A Frank Economic Moment

barney_frankAnother one for the Sometimes All You Need to Do Is Let Them Talk file. Here’s Representative Barney Frank (D., Mass.) during the House Financial Services Committee hearings in Sept. 2003, talking about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I do not envy whoever had to translate his sputterings into standard English:

I worry, frankly, that there’s a tension here. The more people, in my judgment, exaggerate a threat of safety and soundness, the more people conjure up the possibility of serious financial losses to the Treasury, which I do not see. I think we see entities that are fundamentally sound financially and withstand some of the disaster scenarios…

I believe there has been more alarm raised about potential unsafety and unsoundness than, in fact, exists.

Okay. No problem!

Oh, wait. Problem. March 5, 2009:

U.S. House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank said he wants to see people prosecuted for wrongdoing related to the financial crisis as lawmakers overhaul regulation of Wall Street.

Frank will call on attorneys general, bank regulators and officials from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to outline plans for prosecuting and recovering funds from those responsible for the crisis, he said today at a news conference in Washington.

“What are your plans to prosecute those people whose irresponsible and, in some cases, criminal actions helped bring about this crisis?” said Frank, a Massachusetts Democrat.

Well, Barn, you could always turn yourself in.

‘recover’ funds?! This money belonged to the government and now they must recover it? This man is a hard core anti-capitalist. He panders to and stokes the wealth envy in this country. Like being successful is somehow the same is being lucky. Nothing to do with making good choices about education and having a good work ethic.

Frank should have been drummed out of office 15 years ago. His list of crimals misgivings is long and if he wasn’t a gay politician then he would have been in jail years ago. Ask him about his male lover he had living in his DC apatment, who was running a male prositiution service as well as dealing drugs. But of course Barney had no knowledge of this and the Dems at the time under Clinton did nothing about it nor was he charged when they busted the guy.

I normally don’t watch Bill Oreilly but this time he was right to get up in Barneys face.

“I think this is a case where Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are fundamentally sound. They’re not in danger of going under.:

-Barney Frank on July 14, 2008.

The July 3, 1998, Reliable Source column in The Washington Post reported Frank, who is openly gay, had a relationship with Herb Moses, an executive for the now-government controlled Fannie Mae. The column revealed the two had split up at the time but also said Frank was referring to Moses as his “spouse.” Another Washington Post report said Frank called Moses his “lover” and that the two were “still friends” after the breakup.

I don’t care who Barney Frank is or isn’t screwing, whether it’s not a man or not a woman. He is an arsehead, plain and simple, and presumably would be an arsehead if he were straight.

Same here Beige. I don’t care who you are. An idiot is an idiot.

But if you call Barney an idiot, that makes YOU a Bigot and a hate mongerer! So careful you right wing lunatic!

I don’t care who Barney Frank is or isn’t screwing…

You should care. If the chairman of the finance committee is schtupping an executive at Fannie Mae, that might just be a teensy-weensie conflict of interest.

    Good point Snoop.

If they are gonna prosecute “those” people, the ones who made it possible should also be prosecuted.

Kind of like giving your friend, a known bank robber, the keys to your car so they can go rob another bank and then of course they pay you a ‘rental’ fee with the money they stole for letting them use your car.

Snoop, you make a valid point, and you’re absolutely right. My point was what JRod posted: That much like Obama, Frank claims exemption from any kind of criticism because it’s a “hate crime”, even if the criticism has nothing whatsoever to do with his orientation.

I hate the term “hate crime”, BTW. Find me a crime that ISN’T hateful. It’s like saying “hostile murder”.

His voice is so dry that listening to him talk makes you cross your eyes and blank out. It’s kinda like that muted trombone riff in those Charlie Brown cartoons when an adult spoke.
