problem with action figures is that you’ll all figure out what we look like in real life. And then our day jobs will know what we’re up to. That can only spell trouble.

  16. 16 Jannah Feb 25th, 2009 at 4:52 pm

    Congrats! :-)

  17. 17 Chronic Malanga Feb 25th, 2009 at 7:32 pm

Oversneer, being the superheroes and fighters for truth, justice, and all that, you could just have masks and tights painted on each action figure. No one needs to know your true identities. ;)

  18. 18 Kristine Feb 25th, 2009 at 8:35 pm

I’m sure we can do some sort of artisitic interpretation… or there’s always witness protection.

  19. 19 Habanada Feb 25th, 2009 at 8:40 pm

Dude, this is the most amazing Wikipedia page of all-freaking-time! . . . I can so say that!!

  20. 20 Nati Feb 25th, 2009 at 9:19 pm

congratulations, deceiver. <3 and good job, Kristine and Habanada. Nice entry…un-wikipedia-shly thorough.

  21. 21 katie Feb 26th, 2009 at 2:12 am

  22. 22 winewife Feb 26th, 2009 at 10:30 am

Congrats guys! I’ll raise a glass of wine in your honor…it must be 5pm somewhere.

  23. 23 Habanada Feb 26th, 2009 at 10:43 am

This is kind of a funny question, but could I get somebody in here who has a Wikipedia account to go in and erase the tag that says we don’t have enough outside sources? I believe it will be a faux pas for either of us to erase it ourselves, but my research shows me that we have our article better-sourced than many of them :P

  24. 24 D---- Feb 26th, 2009 at 10:48 am

Are Pasta, Fortunate Son, J-Rod and Queen Bee mentioned?

  25. 25 Jrod Feb 26th, 2009 at 11:37 am

I am just waiting for the first edit to say “this is a right wing blog”…it will happen, keep you eyes open, lol.

  26. 26 Pastafarian Feb 26th, 2009 at 12:25 pm

The Alexa ranking shows 135,000 and some change. They should break that down to porn, and non-porn sites. For real. Or do they already? Or should I just quit boosting those other guy’s rankings? Just try and stop me. If I won’t listen to my mother what chance do you have?

  27. 27 k Feb 26th, 2009 at 10:03 pm

Yay! My most favoritest website besides mine has a Wiki!

  28. 28 Nati Feb 26th, 2009 at 11:15 pm

hope some meticulous, minor detail obsessed c doesn’t put that tag back in. I also hope I did it right – haven’t used my wiki accnt in yrs…ever since they didn’t let my friend and I edit an article about an acquaintance of his (at that acquaintance’s request btw!). 2 yrs later I’m still buttsore. >.<

  29. 29 Beige Feb 27th, 2009 at 10:07 am

Yeah, I vote for masks and costumes. Provided there’s no nipplage or codpieces involved, because yiiiick.

In other news: “buttsore”? Yoicks, Nati. Bless your heart.

  30. 30 Nati Feb 27th, 2009 at 3:56 pm

lol…well, not like literally physically buttsore…buttsore is more like a figure of speech here…like, emotionally buttsore…as in my feelings were hurt…and stuff

  31. 31 Beige Feb 27th, 2009 at 4:25 pm

Heh. That’s what I get for being overly literal-minded.

  32. 32 becky Mar 2nd, 2009 at 3:34 am

Habanada– Anyone can edit a wikipedia page, you don’t need an account, you don’t even need to write your name — it can be completely anonymous (though your IP address does get recorded). Just click “edit this page.”

Oh yeah, and wikipedia isn’t a site for useless trivia, unless you consider a regular encyclopedia just “useless trivia” as well. I find wikipedia to be one of the most useful sources when I want to find out more about almost any subject. Usually the articles are more detailed and thorough than the regular encylopedia sites, actually.

Anyway, yeah, feel free to edit your own page if you want. No one will ever know, unless you write something really offensive and piss off the wikipedia moderators and they take it upon themselves to check up on your IP address!

  33. 33 becky Mar 2nd, 2009 at 3:46 am

Oh yeah, one more thing Habanada — that thing at the top that says “This article needs references that appear in reliable third-party publications” didn’t refer to your SITE needing references, it only referred to the wikipedia standard of having each article refer back to whatever references the article is based on. I see that banner is gone now (it’s only in your screencap) so maybe someone added some more references?

I don’t see anywhere in the article (or in the screencap) where anyone referred to your site not having enough sources, so I’m assuming you were talking about that banner. Any wikipedia article that someone writes without including links to where they got their information, or bibliographic information about book or newspaper sources, will have that banner. So don’t take it personally, just add some sources to the article!
