DECEIVER MADNESS Round 1: Blago vs. Harpo

politicos-headerb3-winfrey-blagojevich

If ever a Deceiver Madness matchup was ripe for an upset, this is it. Although Oprah Winfrey scored big with the selection committee, the sheer hubris involved with Rod Blagojevich’s misdeeds could vault him into the second round. Time will tell. If nothing else, the fact that Blago considered appointing Oprah to serve in the U.S. Senate makes for a good back-story.

deceivermadnesslogo091

Blago’s qualifications? Well, he tried to sell that Senate seat, then lied about it. And then, when faced with the question of whether he discussed it with Barack Obama, he — Hey! Look over there! The Queen!

Meanwhile, have you heard? Oprah went on a diet last year. ‘Cause, you know, it would really suck to have a public figure telling women how to shape up when she can pass for a very loud dirigible.

She also went vegan. For, like, two whole weeks. No comment about the fancy leather shoes.  And did you know that she absolutely didn’t want to influence the election? Nope. Not at all.

You know the drill. Tell us which of these two Illinoisians (underline “noise”) is the bigger phony.

This poll — and today’s seven other Round 1 matchups — will be open for 24 hours. Updated Brackets will be posted tomorrow.

Deceiver Madness '09 Round 1 (Politicos bracket): Pick the bigger hypocrite

  • Oprah Winfrey (5) (62%)
  • Rod Blagojevich (12) (38%)

Economies of scale on this one.

Oprah reaches a ton more people DAILY and will still be spouting hypocrisy tomorrow. Blagojevich is pretty much one-&-done.

  2. 2 Habanada Mar 10th, 2009 at 10:14 am

I call Oprah because of her behavior during and after the election. It was downright ridiculous if not disturbing, the amount of flip-flopping that woman does. I’d think she’d have lost 30 pounds just from that.

  3. 3 Toubrouk Mar 10th, 2009 at 10:26 am

I go with Oprah just for the sheer size of her following. She’s a huge diva who acts like a New-Age priestess. She’s way more dangerous that Mr. Wannabe Bigshot.

  4. 4 MrsCman Mar 10th, 2009 at 10:30 am

I agree with the comments so far – Oprah brings her audience to a state of rapture that is frightening.

  5. 5 Rocco Lore Mar 10th, 2009 at 10:35 am

    Oprah’s hypocritical. Blago’s just corrupt.

  6. 6 Dan Mar 10th, 2009 at 10:39 am

While his one act of major hypocrisy was much larger than most people would dare to attempt, she has a much more consistent record of ‘do as I say, not as I do… no really, buy these books! Dr. Phil is a respectable person! I like Tom Cruise! Jooohn Travooolllltaaaaaaaa!!!!’

  7. 7 Carlo Mar 10th, 2009 at 10:46 am

What everyone else said. Blago’s a corrupt Chicago politician? Say it ain’t so! At least we’ll never elect someone from dirty Chicago politics to national office. . .

  8. 8 Emma Mar 10th, 2009 at 10:50 am

Had it been against most other people, Blago would have had my vote on this one, but he’ll fall off the radar soon enough.

  9. 9 Seth Mar 10th, 2009 at 10:56 am

There is no woman more loved or more fake.

  10. 10 Jill Mar 10th, 2009 at 11:04 am

The 800 pound gorilla. And no, I’m not being racist – just accurate.

  11. 11 Swede0319 Mar 10th, 2009 at 11:10 am

    What Jill said

  12. 12 angry army wife Mar 10th, 2009 at 11:14 am

Oprah. Won’t use her show as a platform for politics but will use her name to pay for the Messiah’s 30 minute show and host fundraising parties for him. Plus, she makes tons of money off of the little people

  13. 13 Christine Mar 10th, 2009 at 11:23 am

Oprah all the way. Blago is neither as persistent nor as omni-present as she is.

  14. 14 Pastafarian Mar 10th, 2009 at 11:25 am

I voted for Opie because I love that show. What?… Who?…Damn.

  15. 15 Chronic Malanga Mar 10th, 2009 at 11:32 am

Oprah, hands down. Again, I expect hypocrisy from politicians, not to mention corruption. Oprah, for all the reasons others have listed, and her smug and annoying attitude.

  16. 16 Lisa Mar 10th, 2009 at 11:35 am

Oprah…because I would like to see Big O take on Little O (otherwise known as the chosen one.)

  17. 17 Tengu Mar 10th, 2009 at 11:40 am

Oprah. She just assaults the senses on such a daily basis and has so much reach to the general public.

  18. 18 D---- Mar 10th, 2009 at 11:43 am

This one definitely goes to Oprah. Blago is just a dick but thats no surprise.

  19. 19 Marc Mar 10th, 2009 at 11:47 am

This isn’t even fair….Blogo is just a politician acting like a politician…and before he got caught (allegedly, of course…HAHAHAHAHAHA…sorry, I tried not to laugh), he was just being a hypocrite to his constituents. Oprah come up with new ways to be a hypocrite daily, and beams it out to reach millions of victims to see. The big O, (and I do mean BIG), wins in a landslide…covered in hot fudge…

  20. 20 jenn Mar 10th, 2009 at 11:54 am

The BIG O gets my vote

  21. 21 thatgengirl Mar 10th, 2009 at 12:08 pm

Oprah. Blago was deceitful, but not exactly a hypocrite.

  22. 22 X Mar 10th, 2009 at 12:14 pm

    O. It honestly hurts my soul that so many people follow her drivel

  23. 23 Minnow Mar 10th, 2009 at 12:41 pm

Orca. Because no one waits 6 years for tickets to the Blago Show.

  24. 24 Hjay Mar 10th, 2009 at 1:15 pm

Oprah was my choice. Blago consistently has nice hair.

  25. 25 Kristine Mar 10th, 2009 at 1:21 pm

Oprah might just be the personification of hypocrisy…. or maybe that’s Gore.

  26. 26 California Dave Mar 10th, 2009 at 1:21 pm

Oprah. I think Blago has brain damage, because he’s just been way way too stupid about all this. Oprah, on the other hand, does things in a much more deliberate way – she’s DELIBERATELY like this.

  27. 27 Crow Jane Mar 10th, 2009 at 1:27 pm

Oprah, because Blago is just stupid, and possibly crazy.

  28. 28 Underestimated Mar 10th, 2009 at 1:28 pm

    Oprah

  29. 29 Ani Mar 10th, 2009 at 1:29 pm

    Blago… just because I can’t stand his um…toupee/hair/roadkill headcovering

  30. 30 StrawberryGirl Mar 10th, 2009 at 1:36 pm

I almost admire Blago’s pure chutzpah. Oprah on the other hand…

  31. 31 Beige Mar 10th, 2009 at 1:38 pm

Oprah was being hypocritical and self-worshiping back when Blago was still beating up schoolkids for their lunch money. So to speak.

  32. 32 Rocko Mar 10th, 2009 at 1:57 pm

How could you pick Oprah over Blago? The guy’s not just a hypocrite, he’s unapologetic about it and if that’s not enough, he’ll try to defend it and if that doesn’t work he’ll say he’s being set up. The guy is unbelievable. He deserves to win this round so he can lose in the next.

Oprah, I could care less, so would other people if they stopped watching her show and buying her magazine.

  33. 33 kbug61 Mar 10th, 2009 at 2:07 pm

One really has to admire the sheer size of Blago’s cojones, but I voted for him anyway. At least Oprah has good intentions.

  34. 34 Anna Mar 10th, 2009 at 2:38 pm

I second Rocco Lore – well said.

  35. 35 Ducky Mar 10th, 2009 at 3:04 pm

    Blagooo.

  36. 36 PJ Mar 10th, 2009 at 3:16 pm

    Mr. Blagoo, who else?

  37. 37 Saro Mar 10th, 2009 at 3:30 pm

Oprah, because the sway she seems to hold over the unwashed masses terrifies me. And because she’s ruining all of my favorite books by putting her Mark of the Beast on them. I’m sorry, but Molly McHousewife is not going to get anything out of Anna Karenina.

  38. 38 Fortunate Son Mar 10th, 2009 at 4:12 pm

Blago’s just another corrupt Illinois politician.

Like Obama, Oprah is another admitted crack cocaine user who thinks they think have the chops to change the world just by writing checks.

  39. 39 Matt Mar 10th, 2009 at 4:12 pm

Blago’s the criminal of the two, so I went with him.

  40. 40 Nati Mar 10th, 2009 at 5:06 pm

oh this is a tough 1. Well, I don’t think that an annoying hypocritical TV personality can have the same impact as (yet another) corrupt politician, so I voted for Blago.

  41. 41 k80 Mar 10th, 2009 at 5:10 pm

Blago. Oprah’s hold over her audience is highly over-rated, if she does something stupid she’ll go down the tubes just like any other celebrity. Blago actually came close to doing serious damage to the whole country, and seems to have no qualms about it.

  42. 42 Koka Mar 10th, 2009 at 5:17 pm

    Gotta go with the O.

She believes in her own “O” religion……..and sadly the country is full of women who buy into that shinola too.

  43. 43 Troy Mar 10th, 2009 at 5:40 pm

    oprah forever!

  44. 44 k Mar 10th, 2009 at 5:53 pm

Opree, as my mamaw used to call her. I dare Blago to get a nation of sheeple to read stupid books, buy stupid items, read a stupid magazine, or watch a stupid show, simply because he said to do it.

  45. 45 Nick Mar 10th, 2009 at 6:31 pm

Oprah. It was the politics that did it for me. Blagovich may be corrupt but that is nothing new.

  46. 46 G Mar 10th, 2009 at 8:12 pm

    Blago. I can’t believe O is winning.

  47. 47 That person Mar 10th, 2009 at 9:07 pm

I went with Oprah, because you said, “Who’s the Bigger phony?” Haha, get it? BIGGER?

Oh, and Saro–Molly McHousewife may not “get as much out of” books as you, but it sure helps that you put down women who elect to live their lives as they wish, including as homemakers. Way to be pretentious as you read a gossip blog…

  48. 48 milk 'em Mar 10th, 2009 at 10:21 pm

    Blago-

    He needs this award.

    It’s a valuable f’in thing you know

  49. 49 heather Mar 10th, 2009 at 10:53 pm

Went with Oprah on this one. It was a close call for me, but her “not endorsing” Obama pushed me over the edge…

  50. 50 randomstalker Mar 11th, 2009 at 12:25 am

I vote for Oprah. Just look at her in that picture. She just won’t shut up. At least the other guy doesn’t seem to be craving too much attention, and he’ll be out of the news soon enough.

  51. 51 RaraAvis Mar 11th, 2009 at 1:03 am

Gotta buck the bracket on this one. Ol’ Rod put on an impressive display and deserves recognition. Oprah is like Duke – coasting along on past performance. Send her home.

  52. 52 luscious_t Mar 11th, 2009 at 9:14 am

This was a really tough choice!

Blago’s crimes are, well… just that – crimes – which goes far past simply being a Deceiver, Plus, Oprah rules the world – and that must stop! Score another vote for Harpo~

  53. 53 Ramfis Mar 21st, 2009 at 9:52 am

‘Cause, you know, it would really suck to have a public figure telling women how to shape up when she can pass for a very loud dirigible.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! I really did laugh out loud… Oprah is a twatwaffle.

  54. 54 Beige Mar 21st, 2009 at 12:02 pm

Apparently I read The Onion way too much, because my vote for her was highly influenced by their description of her as a “chocolate-covered bulldozer”. And that makes me giggle like an inpatient.
