DECEIVER MADNESS Round 1: Olympic Cheat vs. Tax Cheat

politicos-headerc4-beijing-geithner

These middle-of-the bracket battles are the most fun, I think. Who could have guessed that a not-too-famous American economist-turned-politician would wind up squaring off against a communist country’s highest athletic authority? (Other than the Ping-Pong Congress, of course…)

This is F-U-N fun! … OK, not really. But vote anyway.

deceivermadnesslogo091

The 2008 Beijing Olympics had it all: Fake IDs, fake fireworks, fake concern for the environment. “Made in China” used to mean something, man. Personally, I’m looking forward to the winter Olympics in Canada next year, ’cause you just know they won’t screw it up.

And then there’s the epic tale that is Timothy Geithner, the market frightener. He didn’t pay his taxes for years, and now he’s in charge of America’s tax-collection service. This actually happened.

Can you believe one of these two opponents will be Al Gore’s next victim worthy competitor? Ah, the privileges of being the top seed…

This poll — and today’s seven other Round 1 matchups — will be open for 24 hours. Updated Brackets will be posted tomorrow.

Deceiver Madness '09 Round 1 (Politicos bracket): Pick the bigger hypocrite

  • The 2008 Beijing Olympic Committee (9) (53%)
  • Timothy Geithner (8) (47%)

I hate Commie scum. Guess who got my vote?

Besides, you expect people like Timothy to do stuff like that.

  2. 2 Toubrouk Mar 11th, 2009 at 9:28 am

I vote for the Beijing Olympics because I have the Chinese Communist Party.

Yup, I got a bias the size of Mount Rushmore about this.

  3. 3 luscious_t Mar 11th, 2009 at 9:36 am

I’d expect no less from China. I’d like to at least pretend on the surface that we’re a little better here. TimTim got my vote — but what a tough bracket!

  4. 4 MrsCman Mar 11th, 2009 at 9:50 am

Tim gets my vote. That’s how immune our country is to BS like this. We just assume that there is no available candidate who HASN’T cheated on their taxes.

  5. 5 Rocco Lore Mar 11th, 2009 at 10:06 am

Geithner: The guy who runs the Treasury, but can’t pay his taxes.

  6. 6 Nivek Mar 11th, 2009 at 10:08 am

    Tiny Tim for the win.

I expect total lies coming from the Chinese government. I think most people do. Geithner is a real deceiver and the fact that this tax-cheat has the job that he’s in…..that’s a true testament to his (and the government’s) deceiver-y.

  7. 7 Ducky Mar 11th, 2009 at 10:12 am

I voted for Timothy, you expect China to pull this crap.

  8. 8 D---- Mar 11th, 2009 at 10:34 am

Good old Tim has my vote, cause you can’t just make this shit up.

  9. 9 PJ Mar 11th, 2009 at 10:37 am

China, cos the whole thing was fake. Even Phelp’s bong.

  10. 10 Elle Mar 11th, 2009 at 10:55 am

    Beijing.

    But I’ll admit I flipped a coin

  11. 11 Saro Mar 11th, 2009 at 11:09 am

Beijing, the sheer amount of deceit was impressive.

  12. 12 Swede0319 Mar 11th, 2009 at 11:11 am

Timmy because he looks like he got his lunch money stolen every day while in school. That and it looks like he has a perma-wedgie.

  13. 13 Minnow Mar 11th, 2009 at 11:22 am

    Tim.

And Tim? We’re still waiting on that overdue Toxic Asset Buyout Program term paper…

  14. 14 Carlo Mar 11th, 2009 at 11:51 am

Commies are vermin, but there’s something surreal about Timmy the Tax Cheat’s signature appearing on my money soon.

  15. 15 Habanada Mar 11th, 2009 at 11:52 am

It was a tough call and took forever to decide–but I figured, the Olympics are over, but Geithner’s still with us.

  16. 16 Queen Bee Mar 11th, 2009 at 12:17 pm

China just because they screwed over that adorable girl who sang at opening ceremonies, deeming her not cute enough.

  17. 17 angry army wife Mar 11th, 2009 at 12:56 pm

China is expected to cheat so I was not surprised about the lip synching children and non-firework display. However, I expect better of those who are leading our country which is why Tim has my vote along with anyone else serving the Messiah.

  18. 18 California Dave Mar 11th, 2009 at 1:00 pm

    Timmah!

  19. 19 bigmama Mar 11th, 2009 at 1:03 pm

Tim because he’s part of the Obama crew.

  20. 20 Anna Mar 11th, 2009 at 1:14 pm

That one hurt – but had to go with Geithner, after all, he still has power – the Olympics were corrupted, but at least they’re said and done, Tim’s still around. I’m still waiting for an economic plan… waiting… waiting…

  21. 21 jenn Mar 11th, 2009 at 1:44 pm

Tim – tax cheat going after tax cheats – hypocritical

  22. 22 Eve Mar 11th, 2009 at 2:05 pm

The Olympics made me sick–not just the ridiculously lousy job China did at faking things, but the way the rest of the world 1) went there at all, considering their supposed stance on Darfur and other human rights atrocities, and 2) played along with the BS. Seriously, if the United States pulled 1/10 of those stunts, there would be world outcry. But China? Oh, business as usual.

  23. 23 StrawberryGirl Mar 11th, 2009 at 2:06 pm

Nothing is more hypocritical than a tax collector in chief who is himself a tax cheat. It’s like appointing Osama Bin Laden chief of Homeland Security.

  24. 24 Nick Mar 11th, 2009 at 2:22 pm

Geithner all the way. Seriously, how the hell did he get in?

  25. 25 Poobah Mar 11th, 2009 at 2:41 pm

Gotta go wth the Chinese. The problem with Tim is the guy that picked him and then supported him.

  26. 26 Poobah Mar 11th, 2009 at 2:52 pm

Gotta go wth the Chinese. The problem with Tim is the guy that picked him and then supported him.
Oops, should have added great post! Waiting on your next one!

  27. 27 Hjay Mar 11th, 2009 at 3:13 pm

A tax cheat ought not to be in charge of collecting taxes.

  28. 28 Marc Mar 11th, 2009 at 3:40 pm

Believe me, we haven’t seen the depths of Geitners’ hypocrisy yet! I know he is WAY worse than he has shown so far….remember whose administration he is part of. The Chinese are done with their shenanigans …

  29. 29 k Mar 11th, 2009 at 3:54 pm

The Olympic Committee, because what they do influences the lives of impressionable children, especially in countries like China, where they take winning and losing Very. Very. Seriously.

  30. 30 Beige Mar 11th, 2009 at 5:02 pm

Geithner gets my vote b/c he’s here, buggering up American lives. They could hold the Olympics in hell itself for all I care. Probably will, for that matter. I’ve lived in China; it comes pretty close.

  31. 31 Koka Mar 11th, 2009 at 5:50 pm

After all that went on before, the Chinese government is a given at cheating. It’d be more of a surprise if they DIDN’T. Geithner, on the other hand, ought to know better considering he is in politics. After people get busted time and again I have but one burning question….WHY DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THAT THEIR SECRETS WILL STAY HIDDEN??

  32. 32 Scott F. Mar 11th, 2009 at 5:59 pm

Timmy boy, like everyone else said, no one expects the commies to be trustworthy.

  33. 33 X Mar 11th, 2009 at 6:24 pm

    China is hella aweseom

  34. 34 Rocko Mar 11th, 2009 at 7:34 pm

    the Chinese, Geither gets it.

  35. 35 Christine Mar 11th, 2009 at 7:44 pm

    Beijing.

  36. 36 Kristine Mar 11th, 2009 at 8:02 pm

If I could vote for the Chinese government, I would… but for now Geitner seems more damaging. Still waiting on his money to start circulating…

  37. 37 Matt Mar 11th, 2009 at 9:14 pm

Unlike his predecessor Henry Paulsen, Geithner might actually be a competent Treasury Secretary. That’s my lame reason to go the other way on this one.

  38. 38 Reverend Rory Mar 11th, 2009 at 9:37 pm

I expect China to be full of it. Holier-than-thou Obama buddies on the other hand – well, ok, I expect them to be full of it too. However, _I_ could never get away without paying taxes, so Geithner gets my vote.

  39. 39 Scott F. Mar 11th, 2009 at 10:16 pm

“Unlike his predecessor Henry Paulsen, Geithner might actually be a competent Treasury Secretary.”

Matt – I’m still waiting for someone to explain to me why I should trust a guy who can’t figure out his OWN taxes to figure out the entire nation’s economic policy. Then again, I’m guessing you’re an Obama supporter, so I shouldn’t be surprised. You elected a Commander in Chief that has never worn so much as a Boyscout uniform. Or did liberals forget that’s what the primary job of the President is?

Anyways, in the spirit of the new administration, I’m off to hire a 600 pound personal trainer.

  40. 40 That person Mar 11th, 2009 at 10:22 pm

I went with the Chinese Communist PAR-TAY!!! WHOOO!!!

  41. 41 randomstalker Mar 11th, 2009 at 11:26 pm

I vote for Timothy Geithner. Because at least those fake Olympic fireworks were entertaining.

  42. 42 Nati Mar 12th, 2009 at 1:05 am

I voted for Geithner. Because he is still liable to do some serious damage, whereas Beijing Olympics Commitee is the thing of the past. God, I’m tired, I can’t even type…this was the last 1…I’m off to bed

  43. 43 Troy Mar 12th, 2009 at 1:53 am

China rules! But I liked her better when she was a wrestler…

  44. 44 And Atlas Shrugs Yet Again Mar 12th, 2009 at 2:12 am

Geithner. Scumbag claims he didn’t realize, wasn’t his fault anyhow (the dog did it) — when he was PAID the money to cover the taxes, and had to sign a statement each year that he KNEW it and would use the money to pay the taxes. Obama for ever appointing these creeps, and then for defending them!!

Beijing was at least trying to put on a good show, and improve their country in the eyes of the world. Still unacceptable, but there ya have it.

  45. 45 Ani Mar 12th, 2009 at 4:05 am

Geithner. Remember… while Obama may have picked him to head the IRS, which president was in charge when he wasn’t paying his income taxes… hmmm? Seems like the tax cheats got away with it when Bush was in charge- and were caught by Obama Administration’s vetting. Geithner was just taking advantage of all the breaks and loopholes Bush’s administration helped put in place, and the loopholes became nooses.

  46. 46 Matt Mar 12th, 2009 at 8:14 am

Maybe if Obama keeps nominating people like Geithner et al. we will have the deficit made up when all these great gummint-loving Libs start paying their back taxes!!!!!!

  47. 47 ganzagwenie Mar 17th, 2009 at 5:10 pm

Geithner, I guess… mostly because pandas are cute.

  48. 48 Fraig Alvant Mar 24th, 2009 at 5:09 pm

card check is nothing more than a soft tyranny
